Nothing here in Michigan at all. Exhaust shops around here actually remove your cat when they replace your exhaust because it's cheaper.

Sam, did you hear that in 09, all of wisconsin is going to only sniffing 96+? Im sure you dont have emissions up by you anyways, but I have it down here so I cant wait.. No more lieing and telling them my car is stored up north!

I heard they were discussing it, since they found out emissions testing doesn't really make a difference in pollution and is basically a huge waste of money. My car is registered at home which is Washington Co, so I still get tested, but I still pass anyways, just can't get a standalone ecu.

You know you can just make a phone call and never have to get your car sniffed again? PM me if you want more details, I did it for my seven and now have to do it for the Miata. All it takes is 5min on the phone with a DMV :)

Well, I think there is only one place which is worse - Germany. We have got the TUEV - the technical approval institution - every part changed on the car has to be approved by the TUEV. Helps with the safety of the cars but makes tuning very difficult. Also the emission test. No too loud exhausts, a lot of German smog laws...

We are always looking envious over to the US...

From what I hear Hawaii may be the worst place to live if you mod a car. I heard something about having to get your WHEELS approved. LAME. ORegon isn't too bad if you're pre-obdII

TeamPLUR 11-13-2007 01:32 AM

aah homestate california, the smog nazi of the country, my Audi turbo project is SUPER illegal by cali's standards, which irritates me to no end, given the fact that i make less emissions with it turbocharged, then before. but if they catch me, theyll take my car and crush it, gotta love it!
i love how theyre always trying to protect us from ourselfs.

Yeah, pretty much anything that you do to your car has to get approved. If the car is not stock, you have to get a reonstruction permit, in which they pretty much try and ass rape you to get the permit. After that, you have to go back and get a safety inspection.

obd2 cars just get the plug, obd1 gets a sniffer.

Amazingly, we've got it good in that regard here in CA.

I mean, our smog inspection sucks. You practically have to provide CARB paperwork if you have so much as an aftermarket air freshener hanging from your mirror, then get onto the dyno and prove that the only things coming out of your tailpipe are Marxist idealism and cute baby foxes, but safety inspection? No such thing. They don't care if you've got one headlight and no windshield so long as you pay your registration fee and pass your autoprotological exam.

I don't need the help but you got me curious. Tell us the details in here!

Saml01 11-14-2007 01:42 PM

I am curious about these details as well.

In NY I used to have a hookup that passed my cars without evening hooking them up the computer or running them on their sniff machine. Now though, things have changed and the guy says he cant do it anymore. But as long as I dont throw and CEL's I should be fine.

Yes, because cops are not car guys too. I bet 2/3 cops could tell the difference between a blower and a turbo.

mazda/nissan 11-14-2007 03:50 PM

get some greddy stickers

Pitlab77 11-17-2007 12:50 PM

texas sucks @ss that is all

mtncrvr 11-17-2007 06:35 PM

Pre OBD2 no prob, modded and won't pass normally np = 60$, 30 for the inspection and 30$ to the dude giving the inspection no questions asked.. Now w/OBD2 = lame (still doable but more hassle) and they don't care whats under the hood as long as it passes OBD2 computer inspection. Country shops are a gold mine for inspections.
