Corvettes.

I thought the C5 corvette was fast? :naughty:

cueball1 04-03-2010 01:52 PM

Those early 2000 Z06's do really well on the track. Light mods, r-comps and driven fairly well I can't hang with em. That's just one reason I'm building a motor and upgrading brakes and aero!

Bryce 04-03-2010 02:11 PM

I'm always very close to buying a 2003 electron blue Z06.

Savington 04-03-2010 02:34 PM

you thought wrong? :p

Ben 04-03-2010 03:02 PM

Regular C5s aren't anything special. Light mods really wake them up.

Braineack 04-03-2010 03:10 PM

Well the guy I pulled on, on the highway this morning, sure wasn't happy.

Guess his Baker Racing sticker didn't add enough RWHP. :giggle:

You should see the C6Z owners. They REALLY don't like it.

I always had a place in my heart for one....it is black, with a cage and cams.

miata2fast 04-03-2010 06:51 PM

Did he slump real close to the steering wheel, and avoid eye contact with you, after you put it to him?

Braineack 04-03-2010 07:02 PM

no, ricer flyby...then i stayed behind him for like 30 minutes due to traffic, lolz.

browning 04-03-2010 07:05 PM

ha i remember some tool showing up at one of our car clubs dyno days with an 03 04 corvette built motor supercharger ect... he bought the car modded was told it was between 700 to 800 horsepower.

so a corbra mustang dynos throws up a mid 700 h/p range then a turboed miata put up a low 300 h/p number the corvette guy was next him being all cocky ask anyone want to wager his number i said slightly more than the miata he hit 368 h/p to the wheels ran again got a 360 they unhooked his car he rolled out of there without saying a word or even looking at anyone:giggle::giggle:

Similar thing happened to me the other day. I was cruisin down a rural road and a vette pulled out infront of me. I tried to instigate things since where we were there was plenty of straights. After about a mile he turned down a side street and I thought o well I'm gonna stop by the river for some pics and let my dog take a shit anyways. So I did and not two minutes later the same dude pulls back out and as he sees me standing by the side of the road he floors it, nice :giggle: I'm not saying I would have won if we did race, but what a prick...

chicksdigmiatas 04-03-2010 07:28 PM

90 percent of vette owners are yuppie douches think their cars are the pinnacle of awesomeness and are faster than every thing that could potentially pull up next to them.

miata2fast 04-03-2010 07:36 PM

When I was at the track Thursday, I was paired with a mid 90's Mustang, and when we raced I missed a gear. He put it to me.:vash: The next pass, low and behold, we were paired again. I wiped the damn smirk off his face.

turotufas 04-03-2010 09:44 PM

I have video of a c5 chasing me on a small road course. I was on stock power (exhaust. intake. etc) it took him at least 5 laps. He bought a s2000 powered Miata soon after.

airbrush1 04-03-2010 09:49 PM

Someday, when the right one pops up, I'll own a C5 ZO6.....

More than one camshaft in an LS1/6? Let me know how that works out.

I highly doubt it was the same C5.

Sparetire 04-05-2010 01:17 PM

Vettes suffer for the same effect effect that Hondas have, but from the opposite end of the spectrum. Its like how life under Stalin was in many ways like life under Hitler. Complete opposites, same effect.

Vettes tend to be bought by old people who want something fast, have a decent amount of cash, and are often ignorant as hell when it comes to cars.

Hondas tend to be bought by young people who want something fast, have no cash, and are often ignorant as hell when it comes to cars.

In the end both end up being wasted potential by our standards. Sad.

C5s with some proper damping and tires are pretty sweet. Freind of mine has a C5Z and it's pretty planted in the corners in stockish form, even on crappy surface.

Where else do you get a rear mounted transaxle setup, a pretty advanced chassis, and an engine capable of relaible 500+ WHP NA for under 50K?

hustler 04-05-2010 02:50 PM

I had the please of running an "Apex" school day with a school of vettes...like 25 of them I think. There was one faster car on the track that day and it was a C6Z driven by a driving god who can impregnate women with eye contact.

I think I remember going 3-wide around a v8r x7 and a c6z at MSR on the last miata challenge event. I'm fairly certain that everyone involved was thoroughly confused.

My neighbor's coworker had his C6 Z06 over yesterday. It's got a cam package and upgraded valvetrain. Making a clacking sound so we pulled the pax valve cover. Broken Comp Cam valve spring. Could have been a price dropped valve but luckily it appears there's no damage.

The C6Z is surprisingly small and I liked the interior. Of course for that coin you could get a C6 and with a few mods, have it best a C6Z for a lot less.

spoolin2bars 04-06-2010 02:54 PM

there is one particular c5z driver down here that can be a real prick. everyone that has had the displeasure of meeting him at a trackday wether it was during tech, or as an instructor feels the same way.

well, i finally had a chance to run with him in the same group at a h2r trackday and after riding his ass for 2-3 laps (without him getting a passing flag!) he finally gave me the pissed off point by. he was literally stabbing the air with his finger! lol, it was awesome. once by, he found that he couldn't hang with me in my little red chick car. afterwards, he was talking to another vette guy and said "that little car's pretty quick" which i'm sure was hard for him to do, what's better is the other vette guy said "oh, really? what car are you in?" that red miata over there, "oh....wow"

$8K for a good blower setup stomps the LS7. Still leaves you with another $10K to mod as you wish.

So you're the 22 year old resident LSX expert? :jerkit: Just because your parents have a couple 'vettes in the garage with minor bolt-ons does not make you one. Dry sump and lighter chassis make no difference on the street. You'll only discern those difference in testing on a tarmac or in an all out race setting.

hustler 04-07-2010 09:28 AM

I guess I should have known by the way you parked your car sidewazzzz that it wouldn't last.

Oh, we were talking street setups? I was referring to track use. Your argument is stupid anyway, the $50k you'd spend on an LS3 C6 could be spent making a retardedly fast FRC. Oh wait, the $50k you spent on that FRC? Think about the 5.0 you could make!!

Also, I highly doubt you're qualified to comment on me or what I own and don't own. Never assume.

So I have to respect someone who's attacking me via ad hominem because of his age and registration date on an internet message board? If anything, as an older member and supposedly a more mature person, he should be setting an example for newer members and younger people to follow.

In short, yes.

BTW, as an older and more mature person, if you review all his posts, you'll notice he sets a great example by NOT say fag and gay regarding Miatas, Meets, and fellow Miata owners.

Also, if you took me seriously (like I took Hustler the first few months), then here's where I tell you I was jokingly busting your fuzzy little balls.

Sparetire - shut it, n00b.

Don't knock on age :)

As far as track C5's go, you can't beat a 1999 FRC with Bilstiens, Pfadt bars, a set of Z06 rims with 275's up front and 315's in the back. They are just a PITA to work on, track maintenance is expensive, and insurance was enough to make me cry every 6 months..... Which is why I ended up in the Miata camp.

IDK about the NB's, but the NA's suck as far as driver comfort. That is the only place the C5 won HANDS DOWN (besides getting the ladies wet of course)

I want a C5. Buddy of mine in Cleveland has the advantage of being a computer network admin (or something) and still living at home. He daily drives a Saturn SL1... lol.... and weekend's his '03 Z06 w/ cam/exhaust/150 shot.

I fookin hate him.

Then again, I have a house and a hot tub.... so, whose having more fun?

A lot can be said for the OEM 2004 Z06 shocks. As far as wheels go, OEM 18 x 10.5s all around is the way to go.
