Colorado power bottom looking for hot cock

Good morning everyone. This forum appears to be more my style than miata.net. It appears there are more drag racers here. That is what I am interested in.

First off, my name is Steven. I live in denver, co. I am thinking very heavily on converting over to mazda. I have never been a big fan however. But my next project I think needs to be RWD. I want to keep it with a 4 cylinder however. I am 100% not interested in a 240SX. I have driven two stock miatas before and actually enjoyed them. Both were on test drives. One with a 1.6 and one with a 1.8.

I have been racing mitsubishis for the past six years. I currently own a 1989 Mirage and 1997 Eagle Talon. The talon I do not own, but am more or less 50/50 partners with a friend and his daughter. The mirage made 510whp through the bone stock motor. That is right, from the throttle body to the oil pan, BONE STOCK. The talon's best time so far has been 10.8@138. Best dyno was 636whp. It however should run deep into the 9's early out this season. Should be throwing her on the dyno soon and shooting for over 900whp on boost alone. My mirage has actually been sold, just trying to find time and a way to deliver it to the new owner.

So currently I have no toys of my own. The next logical step I can see myself in is a Miata. I know I have lost most of my output potential if I go with a mitata. But, I think it is time I try to keep it on the civil side. I am thinking 400-500whp. I build my own cars, tune my own cars, and do as much fabrication as I can handle. The thing is I need to really find someone local who has turbocharged their miata and see if I can get a ride along.

If anyone knows of anyone in the colorado front range area let me know. I would like to see if it is worth my time. I know flyin miata is in colorado, and they have already offered a ride, but they are 250 miles away. Let me know guys, I am pretty serious here but curious to see one of these little cars rocket down the road.

hustler 05-06-2007 02:45 PM

buy a fucking small block chevy for the drag strip.

Braineack 05-06-2007 03:01 PM

5lbs / HP...nice, good luck ;)

These aren't really the best drag cars what-so-ever, but it can be done: https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9580

Savington 05-06-2007 03:33 PM

500rwhp is hard in a Miata. Good luck.

Philip 05-06-2007 03:36 PM

if a run out to GJT isn't worth it then why the fuck should anyone waste their time and gas on you?

biglady112 05-06-2007 04:38 PM

You may be a admin and all, but that was uncalled for. I never said it wasn't worth it, that is an entire day I wouldhave to devote to a test drive/ride. Send me the money for what it is going to take to drive 500 miles and I will go in a heart beat. I have seen a few guys in the area and I have seen a few that have cities in their profiles close to me. I AM NOT A NOOBIE. I am trying to break into your market. Just would like to even look at one if possible. I have the funds to back my imagination. From what I have seen if you are serious making power is not out of the question. I can apply everything I know directly into these mazdas. Tuning program is probably going to be the same. I have seen all the problems you guys are having and am willing to help and use my knowledge here. It isn't any different in the mitsubishi world.

I am not some kid trying to sound cool and have impossible dreams. I think something in the 60-65lb/min range is ont out of the question if you take your time and prepare everything properly. Just like any car. I have heard all the stories how tight nit most miata guys are. I know going to drag racing route is out of the norm here, but that is what I do and that is what I love. I know that there are few and far between miatas making this kind of power. But I have already seen that fueling and tuning is the main issues here. I have all the fuel I need sitting in the basement barring I can get a fuel rail to work sufficiently. Tuning I have down.

If hondas, mitsubishis, and nissans can make retarded and reliable power then why can't a mazda. Motors all function the same right? With enough fuel the sky is the limit. I enjoy building oddball cars. Things that are different or not right. So a drag miata is not too out of the question. These cars have always raised my brow a little now I want to evaluate if they are right for me. Lightweight, RWD and a 4 cylinder, why not?

Steven

turbopezz 05-06-2007 05:22 PM

do it ,there's a guy at the local track near me(i havent met yet)with a sr20 swaped with a big ass t2 flange turbo that runs 11.00s all day.he was telling my friend with his high boost settings he can break into the 9s.

he also of course has some different type of rearend.

"fueling and tuning is the main issue..." um... that's any car, everytime you do anything to it, unless you think you're going to un 9's on a stock motor, which wouldn't suprise me because you seem like a fucking moran, ricer, ------. GTFO

If you know so much, why are you fucking here? Thanks for coming on here, and telling us that we're all wrong.

dude a word of advice if you like reading this baord dont piss off phillip. If you want a ride along so bad go visit FM in colorado or some of the other varius tunner shops i highly doubt anyone is going to drive there car to you.

Jefe 05-06-2007 06:30 PM

We need a little bugle playing Taps right about now...

chuckerants 05-06-2007 06:38 PM

Steven, you come off sounding like an asshole. "...see if it is worth my time." Sheesh.

I drove from SoCal to Phoenix to take a ride in a FI car. Do you think I bitched about the distance and GAS MONEY???

magnamx-5 05-06-2007 06:42 PM

Also past 300 whp we have major driveline problems and would require alot of stiffening to hook the power correctly. Just food for thought, fuel and hp on the motor is the easy part getting the car to last ie gears suspension etc is not. Look at any SCC/GRM chalenge car and you will see abit about our driveline issues. Only the stupid and the greedy blow miata motors. I was greedy. they are frigin stout, our frames and chassis on the other hand being so light weight are not.

magnamx-5 05-06-2007 06:45 PM

RWHP on a miata has more to do with the fact that you didn't shear a tranny or pinion gear or bend the PPF than anything else when you talk those numbers. I am certianly convinced 600+ hp is acheivable easily on a engine dyno, but you want it to power the car not the dyno :gay:

miatamania 05-06-2007 06:52 PM

^ +1...

magnamx-5 05-06-2007 06:53 PM

also i checked mapquest FM is 267 miles from brighton 1 way. that is what 3 hours of driving 4.

magnamx-5 05-06-2007 06:54 PM

just get on intersate 70 west and viola you will be there in no time.

miatamania 05-06-2007 06:58 PM

ever heard of editing your post magna? ;)

speedracerTD04 05-06-2007 07:36 PM

i'd certainly drive to FM to get a ride... i mean it's not like if i wanted a ride i would just beep them and they would be at my every service...

sometimes things that are worth seeing are worth driving/flying to... kinda like vacations haha.

Braineack 05-06-2007 07:36 PM

I dont think it was out of line, they are going to have the best cars for you to sample. If you are really serious and it's worth your time to do so, then I dont see why you cant makea day of it.

y8s 05-06-2007 07:42 PM

I drove over 1000 miles in one stretch to get to flyin miata. ;) suck it up.

better yet, go to miatas at hallett. You'll get to see some crazy cars, and you might get over drag racing in a car meant for a road course.

biglady112 05-06-2007 07:48 PM

Alright. Already I see how things are here. As I said, I have already discussed things with Flyin Miata. They told me give them a few days notice to make sure a car is ready to rock. So that is not the hard part. Sounds as if there is no one in my area and I have no other choice. I guess a trip is in order. And from first impression, I am going to have to go about this mazda thing on my own.

Good thing I have one friend with an MSP.

and check out BEGi too. I payed an extra $1000 for their kit over the FM kit for a reason.

edit:
you should definitely buy a different car if people are mean to you.

:gay: we like to haze.

magnamx-5 05-06-2007 08:18 PM

dude how much warmer can we be. you just seem determined to disregard our logic. and take exception to abit of funning around. Whatever like i said before it is totally doable but the drivetrain etc, mods will add up to way more than the rest of the setup.

speedracerTD04 05-06-2007 08:22 PM

steven, no hard feelings...i'm a noob here as well. and half the time i dont' know what i'm talking about.. and u probably know 10 times as much as me about building crazy cars. maybe even 110 times...

so it's cool to see another guy take a step in the right direction and get a miata...because as girly as they may seem, they are some serious sport tuning vehicles of transportation...yes that's rights. transportation.

lets not give miataturbo.net a bad name...

but there is a sense of humor that goes around here, i'm thankful to pick up on it quickly.

50% of all new posters will get shit on. 50% will not. It's totally luck of the draw.

wow, i am sorry, everyone is acting really really rude to you. If you want to make that much power, a guy has already done it and you should ask him (i am sure he has chimed in this forum already - just do a quick search).

anyways, another route you can do is dropping an ls1 engine in the car and then S/C or Turbo'ing the larger motor.

Goodluck with your quest, I would really like to see you accomplish this.

Btw, miatas are awesome and the forum community is USUALLY nice, but right now they are being rude.

Motherfucker, the shit is bought up!!!!! Everything is lined up and paid for (aside from pistons and rods) and I'm just waiting to get a couple weeks off to do the swap, install, and tune...and probably take a few pics.

I love you.

Wowzers...lol.
What does knowing someone with a MSP have to do with anything anyway?
I know whole site load over where I moderate at...just because you have a friend that owns a Madza, doesn't mean that you will get the support of the rest of the group.
It's unfortunate, but I really would like to see more high HP Mx-5's...but I think we know it's a road best not traveled.
With that...:inout:

jwarriner 05-07-2007 12:34 PM

I much prefer a forum full of smart assholes than nice idiots. If I came here and made a ------y welcome thread and got sucked off by everyone I'd be pretty worried. But instead I registered, lurked for awhile and didn't say a word and I realized a welcome post is stupid because nobody gives a shit who I am.

And also, nobody gives a shit about your DSM experience. Remember that. DSMs are so easy. They can make anyone look like a hero if they have $100 and a hacksaw. So your DSM knowledge really doesn't mean shit here. Little tips and tricks all us DSMers know, they don't work on a Miata. We're noobs in the Miata world, my friend.
