I've been carting at NJMP almost every week since opening this season and a few friends of mine decided to run at least one endurance race this season with the intention of competing regularly. I'm tired of getting aids from the neck braces there and I need to start buying my own gear if I'm going to compete.

So: does the EVS R4 race collar have any advantage(s) over a regular helmet support neck brace or am I just spending more to get my neck broken in roughly the same place and to look like a winner?

I have the worst feeling that this is in the same category as a basic collar. That and there's no difference (price and looks, aside) until you step up to a hans. Especially after reading this:
