Do you like boys or girls better?
I want a cat. I can't have one right now because my roommate thinks she is allergic to cats (but not dogs, go figure), but I'm going to get a cat as soon as I can. Are boy cats or girl cats better, or does it matter? I have heard boy cats like to spray, even after they are fixed, but that they are more social especially as indoor cats.
So, do you like boy cats or girl cats better? |
girl cats are better.
they are sweeter and cleaner. But boy cats lend to better names. |
I like girl cats because I'm not trying to snuggle up with a dude.

Haven't seen it really matter so long as they are fixed. Just don't get two girls together...then you will really have a catfight.
|
I recommend you get a liger.
|
Savannah.
Or a big fluffly cat--like a ragamuffin or hymalayan or turkish angora. or get a russian blue so you can pretend he's the can i haz a cheezburger cat. |

growing up i always had female cats.
when i got my own place, i got a male cat first who never sprayed. then a female cat, they played and fought and cuddled together. all was well. then i got another male cat, no spraying. then i got a male kitten, no spraying. the female beats to her own drum and the three male cats are often snuggling/cuddling with each other. sometimes, the female gets in on the cuddles. Attachment 240100 never any spraying they're all fixed |
Snuggle party!
|
Brain, when you say they are "sweeter and cleaner", what does that mean? My limited experience with other people's cats is that females are less tolerant of being picked up and held, while males are more easy-going.
|
my girl cat acts like a little lady, my boy cat acts like a horny hellraiser.

i don't think behavior and attitude have much to do with the cats' sex...
some are mean, some are nice, some are cuddly, some are loners. i have three gay male cats and one black bitch |
stray kitties make the best pets because they are fun and I think the appreciate you for taking them in. I was taking care of nine, but it looks like they are all gone but one. I may need to capture her and take her home...but there's a problem. I think this stray is my cat's mom because they have the same fur feel and similar facial structures. My cat's name is "Polly", this cat's name is "Polly-mamma". That could be confusing.
|
1.) Cats are retarded. Dogs are MUCH better pets. End of discussion.
2.) How have we gone this far without a demand for pics of the room mate? You guys are slacking SO hard... |

So in the end, gender doesn't matter a whole lot, cats are awesome, dogs are also awesome but you can't leave them alone for as long.
My roommate already has a dog, and my lifestyle doesn't lend itself well to a dog just yet. I have also never owned an animal, so I think a cat is a good first step. Now if I could just convince the roommate that she isn't allergic to cats... |

How long would you leave your pet alone? We crate our dog for 14 hours at a time when my gf and I both work 12s. Thankfully we don't do that too often, but if they're crate trained from a puppy they like it. Our dog will nap in his crate if I leave the garage open.

I've left my cats alone for 4 days. that's about the max I'd feel comfortable with--they are dumb and would forget to eat.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328549148 I dont have a tubcat pose. |

I used to leave my cat at home all week while I worked out of town. Dad would show up every 2 days to refill the food and water dishes, and scoop the liter. I hated it, but it didn't seem to faze the cat. All my cats have been let outdoors whenever they want, but are kept indoors overnight. All have reached at least 17 years old. Last old one was nearly 20, and she was one tough old broad.
To the OP: I've usually had male cats (always fixed) but the one female I had acted no differently from the males, except to be a little more of a loner. None sprayed except the female, but that was health issues. Once that was taken care of, no more problems. |

Like somebody said, get a stray. It will appreciate it's new home. American shorthairs are generally more active, going into "attack cat" mode and "hunting" things like you, bugs, anything small enough to be batted around. Dogs are cool to. but only if they put up with the cat.
If the cat is going to be left alone a lot, get 2, they will entertain each other. |
agreed...definitely get two cats!

Girls. She's the sweetest cat evar and doesn't hiss or growl at anything. All the male cats I've seen usually aren't as cuddly or sweet.

You guys are really going to make fun of the GF and I when we have 10 house cats. No, seriously, 10, in one house, and a litter room, lol.
|
We'll see you on an episode of "Confessions: Animal Hoarding". Your cats will be showing you how to drive your racecar moar faster.
|
Two cats MINIMUM is a must. And I've left mine alone for 4-5 days with someone to check on them every 2 days or so. Trust me they don't get bored if there are two of them.

I'm sure his 10 are happy and living...it's when they start multiplying and finding dead carcasses in your attic is when you start to have issues. im in a 600sq ft place with two... and it's too much. waiting for new house before I get my third. Hopefully it's 3 legged or 1 eyed or something. |
My cat doesn't meow or hiss, she has more of a ... SIGH sound. If I shut my bedroom door she'll want in and make noise outside the door. Damn cat always gets her way too.

MY evil cat, she tries to bite anyone that comes in the house but the family. still acts like a kitten even though she is nearing 12 years old
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328587029 and she beats the ---- out of the dog, when they are in the same room. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328587029 |
My sister has a little persian street kitty who dominates the two 85lb labs. That little dude runs the house. I like it most when he lies on his back and antagonizes the dogs. That little dude is ganxter.
