I did a thing.

How soon can we turbo it?
|
Jelly overload achieved. You're winning pretty hard, good sir
I miss my s550 |
Emilio, why this over the Camaro SS 1LE?
Just curious, I'm a huge Mustang fan as well. |
I like the looks of the S550 better, flat-plane crank and more coolers.

But the SS 1LE does have oil, trans, and diff coolers. I'm guessing you got the track pack GT350? |

It's an incredible machine. But dare I say it's too fast for my humble driving skills. Congrats.
|
|
So when do you release the Xida's and 6UL's.
|
Hey I'm working on finger followers for the Voodoo. Well, I should be, but I'm on miataturbo instead.
Congrats, interested in seeing what you do with it. |

6UL's unknown. We're just starting the data gathering process. Primary issue is lack of 200 or Super200 tires for it. Two best HPDE tire options are factory 19" PSS2 or Toyo R888R in 20". Hoosier has a perfect size 19" A7/R7 but I'm skeptical that market is big enough to justify a whole new casting tool. |
Another issue is the eleventy billion other wheels available to suit any single one of your heart's desires, from poverty to balleur budget.

So for the GT, yes, many choices. For the GT350, very few track specific options in one piece LP cast/ Flow Formed. |
My friend Sean struggled to find a non-Chineseium 19" setup for his 1LE. Ended up bending two of the wheels he did buy almost immediately. The market is ripe.
|
I saw that video earlier today on another forum. As much as I want to be a luddite, the GT350 and 1LE make it tough to argue.
|
|
So you sold your C6Z for this? How does it compare?
EDIT: Just follow the link Emilio already provided if you want that question answered. |
Now drop 400lbs off the GT350. Should help make it even more insane?
This Carbon-Bodied Shelby GT350R Drops Hundreds of Pounds for $127,000 |
I got a ricer flyby by one of these while I was walking into my building this morning. A+, would listen again.
|
I also heard one of these scream by in the carpool lane a couple months ago as I turned off the radio, lowered my windows, and enjoyed the breathtaking orchestra of 'Muricuhh.
Bout 10 seconds later a cop also roars past me with his lights on, and I already knew what was gonna happen. 2 exits down as I see him pulled over, I was tempted to offer to drive it home for him so that they wouldn't tow it :D

However, 350 owners do tend to have, and spend, a whole lot more money than Miata owners, so I bet y'all can still make money in that market. |
Wheel tire combo is about 60 lbs, 30 of which is tire. Crikey
|
Shudder haha.

You forget I also have C6 Z06 and tow a 42' gooseneck with a Ram 3500 crew cab dually. But yeah, I fit in the Shelby perfectly with the stock Recaros. No floor pan mods!

The GT350 is the gizz of the LORD. The C6Z is an open diff 1.6 NA. |
derp. totally missed that. thanks

Just the same, it's porky. Rear seat delete kit from Shrader performance drops 30#. OEM 35# battery being replaced by Battery Tender 5# LiFePo4 battery. OEM 10.5/11" wheels with 295/35- 305/35 PS2's will remain as daily. Project 6GR 11/11.5 with 305/30 RS4's for track use. G-Loc R18/R16 prebed pads ordered, just because. DSC Sports programmable interface for the magneride shocks installed. Waiting for prototype Xida ACE shocks/struts. No plans to do anything power wise, it has plenty. I'll keep my eyes open for any other low hanging fruit to make it lighter though. The 6UL's we will do for the car will be the dimensionally identical to the factory GT350R (11/11.5"), just 6 lbs lighter each than the OEM 10.5/11" |
Emilio, I know I asked earlier why you prefer the GT350, but I'm curious if you've driven the SS 1LE (or if anyone you respect as a driver has) and how the two compare from a trackworthy standpoint.
The 1LE I can get in OK around $40-41k, so the extra $20k for the GT350 I can't justify. I realize the balance, brakes, etc, may not be as good. I was just curious if you could provide any feedback. In reality, both cars are way above my current skill level. But I love the absurdity of both of them for the price and performance they offer. |
Haven't driven the 1LE but by all accounts it's very good. The common themes published from those that have driven both: 1LE not quite as agile or connected, engine not as exciting. GT350 is a tad faster on track.
Personally, I just don't like the way the Camaro looks. That and I have always been a fan of the old small block, super high revving 5.0L SCCA Trans Am motors. I have never been a big Mustang fan but..Damn https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8dcb9aaa4c.jpg |
I agree, the GT350s are pure, unadulterated pure sex.
|
The front end looks very evo inspired to me tbh

Not. |
Wait...
Is the entire 'not' thing cool again? I'm so far behind the times that I had to google 'lituation' when I got a party invite the other day... |
street's closed pizza boy. find another way home
|
Apparently if I drink a beer and look at cars evos and gt350's look similar.

I saw a Mazda 6 with Mustang style headlights and it threw me off for a second. It actually looked kind of good (ignoring the "stance" obviously).
|
|
I fixed your video Emilio, IB's YT linking always fucks up no matter how correctly you do it.
|
|
Did a bunch of work on one today and had a chance to drive it on the street. Very impressed. Engine is just the right amount of power, very manageable. Surprised the ride quality hasn't been mentioned. Thing seems like a road trip king, it seemed super quiet and comfortable on my short drive.
oil change: retarded, dumps oil on the power/CAN lines for the PS. rear springs: retarded, easiest way is to drop the subframe. alignment: managed 2.5* with Steeda camber plates and factory lowering springs. Could have gotten maybe .1-.2 more before hitting the chassis. Had a laugh after working on plenty of Miatas, 17mm wrench for tie rods locking nuts. GT350? 24mm! |

Enjoying this thread, and the other one linked to earlier.
Looks like a hoot. |

rear springs: retarded, easiest way is to drop the subframe. I plan on doing the FP spring kit, good to know it's ugly beforehand. We're doing our own camber plates with coaxial perches for the upcoming Xidas. So, crash bolts for now. |
Stock ones are press in, btw. Dunno if crash bolts work well with that.
the rear springs are easy, great video online. They're just a pain if you don't find the video until after you've wasted 2 hours trying to pivot the lower arm down. It was a 2017 spin on. Owner specifically wanted it torqued to factory spec. Stupid factory tool has a 22mm nut, which means 1/2" socket and 1/2" torque wrench. Difficult through the access hole, but you cant really get the combo on between the filter and the subframe until it's actually tight. Like I said, retarded. You end up denting and scraping up the filter a bit removing the filter wrench. Do you know if the cartridge filter can be retrofitted? Sounds much better. |
Just starting to research the filter thing. Apparently they can be retrofitted but it's not simple. Ford makes a crash bolt as well as a few aftermarket suppliers. One hack is to simply grind the knurling off of the factory bolt, voila another degree of camber.
|
Interestingly, I've been at a couple track days where a GT350 has blown up, and an auto journalist told me they blew up two of them during their car of the year testing. Apparently the earlier ones had a recall on a faulty oil line. Glad you are enjoying your car, and I hope it's fine.
|
Yeah, they already did a recall for that awhile ago.
|
I love the sound of the GT350 but experienced the above failure a little more personally than I would have liked. The car ahead of me lost the aforementioned oil line at the end of our track's main straight. I had zero braking on the left-hand wheels and promptly spun going into Turn 1. I missed the outside tire wall and inside concrete wall and, luckily, there was no-one close behind to collide with me. Turns out that he had an appointment to replace the oil line the following Monday.

Lots of bits to remove to do a professional wrap on most modern cars. So the GT350 doesn't come with tow hooks. Both Ford Performance and all aftermarket tow hook options require removing panels. Weird that Ford didn't include them or make them easily attached. We're installing the Ford Performance tow hooks while the bumpers are off. They are the lightest available. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ccd5e5ac5b.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...18a1efcc1b.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a53c377c6a.jpg |
