That.. is not quite the idea about evolution. If peanutbutter isnt your main source of nutrition and you dont have to compete against some other lifeform for it.

One famous swedish comedian did a gig in church about christianity (show was called "tough crowd") where the last punchline was... "well, if i'm going to hell for not being a christian, and you guys (the christians in the crowd condemning him) are going to heaven for eternity, then where's the elevator? Down please!"

one time i'm sitting at college just relaxing and i see this kid with 2 girls enter the lounge. Just the way he was walking i'm like this has to be one of them "join Christianity" people. I sit where i was so the girls start walking towards me and my friend. They start talking to her so i'm like hhmm maybe i'm wrong... i turn around and the guy that was with them is right there 2 feet away looking right at me. What he opens up is

Faith and reason have a strong connection, but they are not mutually exclusive. When folks come to understand that, discussions that cause growth can take place. With that said, the argument of evolution cannot shake my faith. I don't know what the ultimate answer to this question is, but to me it is a bit like arguing how a car was made while you are driving it. WTF does it matter? As long as you can drive and enjoy it, and fix it when it fails, why not enjoy it?

Perhaps I am naive, but I am happy...

If creationism is an acceptable theory, then this guy is probably pretty close to the truth too, right?

(Patricia also prayed to God not to do anything miraculous during the course of the experiment, so as not to disqualify the findings.) No life evolved. This shows that life cannot come from non-life through natural processes."

It is the other way around isn't it? If you have a strong faith in something, you dont really look or care for reason? As you said yourself.

I mean, there is a lot, a whole lot... in fact, all the scientific evidence that exists in nature points to evolution. As for creationism, there tend to be a lot of explanations constructed to explain why the evidence points elsewhere. Usually it is something like "god works in mysterious ways".

I know that it is impossible to prove that god doesnt exist, and I respect that a lot of people need or want to have faith in god, allah, buddha, trees and rocks, asgard and whatnot. What gets to me is the tendency to toss evidence aside because it doesnt fit the model of life one believes in.

Edit: Mendelian genomics is quite dependent on evolution, and I suspect most people can relate to eyecoloring passing down through the generations. The smoking gun might not have been found (bacteria makes bad fossils) but the bullet trajectory has been traced through millions of years.

The one about faith and reason? I understood it perfectly. But to me, there is no such thing as faith since there is no higher power to believe in. IMHO faith is an outdated concept, a leftover from the time when early humans couldn't explain what was going on around them (the sun comes up, it rains, thunder, etc.) and made up characters and stories to explain it away as some sort of magic. Now we know better, but we have yet to fully graduate from our collective need for some other explanation.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to pray for my team to win, do a rain dance, and sacrifice a peasant to the sun god.

Finally someone who thinks just like me! :giggle: I've always said exactly that, about how faith and religion was reasonable when humans couldn't explain things like lightning and rain, disease, other natural events. Every day we learn more through science and yet some people still want to explain these things away as an act of a mysterious being of which no proof exists.

And I love how people kill for their god(s). I guess everyones god is the real one. The others are just imagining things.
