It is decided.

As soon as we get the wife's 2010 Mazda 3 sold, I'll be ditching the NC to get a BRZ.

I'm hoping we can sell her car in time for me to grab the "Series.Blue" in white that's currently on the lot.

If it get's sold, then I'll likely order one with all the exact stuff I want.

My 1/2 whine just as much on accel, 3rd a little less.
On decel though, mine make even more noise.
The other day I opened my Exedy stg1 box, and noticed a paper with a huge WARNING! on there, with something along the lines of: "please inform vehicle operator that due to different non-silent design of this performance clutch, drivetrain noise will increase, it is normal" or something like that. Guess I didn't see it before.

When engine braking, mine sounds like something is grinding/rattling in every gear. Freaked me out like crazy, until I saw that warning, and also read like 5 billion threads of others reporting the same, many even on the stock clutch or replacement stock clutch. Apparently these LGT based 5 speeds are really loose, and that is considered "normal".

My 5 speed has been making worse and worse noise. It doesnt sound like a tranny noise but I've literally isolated everything else. I have 4 quarts of smurfs blood to go in the tranny to see if the problem is that the current smurfs blood is like 50k miles old and or see if bits and pieces come out in the drain. If bits and pieces come out and its not bad I'll probably drive dad's miata the rest of the summer then nurse the wrx through the winter and figure something out next summer. Either another 5 speed or put all the stock parts back on and trade it in/carmax it.

You have one of the "glass box" years, so good luck.

I thought 06 was the first year of the less-glass box. Even if its the same, I have the higher final drive than the earlier years so it puts less stress on the tranny.

Well 02 and half of 03 was the real "glass box". 04-05 is usually fine. 06-07 they improved it a bit more, but with the uber low fd and extra torque from the ej255, the modded ones tend to take out 3rd gear. My 07 shaved off 3rd at 360tq, and my 06 shaved it off at 320tq. Most of them hold up fine at stock power or just stg2, but who knows.

Mine has the noise loudest in 5th. But I'm close to your 06 number since this tune put down 310/240 on a mustang dyno, ******* stupid td04 numbers.

i think i did 300/240 on virtual dyno. lol

5th has a very faint high-pitched whine that requires a little radio to drown it out on a highway cruise. Wife only complains about that one.

Mines a yucky pulsing whirr/whine. I originally thought it was a wheel bearing or broken belt in the tire. It gets louder if you cup your hand on the shifter or push harder in the 5th gear direction. Doesnt matter the gear or clutch in or out, goes by speed. Only started recently maybe the fluid is just wearing out and making more gear noises and they're not being covered up by the stock flywheel weight anymore.

Weird, my 4th/5th is silent on accel.

Whats funny is I installed a ton of GR/GV clutches this past year, and never even noticed it because they were all running exhuast. Since mine is stock exhaust right now, its the 1st time I can hear it. And it freaks me out, even though I know it should be fine.

it's very very very faint, but it's very high pitched. It's really only heard in sustained cruise on the highway. it's louder if I press the shifter further into gear.

not a big deal, i just turn up the radio to like 2 or roll down the windows.

Excedy stage 1. The stock clutch wast slipping in 3rd in the wet or 4th in the dry.

if it doesn't matter clutch in/out, then it might be a diff or bearing

Oo! I'm learning!

What is this "smurfs blood" you speak of? Is there some reason I should start juicing smurfs (that seems rather Gargamel) rather than just fill the trans with AMSOIL MTG 75w90?

Also V, did you do the trans oil in the 04 at some point? So far I think I've done every other nominal maintenance item in the car just to get a baseline. That's the only one remaining. I even bought a torx 70 socket or whatever godawful random size that plug happens to be.
