Some may recall I got popped for no front plate coming out of Baker CA.

So today I went to the CHP to have it signed off. The officer asks me "so you have a front plate on the car". "Yes sir I do," he signs of the ticket. Doesn't even come out side to verify the car, or plate.

So I am walking out to the car, and he follows me out to his squad car. Looks over to me and replys, "I would take that plate off too, it's ugly on there."

I've gotten two of those fixers. $100 or $10 with the sign off. I can always tell when the revenue stream is down here in SF. The cops are always glad to do it here, though the last guy didn't seem to know why he was signing...

I always allot $50 a year for tickets. I'm darn good about moving the car for street cleaning but always seem to space out once or twice a year.

 

Ours is a straight Freebie "fix it", never heard of having to pay for one with signoff. I went about three months without one. Finally got stopped...with the president of our company in the car. That's all that he stopped me for. Just saw no plate. So there we sit, with 6'4" of my boss stuffed in the passenger seat, getting a fix it ticket.

Of course, the Miata still has a FL tag so no need there.

 

Everything here in San Francisco is pay. $50 street cleaning and meter violations. It's a revenue source. Meanwhile we have several thousand city employees making over $100,000. There's actually a growing bias against cars and a couple of supervisors who would ban them if they could. Weak.

 

The last two front-plate tickets i recieved happened on the same day. The first waste of life gave me the bullshit about "there are laws for a reason, and you don't get to pick which ones you follow." The other mouthed off and after asking me where I work replied, "How'd you get that job?"

Its a good thing they're enforcing this and not wasting their time with crime like theft...of, there's no money in that.

 

I pondered living in the city and, as a car guy, could only come up with the Outer Sunset. Sure the roads aren't perfect, but there's no trolling po-po and plenty of parking + garages. If you own a miata in the middle of SF, you're either a masochist or a homosexual (though I admit they are easy to park in tiny spots if you live in the castro).

my miata has never had a front plate on it since it rolled off the lot. That includes its first 4.5 yrs in silicon valley and 2.5 on capitol hill in DC. no idea how that worked out, but who am I to question the ways of the universe.

 

I get a ticket for this about once every 6 months. Last time, it sort of got me in a whole asspain of trouble since I didn't have my license with me and my registration was expired. Ugh. They pulled me over for that though. $65 or $75 ticket in MD.

Worst is in DC, I've been ticketed several times while parked for "failing to have front plates" despite living out of state. What the ******* ****?

i've always wondered if i should try to take off the front plate or just simply move it to the side.

cops in va beach are pretty strict.

 

Here in San Francisco, the meter maids give them to you. When they're below quota, watch out. I had one give me a ticket for not having my wheels cocked on a hill (okay, I spaced) at 11 p.m., then another for the same thing at 6:30 a.m. before I could even get back to the car. Surprisingly, they let me off on the second one--though I had to pay it to even get a hearing.

I've always meant to do one of those spring-loaded plates that lies flat in the wind. That's the best way to do it.

 

I'm neither, but after four top slashes (I now leave the windows down whenever there's no rain) and at least four larger dings (most recently last month--though she left a note), I do wonder about the masochism. That's why I'm not driving a new car. And it does offer an extended set of parking options.
