I was taking a friend out for a quick spin in the miata yesterday when the inevitable happened. Buttseks+sandy roads=tree!! We where going around a 90' turn and the ass end came right around. I had the car just about straitened out and !!boom!! hit the toughest little tree ever. The only tree for 50 yards!! This thing is about as big around as a beer can but it f'd my car up!! After we figured out the car still ran, I hauled ass back to the house and got my bikes. We went back to the crash site and noticed there was sand all over the road.:jerkit: Sooooo does anybody have some spare stuff I might need?? Here are some pics of my sorrow.

Ouch!!

wayne_curr 05-16-2009 12:15 AM

You shoulda looked where you wanted the car to go, not at what you didn't want to hit.

BenR 05-16-2009 12:34 AM

That's not so bad. I bet you could pull that out and replace the parts in an afternoon.

curly 05-16-2009 12:54 AM

open hood and take off bumper, re-take pictures. That'll tell us the extent of the damage. And all the parts you'll need. Quite possibly totaled if you bent the frame at all.

The Egyptian's would put a hole in huge blocks of marble, put a stick in the hole, and fill it with water. The resulting expansion of the wood would crack the marble in half. Wood's powerful shit, as evidenced by your kaput car.

Stein 05-16-2009 12:55 AM

I'm surprised that you admitted you were buttsexing and didn't swerve to miss a squirrel or something. Have to give you props for owning up.

georgefury1 05-16-2009 01:02 AM

I wasn't buttsexing! Just driving poorly lol.
I wasn't buttsexing, just making a joke.

TonyV 05-16-2009 01:13 AM

that'll buff right out

magnamx-5 05-16-2009 01:16 AM

new bumper skin and hood and you will prob be ok.

karter74 05-16-2009 01:26 AM

Ran outta talent......

l_bader 05-16-2009 07:43 AM

"Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash!" ;)

Seriously, sorry to hear about the mishap. I nearly did a similar thing in a buddy's Mustang 20 some-odd years ago right after a couple of upgrades. However it wasn't a sapling, but a 3-ft diameter oak we nearly ate...

i wonder how many wrecks are caused by showing someone how fast your car is.... oops.

Joe Perez 05-16-2009 11:33 AM

Yowch. As an insurance claim, that one will probably be [/car].

Candidate for a tube-frame frontend?

Radiator support is gone, and the rad is probably bent if not broken as well.

Its not an easy fix.

magnamx-5 05-16-2009 12:52 PM

i dunno sam im in for non hood pics to see shit does not look to bad realy and even if the rad support is gone that is doable imo

And then what? this seriously sounds interesting lol, go on and finish why they actually did this to blocks of marble

m2cupcar 05-16-2009 12:57 PM

where's the video?

So the aliens could build the pyramids, duh!

Newbsauce 05-16-2009 01:19 PM

Needs more rubber before showing off :) I'm interested in the "hoodless" pics.

zoomin 05-16-2009 02:47 PM

As been said, pull the hood off and the bumper to assess what it actually damaged.

I got the bumper off and it really doesnt look that bad. I hooked a strap around the bumper support and pulled it out with a dodge. The radiator/support is toast, but I think it salvageable!!

Hmm.

Guess my concern would be whether the action of the radiator support collapsing pulled the frame rails (or whatever you cell 'em) inwards as it went.

Apart from that, looks like a cut-n-weld job from a donor car.

hustler 05-16-2009 05:54 PM

I maintain a healthy level of fear with my car. Yes I'm a pussy on the street, but I get to drive it home.

That was my fear too but so far it looks pretty straight. Heres some bumper off pics after i did some tugging on it.

Bang the hood back down, and keep driving.

Did you remove your ABS computer?

curly 05-17-2009 12:35 AM

Did the air bag go off? That's the sensor right there in the front. Looks like a new rad, ac condenser, bumper support, weld in a new cross beam, bumper, hood, and no doubt some other stuff, you've got yourself a hefty bill adding all that stuff up there.

scottv 05-24-2009 09:08 AM

that sucks to hear...I see these fucking people carrying loads of gravel, sand, mulch and bullshit dropping it on the fucking road surface around here. They need to be hunted down and ticketed, this kind of shit could KILL someone on a motorcycle!

FRT_Fun 05-24-2009 11:13 AM

pics of the tree?

nm should have let the pictures finish loading... that is not nearly as much damage on the tree as I was hoping.

hamburger1971 05-24-2009 08:32 PM

Something similar happened to my car, and the radiator support pulled on the frame rails and bent them. Toasted the car for insurance, otherwise it sure looked like a bumper cover, hood, radiator, and pull out the radiator support. F'in frame rails.

Vovchandr 05-25-2009 12:52 AM

That's unfortunate, but at least you've had control over the situation (or lack off), it's the worst when it's induced by another party.

The scariest thing....to me....was the fear of getting smacked in the face with the air bag!! As for the ABS ECU, Its still in tact. I was just glad my passenger and I where ok. This crash has just given me more time to ride my new bike.

Trees are much tougher than they look, unfortunately.
That's a sick bike though.
