Daewoo is one of the largest companies in Korea.

They may not make any cars for THIS market, but they still make a shitload of cars in Korea and have for quite some time. Hyundai is still bigger though.

Yeah I'm sure it is. Asians are very name brand conscious in the a way. They like *everything* they buy to be branded the same. Westerners are very different in that aspect.

As far as large companies being diverse in the products and services they offer, that's just big business. The Mitsubishi that makes cars has nothing to do with the Mitsu that makes tvs, the Mits that makes hvac systems, the Mits that cans tuna, the mits that makes dvd players (I mean buys them from Toshiba and rebages them) etc. They're just owned by the same holdings company/investors and all work under the same name. In reality, they have nothing to do with each other.

actually ben, it reflects back to the chaebol and zaibatsu business practices in Korea and Japan respectively.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaibatsu

GM Daewoo, as the company is now called is owned by GM, and South Korea's 2nd largest automotive company.

:gay: hahaha that's what all the teachers, administrators, cops, and employers I've ever had have asked.

For real, I work with a lot of Japanese vendors in my line of work... One of them being Mitsubishi. I did a lot of business with Yamaha in the past. Even though I moved a pretty high volume of Yamaha a/v gear, they wouldn't offer me any discount on a motorcycle. I don't carry Yamaha any longer, but for other reasons.

I've been and driven a few daewoos back when they were sold and I thought they were pretty decent, esp. for the price. Nowadays you can't find any replacement parts.

The new Suzuki Reno is a daewoo lanos. I love hatchbacks and I think they look pretty good lowered with a 17" wheel. No power and bad fuel economy though, so I doubt the Reno will last, especially since suzuki has 2 other econoboxes in the same class that outperform it.

Daewoo also makes heavey construction equipment, cranes, etc.

IIRC daewoo has an agreement with GM. The 80's lemans was a daewoo and up until their quick flash of mediocrity in the US were forbidden by that agreement to sell cars here, don't know their current status.
