Chick Cars

I and everyone else has ran into this, but I posted up something about the new Genesis R-Spec 5.0 and of course all the mustang car guys have to make a comment. One of the comments is you drive a chicks car. I dont know about you guys but I have seen more girls drive mustangs (V6) than guys. I don't care about neg criticism, you guys can say F*** you I drive a mustang or what ever. I just wanted to see what you guys run into and if there are any thing you guys say to them (keep it clean tho).

TorqueZombie 02-19-2012 04:56 AM

I'm actually interested in this. Writing a short essay on this for a class. Title is Hairdressers in Fast Cars-hope I don't get hit with a copy write problem. Working title anyway. Funny thing is my professor's son has a Miata. Cool dude, I see him in the writing lab. We talked about my paper for 5min and then wasted 45min on talking Miatas.

Could use a few stereotype examples if anyone wants to add. Already have the part about Carrol Shelby calling the mustang a secretaries car.

chpmnsws6 02-19-2012 08:54 AM

IIRC, the mustang was actually designed for women. I also heard the fox was created because women wanted a smaller mustang that would be easier to drive.

In Gene Bordinat’s own words: “the Mustang was a secretary’s car”

somewhere I read that more than half of all mustang owners were women. can't source that so take it with a grain of feminine salt.

So, you're saying women know FWD sucks better than men? Seeing all the Hondas on the road, I suppose that a pretty good bet.

TorqueZombie 02-19-2012 07:06 PM

Yeah I got the Mustang for women part just couldn't find a serious quote. It's a rough draft due tonight and the final is next week. It funny cause the paper is about minorities. Everyone else is doing the usual gays, or racial stuff. He expressly said no religion because christianity is not a minority. Unless it is a weird obviously not a main stream religion. Thanks for the help.

Sorry for the thread jack-I can start my own if need be.

On topic-
Went to BestBuy today to get a lifeproof case for my iphone. Asked the guy if they had the GoPro mount adapters and where could I find the rollbar/suction mounts if they had the adapter. He asked me what car I had...."2 miatas"......in condesending voice... "haha, what you race those things or something?"

viperormiata 02-19-2012 07:31 PM

Lol, I get this kind of ---- all the time. It doesn't really matter how many lengths you put on them, or how many seconds you beat them in each run.

-"oh..whatever! It's still a miata!"

"It's faster than your car in a straight line and much, much faster than your car in the corners. It gets over 30mpg, is cheap, bullet proof, parts are plentiful and I can have nearly any part fabricated for a 1/3rd of the price for any of the off the shelf parts for your car. It's the most raced car on the planet and easily one of the best selling sports cars in history."

-"yeah whatever bro. Since when is it a sports car?"

EDIT: That sounded a bit "me against the world". There are a lot of people that get it.

VW Beetle, VW cabrio, 4th gen Jetta, bmw 318ti, Mini cooper (non s), any mini convertible, '10 and older V6 mustangs, especially the convertibles.

I can't even tell you guys how sick and tired I am of the "girls car" or "gay car" stereotype that the miata gets. I have a few friends who are genuine car guys and they actually don't bust on me, but instead they accept my car because of the fact that I actually do the work to it to make it fast. The only punks that crap on my car are clowns who's parents fund their rides, or people who buy their cars already souped up. Example: this fist pumpin bro-ski pretty boy at work bought an O3 Saleen mustang with a Twin Screw supercharger...HE BOUGHT IT LIKE THAT. Then he has the balls to diss my car all the time. I'm like, "buy a stock GT and then make it fast yourself, and when it's done with the work that YOU did to it, we'll see who's faster, cause any a$$wipe with decent credit can go buy something fast."
Everytime I hear the stereotype, I actually convince myself that the person who just said the insult is obviously extremely unintelligent of anything related to the high performance automotive world.

Bond 02-19-2012 07:51 PM

This is why I drive a BMW now, far less gay.

gearhead_318 02-19-2012 08:02 PM

I've only been ripped on once by a stranger, and it was a 12-13 year old girl who was sarcastically telling me she liked my car while half out of her dads explorer, he was ignoring the (very weird) situation. I believe if you make the car look more masculine then you wont catch as much ----. Black wheels + rollbar make it look far less feminine IMO.

You mean the same BMW that wouldn't start a few days after you bought it? Suck it, Bond.

I should add that the guy who was "dissing" my car drives an Accord  it is a well modded car. K24, Full Race side mound manifold, Precision huge turd turbo, etc... He made (well he says, anyway) 430whp @13psi. Mind you this is a typical honduh "bro". The car is ruined with hood ass 17's(I asked him the weight and he said, "why"), stock suspension and all-seasons with a 30 sidewall; stretched, of course.

Funny story actually, the last time he as at a local meet he "had beef" with the red miata that people were talking about (my car).

"Dat yo car? Wanna race me?"

-Sure. Dig run.

"nah, lets do it from a roll"

-I'm not doing a supra roll.

"Ahh you gunna be like dat? Scared, huh?"

-Go to the track and ask them if you can make a pass from a roll. If you can't drive, then learn.

Turns out he has to race people from a....drum roll please...70 roll if he has any hopes of actually winning.

FRT_Fun 02-19-2012 10:18 PM

lul at people who buy fast cars. I catch some ---- at work. But no one I work with has any idea how to do anything other than MAYBE an oil change. So it's fairly easy to come back with a list of ---- I've done on my car, and ask what they have done lately.

It doesn't matter to me. I wear my miataturbo and flyinmiata shirts out all the time. I'll joke about myself every once in a while too. All in all the miata is an amazing car. The guys that make fun of them are 9 times out of 10 more girly than me. They probably just feel inferior and need to try and bring me down to their level. Doesn't work.

pdexta 02-20-2012 04:59 PM

I get the occasional guy in a big truck or on a harley with some condescending remark. I usually just give them my best limp wrist waive and go about my way. I've never had anyone say something after giving the waive, I think it throws them off.

The vast majority of comments I get are positive.

eh... I don't know if I agree with that argument, but then again my definition of fast is probably very different than yours. People who buy M3s, 350Zs, G35s, base Corvettes, etc. are usually the people who have some sort of inferiority complex and use phrases like "this thing rides out, bro", even though it's really a slow turd. also, it's important to note that a majority of these cars are automatic.

emilio700 02-21-2012 10:15 PM

If they have half a brain and know how to drive, I let them drive it. If they don't quite qualify for the drivers seat (He said with an evil laugh), I take them for a nice ride and maybe throw in a few 1.2g corners with fear-of-god inducing late braked entry speeds. If they are pale and shaking a bit afterwards, I know I don't need to say a thing.

Not hypothetical by the way. I have offered this introduction into light weight sports cars on many occasion. :giggle:

G forces can be fun in more than one direction.

NastyNate 02-24-2012 11:01 PM

I take anyone that says my car is gay for a fun ride. The commentns range from its not gay to holy ----. I mix in drifting, cornering, and straight speed. To date I have no complaints just squeels.

inferno94 02-26-2012 09:31 PM

The only negative comments I got were pre turbo from teenagers, these were yelled from the side walk as I passed.

After the turbo and enthuza 3" exhaust I can't hear them and women are regularly commenting on the "hot car", more often when I drive home from work with the top down wearing a suit (yes suiting up works).

I see the sporty cars like grand am's, tiburons, eclipse, vw cabrio etc that are fwd as girl cars but they are what many females I know want or drive.

I find that many women drive mustangs. it almost seems like more than guys. In fact there's some older stripper in town who has one of those shelby mustang convertibles. I wonder how many dicks she sucked to buy that thing

I'm actually looking forward to running into some mustang people this summer. Seeing as I have their 5.0 but built better than most that I will see and they are giving up 500+ lbs, it's not really a contest.

Do you expect to have traction? Have you done any testing? I'm aware that it's probably rather cold in your area at the moment, but what are you expecting?

hornetball 02-27-2012 12:36 AM

To be perfectly honest, I'm guilty. I originally bought my Miata as a high school car for my oldest daughter.

She HATED it (noisy, too small, she didn't feel safe, she didn't like shifting, she couldn't take more than one friend, yada, yada, yada).

I friggin' LOVE this thing. I also loved the Douglas A-4. And the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18.

So much for the chick car theory.

I have RS3's on 6UL's for DD duty and I have a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials on a pair of 6UL's for drag racing.

Based on other V8 owners, both will work well. Obviously the straight line traction will be better with the drag radials but the RS3's should hold well second gear and above.

I bought my fiance a 92, well ours really, and I'm proud that she can drive it. If miatas were "chick" cars, then there would be more good female drivers out there. Just saying.

Guilty as charged, lol. I love how Miatas are loud, exciting to drive, easy to work on, RWD, LSD, double wishbone, center of car seat position...I guess I drive a girl's car.

Note the left hand turn limitation. This is important. You need to avoid the puke.

psreynol 03-02-2012 01:05 AM

yeah, like everyone I've heard it and think its funny. the general population knows nothing about about cars so they can talk all the ---- they want, doesn't even register with me. spec miata is the most popular race series in history end of story. I know at at least half a dozen people that sold sold various sick track cars, porsche gt-3, vettes to buy miatas because they got sick of paying for consumables every weekend.

GTRicky 03-02-2012 01:43 PM

I also refuse to believe that it's a chick's car when some one at my build owns one and it has Special Forces stickers on the back window. I work on an Army installation, so I don't think it's someone ------- around.

That one guy89 03-13-2012 02:49 AM

Yeah, mine gets beat down all the time... its known more as "the cute car" but I seem to think other wise. I LOVE these cars. I've been wanting to make a sticker saying "Does my a** look cute? ha just the other day I was on my way home and had a ricer honda bro tool Point and laugh:gtfo:. Was pretty funny as he started to speed up as I hung beside him for a sec then took off, met back up at the light guess who was laughing?... haha ME, and the look he gave was priceless!:giggle:

So that's your story, huh?

I always make light of my car and try to beat people to the punch. I don't take it too seriously because 1. My identity isn't tied up in what I drive, and 2. It isn't my only car so it doesn't need to be my only public image. I have other uncool vehicles too. I also have a big gay pickup truck, a big gay big block musclecar, and a little gay English roadster. Oh, yeah, I also have a big gay boat. So what?

Don't worry guys, you will become more comfortable with your identity as you grow up and become more mature. Well, most do. I have several friends older than me that are so insecure that they need to project a cool image to everyone at the expense of their credit being maxxed out and having houses they can't afford being foreclosed out from under them.

And I have a customer and a couple of friends that were converted to Miatas after exposure to the lightweight cars. My customer had Corvettes and a Chevy SSR truck before the first drive in a crappy (seriously) high mileage Miata but he was hooked on the light weight and responsiveness immediately and bought it.

buffon01 03-14-2012 01:08 AM

Yeah, that's my story... Anyhooters is hard to take offense from fan boys that cannot tell the difference between a spark plug and their butt plugs.

That one guy89 03-14-2012 01:36 AM

Truth. I bought my first Miata because it's way cheaper to beat on than my C5 and there's really few other cars that can compare as a learning tool on a track.

psreynol 03-15-2012 12:41 AM

who cares what people say, the general public knows nothing about cars. all that maters is that you enjoy the car. if someone hates on your Miata it is likely not worth the effort to try to explain why it is a great car. I know why i bought mine, I know its the most popular race car ever built, I know it has more potential then just about any other car and I know it is cheap to maintain and run at the track. so anyone who gets upset by this bs should think about buying another car. I remember a guy in the PCA who sold his 944 and got a 911 just because people said it was not a real Porsche. all he wanted to do was go to the meets and hang out and if owning the 911 made him feel like a big shot then great, he did the right thing. still cant help but think its kinda sad but people chose cars based on image all the time so if you cant deal with a stereo type then move on, uou aint gonna change it.

petrolmed 03-15-2012 02:58 AM

What a pushover, the 944 is an amazing car. Oh well sheeple will be sheeple. I'd consider getting one way down the road if I didn't already have a miata. The two are quite similar in purpose and capability. However, the 944 is older, less mechanically forgiving, less of a beater, way more expensive for parts, etc. so to me the choice is clear.

RattleTrap 03-15-2012 04:25 AM

Teh ghey? Please tell me it's true...

I'm trying to establish and project a 'Ghey lifestyle'. I've always felt like a woman trapped in a man's body. But, she's a lesbian and cross-dresses as a man to pick up women.

The gay guys I know are always dressed well, money in their pockets and having a good time. So tell me wtf am I doing wrong? I've already got cats.
I wear Hawaiian shirts and cargo shorts. (Long pants are for formal dress.) Mannerisms and vocal inflections? Check.
So, I figure all I need is teh ghey car.

So, don't be tellin' me these aren't gay or chick cars or else I'll just go back to my 5.0 Mustang and be a ''nilla with a nine.' Oh, wait, like that's not gay. Hmm.

BTW, next time someone dooshe tells you your car is gay/girly, Reply 'Oh, so you have one too?'
Then invite them for Grasshoppers and Mai-Tais...

hornetball 03-15-2012 06:34 AM

+1. Avoiding marriage and reproduction has always been the key to having money in your pocket. I fail.

Ryan_G 03-15-2012 09:33 AM

Suprisingly I have gotten just as many compliments on how nice my car is as how much of a chick car it is. The ladies always love it and my favorite was the zeezee top looking biker on the harley who turned to me at the stop light and said, "Nice car, I bet its fast." in a completely serious manner. That one caught me off guard. Then there is the occasional redneck that has a jacked up v10 pickup and tries to keep me from passing them. They always laugh right up until I downshift from right behind them and swing out for the blowby pass. Then they shut the ---- up

yeah they are awesome cars. my only beef is that they are a pain in the ass to work on, the turbo is on the wrong side, and that I would burn up a set of track tires and brakes in a couple days. when you account for about 1300 in tires and nearly 600 for track pads then it really adds up. i guess this can be more or less true with any heavy car. I think if I were to do it again I might go with a nicely built 944 s2, though its tough to walk away from the nice power of a big turbo 944 and I still really like body lines. I miss that car but got a offer I could not walk away from.

I bought a Miata for a good Track car and daily driver. It is a good platform to start from and there are so many Miata races/clubs to choose from. The Miata can be vary fast with a little HP and money.
