Handicapped plates on a motorcycle?

I saw a guy ridding a HD big twin with HC plates. This guy was huge, made it look like a Honda Rebel. Prob 6 1/2' or better 300lbs. Now, I ride, and I have health problems, so I can't say anything without knowing his story.... but what kind of health problems can you have that stop you from walking a few parking spaces but allow you to safely handle a 600+lb mc???

I know that once moving on flat pavement, a mc is easier to ride than a bicycle... but the real world isn't that simple or easy.

And is the HC plate necessary? In 25 years of riding in a dozen different states I have only seen one place where you weren't allowed to park closer than the cars anyway.

You in D-town,man...everything about that place is a about crooked contacts...He paid for those plates(G)

It's probably just automatic. Once you're handicapped, you just get the plate so why try to get a regular one if you're entitled to a HC one?

As for the HC plate, HC status can be due to different things. I have an Army friend who's on the verge of being medically retired (OIF wasn't kind to him, to say the least) and if his foot gets any worse he'll qualify for a HC tag, but I don't see him giving up his Harley...

This was in the burbs! No one in Detroit has the money for a Harley, they spent all their money on Escalades and $2,000 houses!!!!

For the record, I am not in Detroit proper, its just the closest known location so that people roughly where I am in case I am selling something.

That's like whenever I see a 2009 Mustang Gt 500 with handicap plates...I mean come on...so handicap but you can still drive a car like that? Or even better is something like a Ford F350 King Ranch power stroke diesel, lifted, with stacks and a 12" exhaust with a handicap plate...makes no sense.

Or if you are around Ft.Hood, everyone has a DV plate...not sure what the significance is, it's not like it gets you closer to Walmart.

Pen2_the_penguin 04-25-2010 04:53 PM

where I live, there is a bitch that drives a new 2010 Camaro SS with HC plates, and she totes in about 6 bags of shit at a time while wearing high heels... WTF?

DV as in Disabled Veteran? If so and that's your attitude towards them, go fuck yourself and move to France prick. If not, I apologize.

And does she always park it in the oversized spots that are supposed to be for vans with ramps?

WTF is the deal with that? If someone can get a ticket for parking in a HC spot.... why shouldn't a a guy with HC plates on his Focus get a ticket for parking in a van spot just because he wants more space around his new paint?

My cousin has always been in a wheel chair. My uncle parks his van w/ramp (for her) in the back of the parking lot as long as it isn't raining. He says that it doesn't hurt her to push her the extra distance.

Agreed... if you mean:

Who can get Disabled Veteran (DV) License Plates
A veteran who, as a result of an injury or disease that occurred while on active service with the U.S. Armed Forces, qualifies if any of the following apply:

•Has a disability rated at 100 percent by the U.S. Veterans Affairs or the military service that discharged the veteran due to a diagnosed disease or disorder that substantially impairs or interferes with mobility.
•Is so severely disabled as to be unable to move without the aid of an assistant device.
•Has lost, or lost the use of, one or more limbs.
•Is permanently blind, as defined in §19153 of the Welfare Institution Code.
Then you can go fuck yourself.. if you are talking about some other thing then I also apologize.

At work we had a lady in the office who had HC plates. She parked up front but at lunch she would walk a mile or two with the other ladies in the office for exercise. Who walks for 30 minutes but can't be bothered to park 20 yards away. I always wanted to confront her about this but she retired before I got a chance.

FWIW, I park WAY OUT in the parking lot at work so the dumb asses won't shit up my car. I've actually timed it and it takes an extra 30 seconds to walk from there. Who doesn't have one extra minute a day? Makes me wonder who is parking their Lexus, Porsche, etc in the tight spaces at work just asking to get their doors dinged up.

NastyNate 04-25-2010 08:50 PM

If I could get awwway with HC plates.... well anyway. I had DV plates on my oldd bike and that got a lot of looks and questions.

WonTon 04-25-2010 08:57 PM

FWIW.......my dad is a handicap (he has had like 6 lower back surgeries) and he has handicap plates on his HD road-king. he had to talk to his doctor about his abilities to ride a bike, and since him getting on the bike and keeping it up right doesnt require the use of his lower back he can ride his bike.

Me too. I park as far as possible. The sheet metal on the Miata is thin.

I sawa guy in a brand new STI jam in between to suv's. Right after he went in a little kid ran out and jumped on his hood and then swung the door into it. The dad just laughed at him. Who cares about cars so much that they want to get an STI... but not enough that they don't care about the paint/bodywork?

Thank you for your service, your country owes you a debt of gratitude.

My cousin's husband's dad is a paralyzed Vietnam veteran, and he restores foxbodies/vintage cars now. I am simply amazed at what he has done, without the use of 2 legs. His latest project is a Studebaker with an LS2. I'm not sure if he has dv or hc or normal plates or what..

Born and raised in Livonia here...

Born in Detroit but my parents moved me to to the country when I was small... although I wouldn't call Pinckney "the country" anymore. More like yuppie heaven.

Cococarbine3: My wife has a sheetload of relatives in Livonia... I avoid that city like the plaque

PTSD gets you a DV plate. When I see some guy with a brand new Bmw 330xi hop on out of their car and scoot on into wally world... I mean come on.

Qckslvr 04-27-2010 01:05 PM

There is a local guy that rides an old pan head around. It has a side car on it, but no handicapped plates. He only has one leg, and refuses to be labeled.
