Cheaper? Yeah, that's me. I'll check it out tonight.

Regarding rifles, I do not want an AK. I want a Mini-30.

I figured since I had an SKS already I should get an AK since I can share ammo. Might not be a huge concern though but seemed like it when I made the decision.

Edit - I see the Mini-30 (something I am not at all familiar with) also shoots the 7.62 x 39. I'll check it out...

Before I had my AR, I had a Mini-14. It was a very nice rifle, with many aftermarket options. The mini-30, from what I understand, is the same thing as a mini-14, just in 7.62x39. I'd say, if you want to be different and not own an SKS or an AK, the mini-30 would be an excellent choice.

+1 for building an AK. I'm going to a build party later this month and putting together a PSL (AK derivative).

Yes, I would like to do competitive pistol shooting.

I'll look into Rock Island.

I went to a shop and had a liking for a Kimber Team Match. I don't really think I need a super duper ultra match barrell though so I'm thinking about this one instead:

Rock Island can suck a dick. My homeboys in the DEA had all sorts of issues with their products.

If you build an AK variant with anything other than a MILLED receiver, you're a fool.

The Mini-30 is a great weapon but the round is pure shit. They're a lot of fun with 40 round magazines. Got dat banana clip, let Chiquita speak.

You ditched a Mini-14 to get a mediocre AR? Boy, is you crazy?

There just might be a couple million dead people who just might disagree with this statement. I could be wrong, though.

Went to Grandmas house one time and brought a piece of 1/2" stainless diamond plate on which I welded a loop of chain so I could hang it from a tree as a target. We shot it all day with all sorts of pistols and hit it tons of times with a 45 (could kind of "almost" see where they hit it). Pulled out the new SKS, loaded it up and shot at the target a few times. It looked like I couldn't hit it at all so I thought something must have been wrong with the sights. Got a little closer and could finally see what the problem was. The 7.62x39 rounds were going right through it so fast that it wasn't even making the metal ring out. The metal plate looked like I had drilled holes in it. That round might not be as bad ass as some other stuff out there but I sure wouldn't want to get hit with it.

FWIW, had a friend who works at a certain US Military vehicle manufacturing facility sneak out a couple of pieces of 1/2" armor plating for me. The next time I get a chance I'll see what happens when I shoot that.

I ditched a Stainless Steel Ranch Rifle Mini 14 that I bought used. It was NOT broken in correctly by the previous owner and the barrel was Eff'd. It had a scope on it, and at 100 yards could not get a consistent grouping if my life depended on it. It came with 3 30 round mags and 2 40's. I think the previous owner used to load all the mags and then pull the trigger as fast as he could, cause it was "the cool thing to do" in his mind.
I gave my mini-14 and a few bucks which totalled $650 towards a bull barreled DPMS which was over $1200, but the dealer had to order it. I would pay the balance when the gun arrived. The dealer jerked me off for months till I finally walked in there and said, "where's my rifle?" He made excuses all over, so I said, "give me that one that's on the wall for my credit and we're even." He did, so I got a gun for $650, that was originally was marked for $850.
I do miss the Mini-14 though. My friend has a non stainless one, and I have a feeling it's gonna get sold to me very soon.

If you are looking for a premium 1911 or 2011, consider an STI. I have an STI Executive and they are very sweet shooting guns. Google STI 2011.

Otherwise, I have a brand new in box Springfield 1911 that I won at a pistol match that I would sell.

Not that it matters to any of you gung-ho Rambo assholes, but when it comes to ACCURACY AT RANGE, the round is horrible. There's a NOTICEABLE amount of drop at anything over 50 yards. It's simply too heavy for its own good.

Same could be said for musketballs. Saying that a weapon has killed xyz amount of people has nothing to do with its accuracy or the effectiveness of the round, all it says is that the weapon is popular.

I'll agree to a certain extent. I picked up a newer-style Ranch Rifle to compare to my AC556 and I was sorely disappointed.

jacob300zx 06-06-2011 04:10 PM

If you want big damage, accurate shooting, and cheap price grab a Mosin Nagant. That 7.62x54r round in surplus hot rounds is a freakin menice. I just picked up 2 of them this weekend after seeing some kids having a blast with them at the range a couple of weeks ago. When you shoot one at the range everyone looks ): lol. They go between 70-170 and most are in almost brand new condition. You can also get 440 rounds for 75.00.

As far as pistols go, if you are that bad of a shot that you can't hit anything with a plastic 9mm then go for that 1911.

Fireindc 06-06-2011 05:29 PM

My buddy just got a 1911 in 9mm(yes I know, lame). After dissing it, I actually shot it and was pleasantly surprised. Personally if I was dropping the funds for a 1911 id spring for something with a little better magazine capacity.

As for the AK talk, I agree with pusha on both accounts. 7.62x39 is not very accurate at any real distance, and stamped receiver ak47's are lame(although cheap). Ive been rocking a Galil remake called the Golani. http://www.tropicalfirearms.com/images/Golani.jpg

Milled receiver, collapsible stock, LONG 18" barrel, .223 and 5.56 rated.

KPLAFIN 06-07-2011 06:56 AM

$1500 for a 1911? Fuck it, just by yourself something from Springfield and spend the rest on plinking ammo.

rmcelwee 06-07-2011 08:09 AM

Yeah, $1500 - and the guy had THREE of them...

Fondled a Springfield GI. $400. Did not like.

Don't get me wrong, Springfield is no Wilson Combat by any means, but at that price point, you're not gonna get much better bang for your buck. Check out their other lines than the GI, they're pretty low quality in comparison.

There's always Colt if you can't find a Springfield that you think is decent.

Yeah it felt solid but it also felt cheap. I also did not like the sights. 3 dot please.

You use sites on a pistol?

l_bader 06-07-2011 07:59 PM

+1 on the STI (Former Blackwater Buddy swears by his)

And Pusha be damn'd, the Kimber CDP Pro I bought as a retirement gift for myself had the "bells & whistles" I wanted and fired excellently out of the box.
