God... how is 15 year olds even.. like.. sexually appealing once you're 23 and hitting strip clubs and stuff? Not to mention play-doh inspiringly fat.

Probably 14 at time of conception. No mention of who father was at the time... wasn't same guy.

Dont get me wrong, I understand that as well. but the fact that she hadnt learned her lesson at 15... or at 17... and then at 20?

I was trying to be optimistic and hope that the 17 year old was from another mother, but I guess I cant assume that these days anymore

What knowledge is gained by watching movies? We have had those for over 100 years. How about going out to clubs? Destroy your liver, have bad sex with a diseased whore, lose your hearing. Nothing spreads ignorance better than two half-wits fucking in a club bathroom.

Sorry, every generation thinks the next is going to be the end of the world. I continue not to believe it.

My view on this is simple. We are attracted to violence. This has always been the case, especially for people who haven't experienced violence first hand (I've had my fair share of violence, but I still find it entertaining.. then again, I'm not exactly normal). Gladiatorial combat in it's essence appeals to our nature for competition. We love competitive entertainment. We could be in highschool and watch the local emo kids fight the goth kids about who's more individualistic or secular or socially radical or whatever. Competition is entertainment. Violent competition isn't something I can discuss well over because I'm desensitized. I don't have kids, and I don't regularly see how children behave when they have constant exposure to that sort of entertainment.

Now as for this Honey Boo Boo nonsense. I can't see what this appeals to. Maybe it's on the same basis of Jersey Shore, that it's shallow drama. People need to fulfill a lack of interest in their lives to watch these incredibly horrible shows. I don't know. But it isn't interesting to watch either of them, and I've seen a couple episodes of each, with an open mind. And the only "hook" I can determine from this muck is it's blatant stupidity. I think people now are drawn to insanely outrageous stupidity. And people's reckless abandonment for self worth. We like to watch things get destroyed... Watching these people do this is just that, but in a totally strange, off putting, and moronic way.

I say Violence > Retard Contest... hands down, every damn day.

thenuge26 10-19-2012 03:13 PM

Well, as a society we have "grown up" in that stupid drama has replaced violence.

The point is that this isn't any different. Some dumb rednecks watch WWE, but I know some really really smart people who also watch every second of ridiculous Pay Per View wrestling (despite not having the money to). I am sure there are some really smart people who can't get enough of Jersey Shore. There may even be smart people on this website which to outsiders looks like the Mos Eisley Spaceport of car forums. :jerkit:

Who gives a shit what people do in there free time. They have done retarded things before, they are doing retarded things now, and they will continue to do retarded things in the future. And yet our society progresses at the same (or faster) rate as it has all along.

And Rome is where now?

Rome's fascination with blood sport has nothing to do with it's arrogance in dealing with barbarians.

Much like what is happening here, the economic and military blunders that brought down Rome were allowed to happen by a distracted proletariat.

Also, the two had quite a lot in common. Not only were most of the staged battles made to mimic previous real battles (glorifying and re-writing history), but I'm sure it also helped dull what might have been outrage among the general public to reports of how their soldiers treated the barbarians. Or vice versa.

Braineack 10-19-2012 04:03 PM

I heard Nero liked Rome.

I refuse to accept your logical and factual statement.
I will continue to eat nutella and spew my own logic reasoning. Hoping to establish myself as "smart"

I think militarily, we're on a totally different level. Our military is almost literally it's own world, it's own country, it's own government. For Christs sake it has it's own legal system.

The fall of Rome was due to size, negligence of treaties, and brutal treatment of neighboring countries. The US isn't exactly treating everyone like dirt. Maybe the middle eastern countries with it's shitty Israel alliance. But maltreatment is pretty much just in our combat zone. Our neighboring countries are both on somewhat good terms (Mexico is iffy, but we pour a fuckload of money into them, and government wise, we're both on good terms). I don't see us going down on any military angle. If anything, our economy would implode, which wasn't the problem Rome suffered.

On a basic basic basic level, yes, we are going down the path of Rome. We will eventually fall. But when you dig a little deeper, we are in a battle with our own culture. Our own society is what will bring this country crumbling down.

Feel free to effectively bankrupt my statement with more truths. This is getting interesting

gospeed81 10-19-2012 06:35 PM

I'll be back on Monday to continue this, but in a way we've squared the same circle. The corollaries between us and Rome are slim, and we really are just fighting ourselves, which I think was the original point. I sidetracked it due to lack of time to properly rebut thenuge earlier.

Have a great weekend.
