Yes the horizontally opposed cylinders with huge bores and fragile/thin ringlands are really knock prone and relatively fragile, and when you run garbage CA91 it's not happy at all. I tried 10.9 and didn't make any more power, so I backed it down. I was still very impressed with the power and torque it made, because VF turbo subaru's around here very rarely make over 315whp and about 330wtq. My guess is the header is contributing to the added torque.

E85 is when you can actually start to push it

For now, yes. I've had pretty decent luck up to about 400whp on nicely treated street cars on corn, and don't see myself needing more any time soon.

18psi also had a 300hp Miata on stock internals and a 5 speed. He has more mechanical empathy in his little finger than most of you have in your whole bodies.

Subaru rubber time!

TireRack has the Hankook VENTUS V12 EVO2 in OEM sized 205/55R16 for $92.85/ea, and $100 rebate when you buy 4, so that puts me at $271.40 for a set. It's a 320TW tire so it's not going to last forever, but I'm definitely buying to a price point here.

They also have the VENTUS S1 NOBLE2 in the same size for $93.85 w/$80 rebate, so that still comes in under $300 @ $295.40. The big difference is this one is a 500TW so I'll probably get more life out of them, at the cost of ultimate traction.

Both are fairly close with regards to wet/dry traction and noise, so if anyone has any direct experience with these two tires, or can recommend something similar to thes at this price point, I'd love to hear about it.

For reference I'm coming from oversized BFG Comp2s

v12s are pretty crappy. Really liked the GT Radial UHP1s, seemed pretty magical. But good bit of road noise. Good rain grip and felt safe down to 20°F.

Can't seem to find these listed in 205/55R16? Maybe I'm more 'tarded than usual?

That also seems cool.

If not available in my size then probably not a contender :/ Thanks for playing though

They run wide, like 200tw tires so the 195 is probably the same mounted width as a 205 v12.

I've had a couple sets of Ventus V12s on various cars. You won't confuse them with tw200 autox cheater tires, but they don't completely suck. For the price they aren't too bad.

I've had good experiences in the past with those, and for that price I would find them tough to refuse. At least to me, was fairly close to the old Continental Extreme Contact tires.

You haven't switched from dreaming of every car under the sun to every other car, there's still a handful to go

To be fair, there are some that aren't even under consideration.

And there's also part of me that says, "BRZ effectively doesn't have a powertrain warranty on it anymore. Do everything to get it track ready and go."

And at this point that would mean, fresh fluids throughout, install the Jackson Racing dual cooler in the garage along with the Winmax W5 pads in the garage as well. And go at the end of the month.

I actually lust after a brz every other day. I don't know why, I just find them really neat.

Then I remind myself how gutless and unpleasant it was in a straight line, and move on.

If I had lots of free time and energy to invest into a project like that, I'd actually try to mate the wrx bottom mount setup to it. Or go the tried AVO route.

Actually just a few weeks ago there was a clean looking brz with avo setup and lots of other mods in the bay area listed for 23k. I'd want something spooley like a 6258 on it though
