Wow that is too manly for me. I went to a local barber this morning and they said they weren't permitted to sell razors legally, so I just bid on the item chicksdigmiatas posted and won it for $36. Considering a pack of Gillette razors costs $20 and you'd be lucky to get 6mo out of them, I think it's not a bad price for something that should last a generation or two, assuming I am able to get good at it.

I rarely ever go clean-shaven (seriously, once in the last 3 years), but I like using a safety razor when I do. Much better shave than whatever Shick or Gillette bits of plastic they are selling now. Merkur HD safety razor, Proraso Italian menthol shaving cream, a good shaving brush, and some Feather blades...that's a great shave.

A meat cleaver will do nicely for this task.

How the hell do you get away with changing once a month? Is your facial hair as thin as your pubic hair? If I'm not changing my blade at least every week and a half, I'm not shaving so much as ripping the hairs out. By week 2, I would probably do better by shaving with a rock...

I haven't shaved in a year. Only trim with some clippers every week. Then again, I don't have a job that requires a shaved face.

I'm cheap, and those blade cartridges aren't. Yes, it's getting a bit rough by the time I change them. Probably closer to 3 weeks max; I change it when it starts to pull.

My Dad shaves with a straight razor every day and swears by it. I've done it a couple times and I can say that the shave you get is second to none.

The trick is to always go with the grain of your hair. It takes a bit of experimenting/looking to figure out which ways the grain goes, but once you do it's nice. Say good bye to in grown hairs and other issues.

Edit: I'll see if I can find out what brand of stuff he uses, but it's all old school. He bought his setup in the 50's and has since only replaced the brush but those aren't so crucial, any beauty supply store will have one that works.

I hate muisicals, but did anyone ever see the "Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of fleet street?" That was a great flick.
