Yes- you want the "i". That 18-55 IS is a great little lens for the price. Cheap means small and lightweight- a good fit for the plastic body. But IMO it really shines for video. The IS is indispensable when it comes to shooting vid. It does fall off at the extremes, but it's hard to hold that against it given the price. It's basically replaced my 50 f1.8 as the carry around because of the IS and zoom.

So I got the T1i + 18-55mm for $350 including tax, then bought Brainy's 55-250mm for $85. Total for body and 2 lenses is $435. Not bad.

In regards to the 70-300 non IS or USM, my father in law gave me his. It might be because its a much older copy, but I really like it. It is just a bit soft, but I have taken some really great shots with it.

I still want the 28-200 as my "normal" lens though. The 18-55 IS is just not quite long enough (that's what she said)
