Electric motor wiring question
I have an old three speed house box fan. If I accidentally apply power to TWO of the windings at the same time (momentarily) what would happen? Do I blow something up OR does the fan not run OR does it run normally (maybe at a faster speed than the sum of both speeds)?
I am putting light switches on each winding for a project and there could be a point where I mistakenly switch two speeds on at the same time. Thanks! Edit: Or am I wrong. Does a three speed fan run three sets of windings at the same time to achieve max speed? I'll have to get the switch and test it. |
Nope, windings are independent of each other. Project was scrapped anyway (still using the stock 4 position switch and one light switch).
