Not bad. :dunno:
Why do I feel like an STI 6MT swap would be a pain in the ass, but an H6 swap would be worthwhile? I'd do EG33 to keep it simple, run it with a series 1 AEM EMS because that's what I know. Copy all the settings over from the other even fire 6 cylinder I know of.

Braineack 02-06-2014 02:04 PM

so it looks like i have a spider on my motor...

18psi 02-06-2014 02:07 PM

We do STi 6mt swaps in 1 day, its really not hard as long as you got all the parts.

Tim,
With your awesome skills you could make something ridonculous and we'd all be jealous lol

TurboTim 02-06-2014 02:11 PM

I had an '04 STi. I hated shifting all the time. I much more enjoy the wider ratios of the 5MT. Is there a strong 6speed/STi trans with wider ratios?

Don't you also have to swap the rear end..and the axles...and the hubs...and rotors, wheels...seems like too much a pain in the ass. Unless you can continue to use the car's original axles.

18psi 02-06-2014 02:15 PM

the 07+ sti has much better gearing.

I still prefer the 5mt though.

The 06 was a disappointment. Fun as hell to drive, but too many issues that the dealer claimed he didnt know about. They bought it at auction and I think I was the first person to test drive it..including employees at the dealership...

<snip>

I think mostly I just didnt like how they either honestly knew nothing about the history of the car, or chose to act like that was the case. It just seemed like if there were that many things that were that quickly noticeable and not addressed, how many other issues are hiding that I didn't notice.

They honestly probably know nothing about the car. Its a numbers game for them, buy low, sell high, make $$$. I had pretty much the same experience with an 04 WRX wagon I drove from a quick-turnover lot. They knew nothing about the car other than what was on the carfax, but they claimed to have done the timing belt "because it probably needed it" at that point in its life and cleaned it out, that was about it. I pulled up the rear cover/deck to check to see if it actually had a spare and a jack and there was a bunch of paper and trash and shit under there because "We honestly hadn't looked under there before." lol The heatshield was missing off the turbo (rusted off by the looks of it) and they had recently pressure washed everything under the hood to make it look pretty. All this did was make it throw misfire codes when I went for a test drive and blow white aluminum oxidation all over the place when it dried. Plus rust up under the bumpers and all up in the exhaust. This was obviously someone's east coast winter car.

I really REALLY enjoyed the car, but I didn't leave with a WRX that day.

I think if i ever did a swap on my forester (or an impreza/forester in general) it would be a h6 over any of the turbo swaps. I know the power isn't huge, but the torque wave is phenomenal for a street car and it would make a pretty quick daily. Plus.. that sound

I now have one of these as a daily:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1391720491

Basicaly a wrx that looks better and doesn't steer like a bus nor does it rattle itself to death. Cobb rear bar, STI guage cluster, TSX DP/Midpipe, some totaly awesome muffler that Nasioc people drool over and a TXS tune.

It goes good in the snow and I can fit stuff in it.

rigidbigelsworth 02-06-2014 04:20 PM

I saw a saabaru at another lot a while ago but didn't drive it cuz it was automatic, and I had just driven an 02 auto wrx wagon and was...underwhelmed..so figured no point in driving basically the same car again. I might browse my area for a 9-2x now that I am out of wrx options at the moment

I cannot stress enough how many times I told myself i would get an auto because it was more grown up, better on the highway, i'm lazy, etc... I ended up buying a broken 9-2x and swapping it. Two days after it was fixed I put it up for sale. It's too boring IMO. Don't settle. This is something you will be driving every day for a great time. You deserve to get exactly what you want... take your time finding it, spend the right amount to get the best... otherwise you will be wasting your time.

Braineack 02-07-2014 08:11 AM

I've driven a few auto WRXs--they are completely gutless. You need something with gobs of torque before going to slush.

Braineack 02-07-2014 03:04 PM

Fireindc 02-07-2014 04:46 PM

WRX driver does not know how to drive in the snow. You don't get anywhere over-throttling it like that in the snow.

Braineack 02-07-2014 05:33 PM

gets you further than the cop...
