My primary focus will be in the packaging department doing process development.... They already do some thermoforming, blister sealing, and pad printing, so I'll pretty much be integrating automation, redesigning cell layouts, researching/installing new equipment, and assisting operations with machine related issues. It should be a nice change to the mounds of paperwork I'm currently used to doing (Not what I originally started out doing ) Later on I can change departments and jobs internally as I become familiar with things. Its located in East Longmeadow MA, so its a good ride (Bout 45min), but the compensation is very good. The Mrs's and I plan to move further north toward the Hartford area to shorten my commute since she can work at any hospital or medical facility...

Thats pretty cool. I am involved in the packaging industry now. I love my job. A lot of machine design, a lot of hands on, and some field service.

Machine automation is a great field. I love it.

We design packaging systems for the food and beverage industry. Tray packers / shrink wrappers, bundlers, and various drop packers to load bottles into boxes. The free samples are always fun too!

 

Cool. Congrats! I didn't know much about them until I saw the links. Very pleased to know there's somebody left in New England who makes real stuff like that.

We thought about it....Rocky Hill would put me 10-15 minutes closer to there..... I like doing design/automation work. Its what I initially did for a few years at my current employer until it got overtaken doing paper/busy work. It's going to be a hard and challenging job, but it'll be so much more interesting. Freebies are always a plus! I'm going to miss the ones I get now, but maybe I'll start getting tools in exchange! Plus since Newell Rubbermaid is composed of many companies, I get a discount off products any of the companies make.

I thought the same thing. The company I work for now has done a lot of outsourcing to a Mexico facility since I've been there, its very depressing. I'm a Manufacturing Engineer, but sometimes I thought of myself as more of a process engineer. My new position seems like I'll be more of a packaging engineer , titles titles titles, they don't really mean anything lol

Officially I am a Mechanical Design Engineer ( according to the business card), but who knows.

Sounds like you enjoy the process / manufacturing side of things. If thats one thing my job lacks its that stuff. We make a piece to the puzzle, but I dont get to deal too much with the integration of the whole line too much until I am out in the field.

With me I am always amazed when I go to a brewery or copacker and I get to see the can depaletizer --> Filler --> pasturizer --> accumulation -- > tray /shrink - -> paletizer

I could definitely see myself moving more into your line of work in the future (in 5-10 yrs). Nice to know there are options somewhat locally.

Dude that's awesome, congrats!! Sounds like a fun job.

My Lenox hole saws & arbors refuse to dull after all the stainless manifolds and exhausts I've done. hacksaw blades last for a very long time too. It's quite impressive.

How awesome would it be to catch a cop with his pants down, wait till he goes in somewhere that you know will take him a little while and with no one around, and then cut his car in half. Sit in a van across the street and watch and laugh at his reaction when he comes out and sees his car in two pieces.
