You'd actually be really surprised. SLC has a pretty high gay population, I mean it's no San Francisco, but there's a lot more than you'd think.
People probably won't have much if any reaction to living with someone either--but you'd run into a random few pious people that would.
I guess it's just the classic issue with any ideology, it's open to interpretation. There are lots of people who are really pretty normal and then you've got your crazies that make you wonder how on earth they arrived at the conclusions they've got. I guess it's sort of like Islam, not all Muslims are bad people or even very different from anybody else, but the extremist few make such a mark you can't shake it. Especially if that's your only interaction with the group.
