Default This civic look like a good deal? Real deal or too Ricey?

Here's a guy with an early 90's civic hatchback. He's got a whole lotta stuff in it. What are these like on the track compared to our Miata's. Looks like a cheap way to get a lotta power in a light car.

Here's all the crap he's had done. He'll take somewhere around 6-7K for it. Potential good deal or run like the wind? I've never owned Honda. Never wanted to own Honda (OK I like the S2000 but it's too spendy for my taste) but this looks like a pretty nice, well built, fast little car.

Used turbo track car.... just say no.

Unless you know the guy personally... I wouldn't touch it with a 10foot pole.

btw... i'm most comfortable with Hondas... I drive a turbo d16 daily... and my last track build was that body year and pure track car.

A properly setup Honda can RIP on track... people who tell you they suck are just biased and don't know any better. In a 2000lbs car with 190+hp... I was passing evo/m3/sti's all day long. It's all in the setup.

Oh... and its ricey

Lemme break parts of this down....

Rice...
Exterior:
Electron Blue Pearl with blue metallic flake $4k
fully molded rear bumper - skirts - fenders
Integra rear taillight conversion
JDM Type R Headlight Conversion
Shaved side mouldings

Actually had these in my hatch... i liked it for a cheap black conversion and easy placement of gauges by driver area.
Interior:
Intergra Dash
Integra cluster
Integra center console with leather armrest

Seat is fine
ALL BLACK
Carbeau Race GT SEats - blue
Doubt these harnesses are anything but a knockoff... if 4pt... junk... if legit.. I just haven't heard of them.
Trust Seats harness
Panasonic mp3/cd player
All black interior

Without brand.... no clue if it'll actually save your butt... or impale/pin you
5 Point Roll cage

Good gauge choices. Oil temp would be nice also...
Autometer Triple Pillar Pod
-oil pressure
-exhaust temp
-Boost

Stock brakes... his :( says it all
Suspension:
Stock brakes :(
Energy inserts

Has to be a typo... no way to setup rear 'traction' bars. No real proof traction bars help on track (other than drag)
Front and rear welded titanium traction bars

Fine if installed properly, without some sanding and locking washers, they can slip (if old model, if new model...all good)

Skunk2 pro camber kit

Junk
17" White wheels... 205/40-17 good tread

Ebay coilovers and ok shocks...
V-Spec colovers
Tokico fully adj. Struts

Lots of nice parts here, assuming shop was quality and all build is done properly. Nology wires are useless as is the MSD junk, honda ignition systems are good for crazy power.

I had this exact same chassis... i liked it (basically lightest factory model of the 92-95, same as the base CX model)

Rice Rice Baby, it's got the Rice Rice Baby.

It's got a ton of track related stuff on it but he did nothing with the brakes. I'm pretty active at Portland Raceway and I've never seen this car. He may be a 1/4 mile guy or autoXer but I'm thinking with stock brakes and a spendy paint job he wasn't seeing track time.

There are some seriously fast new VW GTI's running regularly at track days. I'm not biased against honda as a car, just what the usual crowd does with them. This obviously isn't stock but it's not outrageous either. Looks like it was done pretty well.

I'm starting my turbo build on the Miata, I have know idea why this car caught my eye.

Damn splittime, you serious about contributing to this thread. I'm thinking from the traction bars he might have racked up some regular 1/4 mile time. Definetely wouldn't want something that's been at the drags every weekend.

I like the JDM zip ties holding the front plate on. Don't forget the popularity of civics to thieves, esp if modified...

Yeah....alot of stuff on it. Sounds like One of those guys who drives around looking for "race's". Then does hard pulls from Light to light....you know the type. Rev's there engine at random when stoped ....

as For civic hatch"s as good cars. with the right stuff done and a compentent driver Ive seen these things rock in the canyons. light car with good handling charecteristics makes for a fun fast downhill car. its all prefrence anyways.

Pretty rice.

You might be able to get away with it if you change the front bumper and slap some big brakes on.

How much WHP on that setup?
Any pics of the rear tail light conversion???

If all else fails get 1 of these bad boys!

Trust = JAP spec Greddy. Good stuff! If you look at the small print on any greddy parts or paperwork you got it should appear somewhere.

RainX?

I dunno the exterior is pretty clean. I'd give it a borderline "not rice" rating except for the expanded metal and, of course, zip tied plate. Really though, the exterior has no value to most people so consider that when buying.

I think that the car looks decent overall, but like all these people have said before me. Buying someone elses used track car = pain. How do you know he's not selling cause the rings are going bad? or the seals arent failing?

I'd guess its probably a decent car for a street racer, but anyone who has put that much money into a "track" car and didn't do brakes...not so sure I'd want that. But, if you can fix any problems that arise yourself or very inexpensively, well, it'd be fun to play ricer once in a while, right?

The civic sounded interesting since, other than brakes, it sounds like a potentially hot set up for track days. I haven't and likely won't be able take a look at it. Dumb even to think about anything else until I get the miata build done. Heck I have hardly gotten my old 69 GS400 out of the garage this year. What would I do with another toy working 7 days a week.
