I sometimes just chew a few of the beans. Is that wrong?

Probably overextracted. Do you weigh your water & coffee? Try this -- 14.3:1 by weight, coarse grind (fresh beans of course), 5min brew. Tell us how it works out.
Sure it's not 14.7:1 by weight? ;) |

The good shit. This is the stuff the shop where I work brews. Comes in a bag, mix it with water from the girls bathroom sink, because the guys sink is too gross. Makes you take a dump about an hour after your first dixie-cup worth. This is man coffee. If you buy tampax, eat organic food, and own tiny dogs: buy your damn hippie/Beta-male coffee. But if you smoke cigars, snuggle your kitteh, and heel-toe your miata; you might just be manly enough for STANDARD COFFEE. Trust me, you'll taste it soon enough. It'll be in your pot sometime after I'm done riding your boyfriend. |
Roast your own. On the cheap you can use a hot air popcorn maker. Makes great coffee but very small batches. For 300.00 get the Behmor.. Does 1LB at a time.
Roastmasters.com has great Kona.. On the cheap.. Green bean buying club has great greans for good prices. Grinders, brewing and espresso.. A whole other rabbit hole. |
Guys. What's the best grinder? I'm still using an old cheapo blade grinder. Ready to move up to a burr grinder. Looking at a Breville BCG800XL. Can it be beat for under $200?

I like the baratza mills. they have a rebuildable one for 150ish.
also I decided on a brew temp of 202 F with my setup. with so-so beans a 15 second pre soak works well. ALSO also my thermos vacuum tumbler is da bomz. keeps coffee ho for hours and wont leak if tossed around. plus it fits in the mini's dinky cup holders. |

Right now I'm using this grinder but it's awkward to use because you have to hold it down with one hand while turning the crank with the other hand. Plus the hopper fill hole is annoying small and I usually end up spilling some beans. Anyone have a good recommendation for a better manual burr grinder? I'm thinking something like this style would be good... https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1371394980 |
Generally buy from http://www.mlcrc.com/Home.php
Use a cheap grinder and a cheap french press. Coarse grind for french press; delicious. Only drink drip, filter style if the girlfriend has made a pot. Mom buys me random, bags of coffee from different places she travels or finds it. Some suck, some are superb. |
Jamaica had some pretty good coffee... Was there in early June for my honeymoon and I'd like to see if I can find similar coffee for home!
