The end of your original thread.

leatherface24 01-30-2010 09:49 AM

Well here?s the story:

I bought this head that im sure most of you know about. I had a nightmare of a time getting it from fed ex because I apparently gave the wrong zip code to the seller and fed ex basically lost, then found, then lost, then found my box and shipped it to my in-laws all beat to the hell. The head itself had only minor gouges in the valve cover contact side and I ended up having them repaired and its fine now. I was informed when I bought the head that all that had to be done was the lash had to be set, grinding the lash caps had to be done for this to happen, and the head assembled and it would be done, ready to put on my short block and that was it. I was going to have the head finished off by the same guy who did all the port and machine work to it originally. I got impatient when I heard that it was going to take 2-3 weeks until he could get to it. This was back in the beginning of November approximately. So I ended up having the head shipped to me to have finished. This is the fun begins.

I took the head to a very reputable machinist and engine builder by me who builds race cars and such to have the head put together and finished. About 3 days later after dropping it off, I get a phone call from him. He assembled the head to see where everything was at first. Mind you, he knew that the lash caps had to be ground in order to set the lash like I was told. Well, when I made it to the shop, I had valve clearances that were way off with some of them measuring 0 all the way to 24. Something obviously was not right here. The machinist also showed me that the cam straps were badly gouged and need to be line bored. Even bigger pisser there. He also was too leery of doing anything more with the head because he claimed that once this thing started seeing some high revs, there?s a big possibility of failure. His, advice, as well as two other engine builders as to scrap the head and not use it. So I called up Noah and let him know the situation. I was informed that the guy who did all the original machine work knew what he was doing and that he would take care of it but not until the second week of January. Bummer for me since I had already wasted cash for the machinist, and shipping. Mean while, this is December now and my car has been sitting this whole time. I?ve been borrowing my in-laws vehicle and letting my car sit in his backyard which he uses for work. So that was a problem.

Granted Noah had answered my calls and had been helpful in trying to get this resolved for me. Now, I was starting to get antsy and aggravated because somehow, I felt that I bought this head under false pretenses; there?s a lot more work and money that had to be dumped into this head that I was told. So I wanted to go to the source, the original machinist and see what the story was on his side. When I asked for his number, Noah for some reason or another would give it to me off the bat. Instead he told me that he gave the machinist me number and that I had to be patient because he would get around to calling me when he could which would be after the holidays. Ok. Mind you, im a hair away from blowing up but I realize that if I loose my cool, id get no where real fast. So the past few days went by, and I couldn?t get Noah on the phone for nothing. Phone went straight to voicemail each time ive called. So, I decided to ask someone else for help who knows the machinist and eureka, I got his number. I called him up last night and had a very nice and informative conversation. Both of us realized that we hadn?t been exactly happy of how this whole thing had gone down. Apparently, Noah decided to take the head back from the machinist after being told that basically the head wasn?t finished yet. The machinist recommended to Noah that he buy new cams because the ones he had were shot. So that explained the bad cam straps. Then, he mentioned how he takes a lot of pride in his work and that it felt like he had been shafted for not being able to finish the head like he wanted to and it needed to be. So when money became an issue to finish off head right, Noah took the head back, and sold it to me. While telling me repeatedly that all that had to be done was that the lash had to be set. To the machinist?s credit, he offered to take a look at the head and complete it for me. As we both got to talking more, we realized that this head would be better suited as an all out race head, not a daily driven head that can make a 100 mile round trip to work every day. Not that the head can?t handle it, but its just better suited for shorter, all out trips. So I came to the conclusion last night that im just going to ditch the head, and switch over the camshafts and the internals to the 97 head from my old motor. The head itself is a work of art; however it requires just a tad more work possibly, depending on what route you go. I just don?t have the time, or the money anymore to get things where I need them to be. So my loss will be someone else?s gain for sure. Someone that has the time to get it where it needs to be for their needs.

So basically, I felt that I had to share my whole experience with everyone so they can learn from my experience. Find out every detail you can when your buying any built engine part. Be patient. And make sure you get all your facts straight before you plunk down a lot of cash. This is my first time doing an all motor build and I should?ve known better of what I was getting myself into. Unfortunatly, now my trust is really shot. Ive been screwed over roayally in the past with my old rx7 mechanic before i started doing all my own work and now, im kinda sorta feeling like im in the same boat again. Im not even going to bother asking for my cash back because i know that wont happen. Im not bitter, i just want to get my car up and running again and not worrying about something going wrong.

I asked the same question thread over on M.net about switching the internals over to my 97 head and well, Gord on M.net basically summed everything up in the most moderator on m.net way by his post on my thread:

"There are no replacement bearings for the cam journals - if they're scratched up, it's usually because the head was on an engine with the thrust bearing failure, and metal bits got circulated with the oil. Conventional wisdom here is that the head is junk."

Above is the experpts from my thread from CR.net. Amazing how much ive learned mechanically since then. Had I known then what I do now, Im not so sure I wouldve handled it as civil as I did. It really amazes me how nice I was in that whole thread and the shit still got locked.

leatherface24 01-30-2010 10:20 AM

That link doesnt matter. The engine had a thrust bearing failure which in turn f'd up the cams and cam straps. Thats all that thread was about. I wasnt familiar with that 99-00 engine issue back then so I used that thread for referance.

leatherface24 02-02-2010 12:51 PM

so everyone see's, this is what was blammed on Fed Ex:

And my favorite. The nice cam straps are from a toyota that was at that shop. Look at the ones fed ex destroyed:

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...4/DSC00115.jpg

In digging through my old emails, i found this one that I sent to Noah. Again its a shame I was so nice:

"Itried calling you the past few days and left 2 messages with you but I dont know if your phone broke or what but it just goes straight to voice mail.
I spoke to Allen lastnight for about and hour and a half. I know now both sides of the coin. Yours and his and mine now. We both came to the understanding that this head is just not for me. He also mentioned how you just sold the head to me before he got to finish it the way he wanted but you and i already spoke about that. Im not using the head. Im not going to ask you for all the money back because I know it'd probably turn you upside down now financially however I would like about 5 hundred bucks back since seeing how weather you think its the case or not, or weather you knew or not, I bought this thing from you with the false pretense that all that had to be done to it was set the lash. Theres about 500 dollars or more that Id have to dump into this thing to get it to where it should be. Allens a cool and honest guy from wat ive seen. Ive been cool with you also. Ive never lost my cool with you. I dont intend to either. I view you as a friend."

leatherface24 02-02-2010 12:52 PM

He never replied to any of my emails. Wasnt until I made the thread that he came up with his bs blamming fed ex

Braineack 02-02-2010 12:56 PM

rleete 02-03-2010 06:13 PM

As leatherface knows, I was scammed by Noah at roughly the same time. Although it was for much less, it was still money out of my pocket with no parts delivered. We comiserated, and I sent PM to several mods and Tim. All I got was a patronizing PM reply, and no other result. This was when he was selling guage panels. Since I realize he might not have another of the used parts he promised me, I said he could send me a panel, and we'd call it even. No response. He changed his username shortly after that.

I also repeated it when another guy owed me $15. When I sent the PM to him asking for a refund or the parts he promised (top hats), I was rewarded with the guy signing up for donations or something, and I never got another reply. Like a slap in the face. Naturally, there was no action from the mods, except to keep the 15 bucks that should have been sent to me.

Tim is a two-faced prick, and I hope he dies a painful death.

leatherface24 02-03-2010 08:28 PM

Oh snap thats right! I didnt know you contacted Tim about this. I know im not crazy but i mean damn, that two of us that came to Tim about this fag. Im waiting for the greek guy who got ripped off from Noah when he bought Noahs old itb setup and go figure, the were broken and it was the shippers fault...again

miatanutz 02-03-2010 09:41 PM

Meh...I could have told you that place was a douche magnet the first day CR.net went online. The douchbaggery there was immediate. Its a shithole, and always has been.

soflarick 02-03-2010 10:27 PM

Do what I did 15 years ago, gather together the victims, tally a list of parts and money that have been scammed, and bring the information to the district attorney where he lives. Everything can be done via email, phone, and mail. A short list of violations would be mail and wire fraud, and the dollar amount may push it into felony territory.

leatherface24 02-03-2010 10:39 PM

Mine alone pushes into felony territory. Its been almost 3 years though rick so it makes doing this a bit hard

neogenesis2004 02-03-2010 10:49 PM

What is the statute (sp?) of limitations?

soflarick 02-04-2010 12:17 PM

If you want to take advantage of your freedom before it's gone, you can contact the vendors on the site, describe what happened and the site's response and see what they'll do to support you. If it's really that bad, maybe some wouldn't want to be associated with the site. That would pressure the site owner to take some action.

leatherface24 02-04-2010 12:37 PM

Tim hasnt responded back to me in a few days which means hes too busy to or he just doesnt give a shit anymore. Hes the site owner and as you can see, hes never done anything in the past but let this asshole keep selling and promote him to a mod.

soflarick 02-04-2010 01:10 PM

Then go to the vendors advertising on his website, and tell them you're posting on MT as well.

leatherface24 02-04-2010 03:53 PM

talking to Tim right now via I.M.

Reverant 02-04-2010 05:11 PM

FYI I bought my Jenvey ITBs from Noah, and all the (aluminum) air horns were broken. Sure, he can blame USPS or whatever, but the ITBs were wrapped in a fucking BATH TOWEL for fuck's sake. I didn't pay much attention as I never intended to run the ITBs on the horns (I have an FRP plenum from Bill Schenker) but he didn't know that. Anyway, it was entirely his fault since he didn't package it properly.

Jim

leatherface24 02-04-2010 05:18 PM

Yeah the head i bought was horribly packaged with a single towel wraped around the head. Asshole

Braineack 02-04-2010 06:04 PM

When I shipped a head, I wrapped around in bubble wrap tightly, then put it in an oversized box full of peanuts. I take pride in packaging, it shows you care about the product you are shipping. things shipped poorly are useless worthless.

rleete 02-04-2010 08:02 PM

When I bought my SC from myblueC5, he not only used that foam in a bag stuff, he packed the whole thing between old seat cushions. The box could have fallen off a truck on the highway and the parts would have still been okay.

He also shipped the day I emailed him and told him the money orders were on the way, a full 3 days before he got the money. On top of it, when I couldn't find one of the injector connectors, he ordered one from where he originally got them, and had it shipped directly to me. Now that's integrity.

Bond 02-04-2010 08:14 PM

My box showed up with the DP sticking half out of the box lol. Medic.4.life I believe it was.

I bought something recently that was basically a metal cylinder, about 1-2 lbs. It was shipped to me in a USPS envelope (not a box, an envelope). Surprise, the envelope arrived with nothing in it. The cylinder tore right through the envelope during shipping. Amazingly USPS found the missing item when I filed a claim and sent it to me no charge. The seller was a useless POS and did nothing.
