Thank you for posting those plots :)

magnamx-5 Sep 27, 2006 12:41 AM

maybe it is the IC's my torque began to fall from paeck at 5600-5700 rpm on my last run of 8-9psi.

bripab007 Sep 27, 2006 07:58 AM

Considering that's exactly what we're seeing in these dyno plots, I'd have to say the intercooler/no-intercooler obviously makes no difference.

Olderguy's torque drops so quickly due to the drop in boost at higher RPM.

Looks like the $$$ vs. gains for custom cams would not be worth it unless you were shooting for north of 275-300hp. I guess adjustable cam gears would work for minor changes, but really would just shift the curve.

Too bad our cars use a CAS attached to the intake cam or we could try the exhaust cam replacing the intake cam (more lift and duration than intake cam) as a few have tried.

magnamx-5 Sep 27, 2006 11:03 AM

What would stop us from ussing a exhaust cam from a 1.8 then?

Nothing more than the willingness to try it. See thread below:

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=180758

For even more info do a search in the power mods of m.net for exhintake.

TurboTim Sep 27, 2006 11:46 AM

I wonder how much gain the exhintake mod would give on a turbo car. I haven't done much research on it yet. Has anyone?

I haven't found anyone that has tried this on a turbo car despite some serious searching. Seems to work well NA, but it could be counterproductive with a turbo if it overlaps with the exhaust too much. If I had a 1.8 and needed to do a timing belt change anyway, I'd think about trying it.

Come on Tim, be a super-innovator. The only twin turbo with a exhintake cam! :)

TurboTim Sep 27, 2006 01:14 PM

Ok. Anyone have a spare 1.8 exhaust cam? ;)

m2cupcar Sep 27, 2006 02:03 PM

I think I have a 99 exhaust cam somewhere in the garage. Actually I still have my entire MazdaComp Production valvetrain and Motorola Cup cams.

Thanks for posting all the plots. I'm impressed (amazed) at what Tom has done with his greddy. Who could ask for more? ;)

Well Brad might have had a fuel leak that was causing him to lose fuel. For one thing his clamps were useless since they had been worn over time and couldn't hold tight, the other was cracked fuel line. At 70psi they failed.

His 02 sensor is also throwing a code, along with "GN signal." I blame a burnt wire for the O2, not sure about the GN code.

But on the other hand, his paint still looks good.:bigtu:

Cheer up Brad. It will get better:drama:

Braineack Sep 28, 2006 10:38 AM

true. Hopefully we'll have him boosting soon!

Funny you mention the paint, we notcied he has Red/Blue RB stripes under his silvers ones.

Newbsauce Sep 28, 2006 10:51 AM

Haha, seriously when stuff goes wrong it all happens at once :) I'm staying positive about it though. Today I'm replacing that nasty valve cover once I pick up the gasket from mazda. Also have a home depot trip planned for the day (fuel clamps)

Braineack Sep 28, 2006 11:03 AM

It was looking good before you ran out of fuel....does this make you feel better?

I have an extra o2 sensor with the harness, so I can bring that over and we can plug it right in, no soldering needed!

brgracer Sep 28, 2006 01:08 PM

Brad, you'll soon forget all the problems. Which is why boost is so addicting, not only does it make you want more, but it causes permanent amnesia of all the pain in the ass moments. :) Just ask Stripes and Mach929. I was almost ready to cry when my car was sitting in Stripes's garage with an oil and exhaust leak after it had been out of commission for almost 2 months for different reasons.

Scott, you are truly the master of extrapolation...

Braineack Sep 28, 2006 01:24 PM

I like to think outside the box.

VRTSid Sep 28, 2006 02:08 PM

umm guys I have a question, whats the smaller graph at the bottom of the dyno sheet? is that the afr or somthing?

What makes me feel better is that I can't do worse then that dyno run where I dropped off the gas and it gave me 74 rwhp! Thats right, not even at the crank.. thats 74 at the wheels baby.
