Hey, that's one of those savannah cats Brain mentioned. They look cool.
|
as a matter of fact that's Bengal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengal_cat
|
I'm trying to find a savannah. Anyone have any advise or experience on this particular breed.
|
While having a special breed could be cool, I think it's better to go to the local rescue place and find one that like you. I've always done that, and never had any behavor problems or health issues.
|
The best pets ALWAYS come from the shelter, and they're usually mutts/ mixed breeds. We've probably has 10 shelter dogs over the years, and only one of them was a problem. She had some pretty serious separation anxiety, but we would probably still have her, except that she liked herd the neighbors out of the yard, and it was just a matter of time until she nipped at a child and we had to put her down.

There's a local breeder here in town actually and the reject kittens go for a good price (reject meaning not good enough to show). But, as much as a I want a pure bred, I plan on rescusing the cats no one wants. Lol, I have 99 pictures of my cats uploaded on my facebook page. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328717657 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328717657 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328717657 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328717657 http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2419202_n.jpg |

Don't get me wrong, I adopted a dog from the shelter, and she has turned out to be a great dog.I will probably be getting another one. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328718998 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328718998 As far as a cat, I know what I want. I never really planned on getting a cat until I saw the Savannah. |

That said I've seen that I like male cats better in general because the ones I've met play more rather than just sitting. My aunt did have a male that was a complete jackass though, he would bug you to pet him then bite and run away when he'd had enough. Female cats do tend to be more affectionate in my experience, if that's what you're after. |

Honestly, I like the bengals more than savannahs looks wise. Keep in mind that I have not seen a savannah in person, but I have seen bengals before.

Bengals look cool, but Savannahs are as big as a horse. You know what other "wild" breed is cool? The Toyger.
They are bread(sp?) to look like tigers: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328726285 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328726381 http://www.toyger-cat.com/images/mak...toyger_cat.jpg |
I really want one of these floppity flops:

I haven't had a cat in years now. My dog is not really cat friendly. The last one I had went with my roommate when he moved out. Kittie (her real name) bonded with him, and stayed in his room at night. I didn't think it would be right to seperate them. I miss that old Kittie, she had a personality like no other. She is still kicking and biting peoples toes to this day. |

I'd love a savannah, but he'd probably eat my cat. They're also like 5k for a kitten :(
-edit: YT link didn't work. Tried posting from my phone, nevermind. |

baby bengal's
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1329140842 Come on, Why wouldn't you want one? |
Both are crossed with a wild cat; the Savannah being crossed with a Serval and the Bengal with a Leapord Cat.
I just think since the Savannah comes from the Serval, is has that distinctive slender wild cat appearance, where the Bengals tend to look like a typical shorthair with jaguar-like patterns. I'm more of a sucker for cheetahs than jaguars, so I lean towards the Savannah :) |
I don't think it's really attributed to the sex, but in my experience, male cats have been better pets. By better, I mean more fun, friendly and outgoing. Every female cat I have had has been less friendly and sort of anti social and snobby acting. My last female cat would hardly ever have much to do with me other than meow at me when she was hungry, then she was off again. My last male cat was awesome, as he would always see me on the couch and would jump up and sit next to me and watch TV, or would sit next to my keyboard while I was on the computer, and would come in my room in the mornings and lay on my chest and pur until I woke up.

lol @ people even considering a cat from a breeder. I have 5 of 9 left that need a home, bad. Street kitties are so much better than a cat without a story. I am hunted, daily; you don't get that with a kitty factory cat.
|
Yeah but you dont find Turkish Angoras or Maine Coons on the street.

I already rescued two kitties, I'll definitely get more in a few years. |
my mom always picked the runt of the litter from shelters. they always turned out to be great cats, one lived to be 16, the other 21, and our current os 12 and as healthy as the day we got her.

We have two males. Bentley (above), gets in trouble a lot like his daddy. Hemi (our two year old and no I had nothing to do with the fact that both are car related names), is the snuggler/lap cat. Bentley is too busy getting into stuffs. |

I doubt I'll "find" a Bengal cat in a shelter or adoption agency though. |
I find it fitting that one of my most active threads ever on this forum is about cats, with a misleading title about sexual orientation.
Sadly, my roommate is not giving in on letting me have a cat. Stupid allergies. I guess she had it tested a couple months ago and cat allergy came back as "extreme". |
I was tested extreme for cat allergies, and about 100 other things I've never once had a reaction to.

did you know it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between a rabbit and cat skeleton if it wasn't for the tail.
|
i did not know that. clearly a good option for him, then.
|
see all my useless knowledge comes in handy.

no some other bone that i forget, something in the leg/foot or something; the extra hinge for the cat's paw. Maybe I shouldnt have said nearly impossible, more like they are very similar.

I'll be up front and confess to being "a dog person" but I like animals and if a cat comes up to me I'm happy to pet it or let it doze on my lap.
I did some work in Montreal and one of the guys I worked with, Brian, invited me to a home cooked meal with his fiance and her young daughter. Brian warned that their male cat hated all males and that it was spayed not long after he started seeing his fiance to make it less aggressive (it was also the dominant cat in the neighbourhood and always getting into fights). Almost as soon as I took my shoes off inside the house, the cat ran straight for me and started clawing at my feet, through my socks - it new where I was vulnerable. I swept the cat as hard as I could across the wooden floorboards with my right foot that it was locked onto; it slid across the floor into the wall, "squawked" and ran off to the basement. Brian just said "Told ya!" and had a big goofy smile on his face. Later in the evening, Brian's fiance asked him if he'd let the cat out when we came in and Brian just said that it took one look at me, freaked out and ran off to the basement. I certainly wasn't going to tell her what happened in case she thought I'd actually kicked the cat. That cat was pyscho, or was it just following basic instincts, trying to keep it's "harem"? |
Is neither
Cats are in a complete different frequency, is difficult to explain. I have owned both, dogs and cats, and they are so much more connected once they let you be part of their world. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...cb3a88f111.jpg |
My girl Chihuahua is transpecies. She's a shop dog who identifies herself as a cat. She's a mean little bitch.
