Nice, should work great. I was considering a small compressor for a while and decided that a 1/2" Dewalt impact to go with my other 18v XRP tools would be more handy/used on a regular basis.

That is a good deal... I look occasionally. Really want a 60 gal. 220 after living with a portable 25 oil-less for ten years though.

 

What all is there to look for when buying one of these? I've wanted one for years, but I'm completely clueless about them and would only know what the seller is telling me.

 

Rob, when I move to a "final resting place," I'll be hooking up with a 60/80gal 240V compressor, but for the moment, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of having to run 240 (not to say I wouldn't have if the right deal hadn't come along )

Jay, I've been looking for a good long time. I was looking for an oiled compressor (quieter, as Rob alluded to) with enough flow (cfm at 90psi) to run a decent impact wrench for a decent amount of time.

 

Great deal for sure, I am getting tired of borrowing my brother-in-law's 55gal compressor, it's a hassels every time I need it, may jump on the band wagon here shortly.

 

I've got a detached garage w/o the fat wires running to it needed for 220... so I've also considered another cheap/used oil-less. I can build a platform and box for it outside of the garage and just run a hard line into the garage. That'd keep the fierce noise out... or at least lessen it.

I got a little 120V of some type I need to pick up from my dad.
Runnng 230V really isn't that big of a deal, but I'd actually have to pay for a 230V compressor.

 

Not a big deal, no. I did it ay my folks house when my dad got his big compressor, but running wiring like that isn't a great idea if you ever plan to sell a house, unless you plan on ripping it out before listing, or are willing to have it checked over by a "certified electrician." Just not worth the hassle right now.

Not to mention...I'm out of slots in my breaker box, and don't want to run a daughter-box/piggy-back box.

 

bah, if the wiring is outside of wall, just lay conduit or racetrack. it will look professional, and no one's the wiser.

 

My garage is detached and there's a good ten foot span of concrete I'd need to go under to run the conduit. I've got the subpanel set up after the last renovation job, so it's a step in the right direction. One day.

I am amazed at the deals on the big 220 compressors that come up on CL.

 

detached is a bit different. my statement was directed towards Ben.
if you can stand to look at it, you can run it overhead. much easier, though also much less attractive too.

 

This is the 5hp version of mine. Looks like I did well.

 

Still haven't gotten 220 to the garage so I gave in and picked up this used Husky. 26 gal 5 hp with separate motor and cast iron pump. I'll stick it in the shed behind the garage and run a hard line to the garage so I won't have to hear it.

Damn nice deal. I could not live without my compressor now that I have been spoiled with one.

 

I tried and it was just too painful every time I needed it. My year of suffering is over!

 

Atlanta93LE, I think that is the same one I have, but mine is a re-branded Sears. I got it at a garage sale for 30 bucks. Had to replace the belt and change out the oil (idiot had used what looked to be 50W motor oil in it), and it has worked for me quite well. I've run it continuously for about 8 hours straight (air grinder), and it has taken everything I threw at it.

Get yourself a decent (i.e. NOT harbor freight) impact wrench. Once you get used to using air tools, you'll wonder how you ever got along without them.

 

The compressor in the OP has been great. Grinder, impact gun, nailer, all work great. Compressor can fill the tank in ~1min, and rarely has to run under normal usage. Love it.
