Bought safety wire pliers. What safety wire?
 

I finally got around to getting the turbo clocked to my likeings. I pulled it back off in preperation for safty wireing the Tial turbine housing bolts.

I just ordered a pair of these, im gonna test them out to see if they are any good!

What I need input on is what which safety wire i should purchase. what diameter, grade and material? Im assuming Ill be using SS wire.

Can you photograph your housing bolts for me? Specifically the heads.

.032 stainless is the standard for most applications.

I've got the same bolts and I'll be running .032" inconel (600 alloy) wire. At the temperatures it will see, it will be stronger than regular SS, which is why inconel wire is spec'ed for aircraft engines and also the turbines on Mack diesel trucks. You can find it by googling its spec number "MS20995N32." The cheapest I found it at the time was at Island Aviation and a 1-lb spool was $30. I think they had a minimum order of $50, so I also picked up a few spools of regular stainless wire in different sizes. I probably won't have to buy safety wire again for the rest of my life.

i've been using this http://www.harborfreight.com/0041-in...coil-8895.html for suspension pieces. 6 bux. beats the 30 bux i paid for 2lb roll of .035 ss308 mig stainless wire at the welding supply store.

Those pliers work like a charm. I'm a jeweler and use them at my studio for twisting all sorts of wire when needed, up to about 12ga in annealed non-ferrous metals.

I run this stuff on mine and the bolts or wire slightly relaxed but not enough for damage, leakage, or drama aside from the internal heat sheild rattling at idle. I've since snugged and rewired, done 6-track days and it has not relaxed.

I is no dummy, I just forgot that they made it in Inconel...

Welding wire is not safety wire,It might hold a turbo bolt,but if it fails on something like a steering rack or a suspension bolt....You dont even want to think about that...Buy the real stuff.

Safety wire pliers are the universal tool. I have been known to CUT screws that were too long with them. At least I did with the ones I used when I was in the Corps...

I have no need to safety wire anything and I still find myself shopping for safety wire pliers from time to time. They hold a place in my heart next to my AR-15...

I got my pliers in the mail the other day and they are of a better quality than i thought, not to pleased with how they lock but they will get the job done!

Would any of you that have a roll of econel wire mind sending me enough to do 6 bolts? :giggle: i wont be able to buy any for a few weeks and am trying to get this sucker running before newyears! ill send some money via Paypal for whomevers generosity! :D

With out going threw the massive amounts of replies in the Epic thread... (I'm waiting to get yelled at allready) Who is everyone using to get safety wire bolts from?

I got the ones they Tial offers for their housings, I think Savington mentioned to me about possibly getting some Inconel bolts made. Im not positive on that though, my memory is a lil shot right now! lol
