People want to drift at sanctioned events, the track, or an empty parking lot then fine with me, but stay the **** off the road.

Today, I was in the left lane of a three lane interstate today doing 70+ in a 65 zone when some ******** in a nissan 240 comes drifting up an on-ramp, loses control, and spins out across a three lane interstate missing my car by maybe an inch. If I didn't have somewhere to be, I would have pulled over and beat him senseless for putting my life at risk. If I left my house 2 seconds earlier, I'm sure they would have been cutting me out of my car. Rant over.

 

What kind of look did these "pro drifters" have on their faces as they spun across the freeway?

At least you didn't get hit.

 

i've had some close calls myself, mostly when on 2 wheels though, and i always get that mad reaction too, but the good thing is you're ok

Some guy stopped in the middle of an on ramp around a blind corner in front of me this evening. I came around the turn, accelerating to merge, and I see a Ford Explorer stopped right in the middle of the road. I managed to get into the shoulder instead of deep in his bumper, stopped, and went back to see if he needed car help (and to cuss him out if not). Turned out he had just "stopped to send a text before getting on the highway." Fuckface.

Drifting on the streets is pretty dumb. Drifting when there's traffic around even more dumb. Drifting anywhere on or near highways = dumbass ****.

Any time I'm doing anything on the streets I take mind to cool it before heading onto the highways.

Media, PA huh? I didn't know they did "drifting" in PA, especially on public roads. Isn't the word "drifting" defined as "I have watched Fast and Furious 3 and played Play Station WAY TOO MUCH, so watch me slide the back end of my car into a turn and think I have control over it." I never understood that sport, if you wanna call it a sport. I mean I love watching someone roast their tires off into a "dude where's my car" smoke plume, but as far as drifting...why do we make traction devices and tires that are sticky? AutoCross, yes...drag racing, yes, drifting, sorry..who gives a ****.

 

It was a light green 240 driven by a kid. This was on I-295 in south NJ so not in PA. FWIW, I-295 is a 3 lane each way busy highway.

PA is notorious for uber drifting. The biggest problem on the streets today is Amish Drifters. They have no regard for people's safety when wagon drifting.

Actually there are quite a few good drifters in PA.

As per your comment ThirdGen didn't it occur to you that there was something around before F&F 3 or before all sorts of games picked up "drifting" as way around a turn? It seems a little much these days with things like Mario Kart having drifting. I mean, it used to be that I had to explain to people what it meant, or why it was different. Now they are like "oh yeah that". I'm gonna go out on a limb and say most people who hear the term drifting still don't understand what it involves or work required.

Good drifting also requires sticky tires and suspension setups that aim for more traction than less. Even alignment settings that seem really weird to try and maximize mechanical grip. (omg...that means...no negative camber?? )

Funny, I was gonna post something similar myself. I saw an accident in my rearview mirror last night, right behind me...it was kind of scary as I was almost in it.
I-85 northbound, right after you pass I-77 for those familiar with the area. I-85 is about 5 lanes wide at this point and I was in the second right lane. Cars in front of me started slowing down to like low 50ish and I had to slow down too, due to merging traffic from I-77 (which wasn't bad at 10PM), but I decided to merge into the middle lane and got back up to speed, soon as i look up into my rear view after I passed the car that was in front of me by like 3 car lengths, I see this Chevy Truck/SUV thing (Avalanche? is that what they are called) go from the far right lane all the way across all 5 lanes and into the divider wall head on. The scary part, he went acorss the lanes but just behind the car that used to be in front of me, that means I would have gotten plowed over if I stayed there behind that car and the other slow traffic. I had my ex in the pax seat too, that would have sucked really bad. Not sure what caused him/her to lose traction, there was no rain, and traffic was relatively slow, I think he/she was coming down the on-ramp too fast and tried to merge over while going too fast, not sure, didn't see what exactly happened just saw the thing flying across all 5 lanes
