I'm in North Mississippi at MSU right now but my home is on the coast in Pascagoula, MS. Right on the coast as In my house is waterview property. In Katrina the garage had 9' and the house had 6'. We raised the house 39" and now have flood insurance on it. But the garage has 3 new engines I bought this summer in there and a 98 sentra that's waiting on the new motor to be put it. Oh and about 2K in tools I bought this summer in the garage. All uninsured. And my new wheels and tires are in there. It will all be ruined and float away most likely. Sucks.

Cause my Dad said not to. I'm gonna call a few friends later and try to get one of them to throw most of my tools in my truck and park it on higher ground.

How many does it take...

viperormiata 08-30-2008 11:34 PM

I feel your pain...I live in the keys and am getting some really shitty weather from gustav. Just got done cleaning up from Fay.

Come to think of it I really don't know how my car has survived all these years. I am just so lucky to live in all the right places for storms to hit directly on my house.

andrew 5' surge
ivan 18-22' surge
dennis 10-12' surge
wilma 6'surge
etc.. lots more just can't remember the names

I'm moving to Orlando in a year to finish school at UCF and if anybody lives in this area please give some info on the weather there as far as storms go.

UrbanSoot 08-30-2008 11:53 PM

Don't worry about it man, just worry about your balls freezing off in about four months. :wavey:

Is there any place in this country that just has spring and fall; no winter or summer, and no fucking tornadoes or hurricanes or other manifestation of gods hand bitch slapping you?

And does anyone else find it slightly ironic that it's the areas of the country that probably have the highest concentration of highly religious people that keep getting fucked by this kind of stuff? You don't see any tornadoes or fucking tsunamis in Chelsea in NYC now do you?

I guess you don't know NYC too well. I was trying to make a joke about that particular neighborhood. You're not getting killed in Chelsea. It's one of the gayest places in the country.

Listen to Mark Pat. Get someone there asap and get as much of your shit out as you can. Gustav began right next to us and I just saw the pics from Cuba. When it strengthens again on the Gulf it's going to be a monster.

BTW, to anyone in it's path; get ready for this storm. We always have a small power generator but we also use inverters and car batteries. That way we charge the batteries with the generator and keep things refrigerated for many days.

Stupid: Called my Dad a few minutes ago. Talked to him for maybe 1 minute. He's boarding up all the windows on the south side of the house. He's planing on staying. He said it's about impossible to evacuate right now. Traffic backed up on I 10 from the Mobile Tunnel Biloxi. Damn old diehards. Can't tell em' anything. Oh he said he'd see about getting my tools out of the garage. But he doesn't think it's gonna come our way and he's not too worried about it.

When those winds flip the other direction you're going to have problems. I suspect he should board up the entire house. We stupidly didn't board up my leaded glass front door one year because we thought it was protected by walls ect and wind direction, but when it changed it almost blew the door down in. There was a permanent concave in the door and it had to be replaced.

And I mean you can go around the tunnel in Mobile by going through the city.

patsmx5 08-31-2008 01:56 PM

Yeah you can go around the tunnel. Just saying that traffic in general sucks. Basically it's bumper to bumper on I 10 for 100 miles. I'm sure I 45 is the same. But my Dad's stubborn an he ain't leavin.

We boarded up the entire house for Katrina. Storm just punched the entire window case and all out from the studs. Course our house was so ruined after Katrina.

Trent 08-31-2008 03:03 PM

The storm has weakened somewhat over what was expected about 12 hours ago, but it's still a major storm and still has the potential to reach Category 4 by landfall.

We left my brother's house in Abita Springs at 9:00 pm last night and arrived in Panama City at 6:00 this morning. 9 hours for a trip that normally takes less than 5. :( We wanted to avoid the contraflow fustercluck though.

We stayed with some family last night, but only got about an hour of sleep before getting up for breakfast this morning. We got a hotel room. that was whole disaster in and of itself. they canceled our reservation and told us we didn't have a room. Don't tell a man that hasn't slept in almost three days that he doesn't have a place to sleep! lol. Needless to say, we got some rooms after a marathon yelling session.

I just took my first good hot shower in a couple of days, and I'm going take a nap. lol.

To everyone still in the area, GET OUT!!!!! To everyone from the area, stay safe and my prayers are with everyone.

San Diego county, CA. It's not a proper spring as we don't often get rain, so it's really more like a perpetual early fall all the time. The earthquakes, while frequent, are very tame. Basically the geological equivalent of a soothing massage. A few scattered fires every now and then, but not usually a concern near the coast.

On the other hand, I'm currently on the Gulf Coast of FL, watching not just the two that are already here, but the two more "weather systems" behind them. It's like machine-gun fire...

Well, went in to work today, helped get the entire fleet ready to takeoff, and troubleshot some jets to make them flyable again..

Tomorrow we go in wait for them to decide if they are going to fly the whole fleet out or not, if they do, we launch them all, if not we go home and wait for the rain.

Palin is a big no-sex education abstinence advocate and she can barely control her own. Both McCain and Palin are against programs to help teen mothers too.

Not exactly.

See everyday I read as many sources as possible to get a good angle. And then I form my own opinion. See I find its good to read in this order, New York Times, Aljazeera, BBC News, FOX News Blogs, general opinion blogs, and depending on if it is the correct time of the week, maybe I'll peruse the economist.

Fanboism seems to be nicely transposed in the political world too. But all of this is off topic, so maybe another thread would be better.

So, Why should they help teenage mothers? When did we stop expecting people to handle their own problems? IMO its Sarah Palin's problem, not mine or my tax monies problem.

are you guys kidding me? when a huge right-wing conservative christian has a daughter who has a pregnancy out of wedlock AND underage, it's a BIG DEAL.

when my cousin (that side of the family is fundamentalist christian) had her baby 8 months after she got married, my aunt and uncle sent around apology letters to everyone they knew. APOLOGY LETTERS FOR THEIR DAUGHTER GETTING PREGNANT OUT OF WEDLOCK.

you think Bristol Palin wants to marry the father? it doesn't matter. she has to now. she has to because the alternative is impossible given her mother's situation.

lets look at this and call a spade a spade: The McCain campaign thinks people (women) are stupid enough to think that a prototypical conservative soccer-mom-for-life is the same as Hillary Clinton. They think that they will win over all the feminists who were Clinton supporters.

What they will get are the few republican women who were pro-woman and switched over to Clinton back from the democrats. They wont get the hardcore womens rights types that were never going to vote R in the first place.

One vag is the same as any other vag, right fellas?

here's a clue: if a press release comes out either on a friday or during some other huge shitstorm of news (disaster, war, whatever), it's beacuse the release is meant to be sent out under the radar. it doesn't matter what party it is. What day did Edwards affair scandal break? A Friday.

kids are going to have sex. it's fun and you can't stop them.

a) learn how to use a condom and what sex is all about and dont get pregnant

b) have sex without knowing and assume that "you can't get pregnant if" and end up with a baby.

I bet most teenagers (and even adults) are unaware that you can get pregnant without the guy even having an orgasm. and that's because the Sarah Palins only teach abstinence.

Even Switzerland has an army. They're not naive.

KPLAFIN 09-02-2008 12:15 PM

I graduated high school in '06..more than willing to bet I'm younger than a VAST majority of the people here and that want to talk about sex-ed on the news that "know what teens are dealing with"..... You're NOT going to stop kids from having sex PERIOD, schools want to teach about safe sex and the like but they don't do anything to actually promote it. Here's my idea...why not have a little condom dispenser by the freaking front doors of the high school..that way the kids that are "embarrased" to go buy them or "don't have a way to buy them" can still use them? I think this alone with NO other forms of sex ed in schools would DRAMATICALLY decrease teen-pregnancies.

This being said....I still think that her kids should be left the hell alone throughout the election, even Obama said the same damn thing, his mother was a teenage mother too.

jayc72 09-02-2008 12:18 PM

Fuck all that. Sterilize every girl at birth. Once they pass a exam at 18 years old the procedure can be reversed. The exam will determine if they are fit to have a baby, and are responsible enough to take care of it. They also need proof that they are financially in a place to take care of the child as well. A lie detector test should be employed for this exam. You fail, no babies for you.

I'm tired of seeing people neglect their children. Imagine what the world would be like in only two generations if the stupid and irresponsible were not breeding. Nirvana.

Epic thread d r i f t.

Sounds almost like some WWII Germany processes there, LOL. But seriously, if you weeded out all of the stupid and irresponsible people then there would be about 12 people born a year. Where's the fun in that? Who would we make fun of?

Meh that could work but again were getting away from responsibilities here. When did the government, teachers, schools become responsible for our kids? If my teenage daughter gets pregnant or my teenage son get a girl pregnant IT'S MY FAMILIES PROBLEM. Not yours, not the government and not the schools and teachers. When are parents gonna be held responsible for what their under age kids are doing?

Again

When are parents gonna be held responsible for what their under age kids are doing?

Paragraph #1: Of Course, thats my point. And Palins kid having a baby explains a lot about how "abstinence only" parenting works.

Paragraph #2: Obama obviously said that as a political move. It's obvious that if he has half a brain, he and his crew are overjoyed.

leave the kids alone sure.

but what you say about supplying condoms? no way never would the republican candidate admit that was a possibility. kids shall not have sex. that's their very strong belief.

there's a lot of conservative groups that thwart "free condom" type programs. they will protest universities that offer them via the on-campus health clinics and they will petition to have machines like you suggest removed.

wow, epic thread drifizzle indeed.

Houma is screwed. It looks like it could be three weeks before we get power. one of our walmarts burned to the ground, and two of our major grocery stores burned as well.

I'm in no hurry to get back, but at 90 a night, it's going to get real expensive to stay away.
