I was under the impression the 09 had changes to improve the flaws of the new '08 design: a larger turbo and then the suspension from the '08 sti.

 

flaws with engine.
like spun bearings, broken ring lands (stock tune), and other crap.

basically quality control and material stuff. 08 and early 09 engines were failing left and right.

the turbo and suspension were upgrades, not revisions of flaws.

 

Suggestions for older wagon in $3k range? Uses will be: dirt and gravel roads to go mountain biking and occasional gravel road hoonage. Occasional DD action and grocery getting is not out of the option if it rides nice enough.
Slow is ok, as long as it has a third pedal. Reliablilty is more important.

 

most the gc/gf imprezas/outbacks/legacy's/foresters will fit that bill. most of them will require quite a bit of maint, and will nickle and dime you until you get them up to snuff maint wise

I LOVE my forester, if you get one make sure to grab an S package though with the LSD center/rear diffs. Makes for a car that wants to slide on any slippery surface, i always toss mine sideways down the S turns on my dirt road.. I'm sure my neighbors love me. Mine with the 07 motor in it is about as fast as my 94 teg LS, and has a 5 speed for mad fun. It's a torquey SOB and i don't really flog on it except for dirt road hoonage (it's just not "fast" at all on the pavement, WOT down a dirt road is pretty exciting though).

I think the quality control is so great here is because the moderators are not spread too thin. The more content you add the harder it is to oversee all of it.

Subarus have so many different revisions of models and engines that the forums(NASIOC for example) are HUGE. We have...Miatas; NA/NB/NC.

i keep forgetting this is not a miata.

My driver front was showing wear on the outside, so I was assuming it was a toe issue. I want to get it done just for peace of mind now that I'm on new tires. but looks like the best I can really hope for is -0.5 - -0.9 or so, and if you push it, you're taking a hit on toe (otherwise not adjustable it seems).

Caster doesn't seem to be adjustable as well. God I might as well just do this alignment myself with string and maths and smart phone apps.

no, the rear driver tire showed the same wear before i bought the car, and then the driver wore down in the same manner after i drove it for another year.

I assuming that rear tire was on the front originally and he rotated it to the rear in order to stop it from wearing down further.

I do whatever I can NOT to scrub the front tires anyways since the car will inhibit tons of understeer into a corner...I do love to drift around corners in the rain/snow however.

I'll jsut see if they can get me at least -0.5 in the front and keep 0 toe. I would probably prefer -1.5 in the front with the unadjustable -1.0 in the rear to reduce understeer further.

 

Am i the only one who is booty tickled about the '15 WRX having equal length headers and therefore no subaru rumble?

That's one of my favorite things about these cars. At least the STI is keeping it (I think)

And yes I'm aware of the drawbacks to UEL's. I'm still sad about it though.

 

I recently took ownership of my brother's 02 bugeye and I want to finish it for him. He always talked about wheels/tires/suspension so I am researching Tokico D spec struts. Anyone running them and can comment on their ability to use as a DD?

 

I've installed them into an 02 before, along with RCE springs (I think "blacks"). Guy was very happy with them afterwards.
I'm 50/50 on it, but yeah I can see a lot of subaru guys complaining about it in the future, even though its actually a BETTER thing.

 

who'd want better spool on a wrx? the point is that it's gutless below 3K then kicks your *** by 4K.
