haven't gotten my tree yet. with no kids i'm kinda against killing a tree to put in my house, besides i've got a perfectly good one in the corner of my yard....however i have a wife, so i lose

cjernigan 11-27-2009 10:17 PM

GF is going to be pressing pretty hard to have a small tree in the apartment. Not sure why she loves xmas decoration so much, spice candles and all.

y8s 11-27-2009 10:42 PM

dont have one yet. probably next weekend. i wonder if brainyak is getting his at the same place next to the car parts store.

NA6C-Guy 11-27-2009 11:13 PM

I haven't had a tree for probably 5 or 6 years. Until I have kids I don't see a point. So I should have at least another half of a decade to avoid vacuuming up all of those fucking needles the day after Christmas.

Fiance put one up last weekend at her place. I hate Christmas trees. Have to carry them, decorate them, vacuum up all the needles and then you have to wait until it dries up, carry the thing outside while getting stuck with needles (and dropping more that you have to vacuum up), load it into a pickup, drive all the way out to the state forest and then pitch it out of the bed on the side of the road without anybody seeing you.

This year, I'm getting a palm tree.

Braineack 11-30-2009 01:21 PM

this is why they invented pre-lit collapsible synthetic trees.

Exactly, pull box out of shed, set up stand and three tree pieces, DONE! :D

Decorating the plastic tree, and finishing the house tonight. I think this year I am leaving the house lights off though.

This. I live on a dead end gravel road with no through traffic save the other three people that live on it. We have no kids, we have no one coming over for the holidays. It's pointless.

That said, we will be putting up a tree. We have 12' ceilings so we bought a a 10' tree a few years ago the day after Christmas for 50% off. Still spendy but much cheaper than buying a live tree every year, especially that tall. Short trees look like crap in our living room. I put up the tree only. Then I am done. My wife decorates it and the rest of the house. If she wants a bunch done? Great. If she only wants a little, that's fine, too.

Yesterday I took advantage of the nice weather to get up on the roof. 28-foot ladder FTW. First I used the trusty HF angle grinder to hack off an old rusty antenna rotator setup from the chimney that probably hadn't been used since the 80s, then I cleaned out all the junk from the gutters, and finally I got to the business of hanging the icicle lights on the front. I still have to get the red and green floodlights set up and string some lights in the shrubbery and on the stoop, but at least the icicle lights are done.

Last year the little kids in my neighborhood all said how nice the house looked, which is great since it's really all about the kids. If they like my house decorations it will be easier to lure them into my van with candy during the other eleven months of the year.

Saturday we cut down a 11 footer and I carried that bitch a couple hundred yards back to the baler. Then we went to the wine tasting and I haz some. :)

yeah it's definitely not permanent, there was already a hook there when we moved in so i threw it up there so it wouldn't get broken, it's been there since.

miataspeed2005 12-07-2009 07:53 AM
