I currently have an older Logitech surround sound setup for my home Compy386. It came with a center speaker, four satellites and a cube woofer. It's currently on its last leg and I want to replace it with something else.

Currently, I don't even have the satellites in place so all the sound is coming just from the small center speaker. I like the lack of clutter. I really just need it for the occasional YouTube video or background Pandora. I am not an audiophile. I do not do any PC gaming.


Are there any single speaker setups like that?

Hmm. I was thinking bar-type speaker, but that's probably too narrow.

problem with single speaker units is they tend to get expensive since they want to do everything a multi-speaker system does.

boston acoustic makes a killer version of what im saying but its up there in price.

what about a decent 2 speaker setup? alot of them can be had with USB supplied power so ther is only 2 cord to the PC and one cord between the speakers.

 

You did no specify price, which is the only reason I'll mention this product... you want a small ZVOX base that your monitor actually sits on. They are absurdly expensive for what they are, but I've heard several models and they sound fantastic (again, for what they are). The 525 is $270 online, which is ******* insane for what amounts to a pair of computer speakers in a single cabinet... but:

I would love to own the big 580 to go under my 52" lcd den TV where we do 99% of our regular TV watching. It's the ultimate anti-speaker... but for $600, you can get a mid-level refurb receiver and a decent 7.1 surround speaker package. I've been waiting for another company to finally get the ******* picture that soundbars are ******* horrible and build some low-priced competition for ZVOX. 35hz from something the size of a medium pizza-box is on my wish list.

 

I was in your exact same situration until I stole from my Mom. For what you're doing, the sound is more than adequate, it's quite small, and it's portable/rechargable.

 

Check your sound settings and see if there's a mono setting. All sound already goes to a single speaker, then it splits it and sends either the left or right channel to the other speaker. Set your sound to mono and unplug the other speak, voila. Then again, if you're buying a $20-50 stereo setup, might as well use both speakers.

If you're listening to one speaker thats not directly in front of you, your ears will hate you after and hour or more.

 

Sorry; I should have specified a price range. I found numerous 2-speaker setups for under $50 (some well under) and would like to stay in that area.
