News!! This just in BP uses a ring to stop the leak in the pipe!!
This just in.
BP Just stopped the oil leaking from the pipe. Apparently all that was needed was a ring.
Once they put the wedding ring on the pipe stopped putting out.

I'm sure many will disagree but;
Consider a you rent a car your driving for a few months. All is going fine until, while driving on the highway, a wheel (lets say the whole PF spindle brakes and all) falls off, goes off hits another car and your now out of control and smash into a school bus.
Are you are now Satan for killing and injuring all these people or could it be the company you rented the equipment from is liable for the mechanical failure causing harm to others?
I'm not sure who exactly was responsible for underwater pipe maintenance in this case but I assume that's one of those things that the rental company puts in place and you don't touch while using.
Another example would be your rented water heater exploding and damaging your property around it. You may have insurance for this but I can bet you expect the gas company that you rent it from to cover it.
I don't know the origins of the explosion that sunk the rig but the valve not working was the responsibility of it's owner/manufacturer/installer. If operator error caused the rig to sink in the first place then that's BP's fault but unless they manufactured or installed upside down the valve that would've kept the oil in the ground, they can't be faulted for the massive spill.
It's like Toyota being blamed for faulty pedals made to incorrect specs (that they should've said something about) when Chrysler used the same pedals and had the same limited issues with them (at least the brakes still worked in the Toyota's the had peddles stick). Chrysler admitted their problems (a wider and very troubling array) after Toyota was grilled.
I'm sure that was way to serious for this thread.
