Default Help us Win. Kart Enduro

Soviet, um Jared (forgot handle), and myself are entering a karting enduro at summit point.

This enduro is 2 hours long, and we have to swap drivers a minimum of three times.

I want to win!

Any recommendations for strategy?

You will not win just FYI. I did an endurance race at SP in karts a few years back in Novemeber while it was raining and 38 degrees out. It was a ------- blast. Just go out and have fun and enjoy yourself.

I think John Madden here pegged it.

I agree-- the three of us are pretty good but are consistently 1-2 seconds off a lap on a 1 minute track vs. the best guys.

I hope it rains too.

Strategy? Drive your 40 minute stint, drink beer.

I would suggest breaking it down into 20min driving stints. That way you don't get to tired and start putting down worse lap times. Buying a dry erase board so you can write messages on it show to your current driver is also helpful.

Radio's, I was pushing hard near the end without realizing we were leading by a large margin, ended up running into someone and getting black flagged and came in 4th. If we had a radio my buddy could have told me to just take it easy.

I suppose dry erase board would work too, but it's hard to notice it when zooming around.

I do some indoor karting myself. The place I go has 6.5hp karts and 9hp karts. To qualify to run the 9s, you need to get under your weight's qualifying times, so that's a good bench mark for me, as I don't get enough practice to get far below it, and they change the track layout often.

I'd love to have my times put up once in a while, to see what changes I made in my line made a difference in lap times.

My hands are cramping like crazy at the end of a 10 minute stint, I can't imagine 40 minutes. Make sure your gloves grip like CRAZY. Also try to find one of these:

to save your neck, and possible a rib protector thingy to save your...ribs.

The goal is to be fast through out your 40 minute stint, so do everything to make yourself comfortable.

Here, you can see me down in 7th spot. #6 is Mykel Hayden, who took his wife's last name of Henderson. If anyone can find info on him, I'd be interested. Supposedly an ex super bike racer, moved to karts, cousins with Nicky and Tommy Hayden. Sounded like BS, but he does look like them and has the skills to back it up. In a 6.5hp, he's 1.2 seconds under qualifying times.

I, on the other hand, have roughly 50 races at this place over the last 4-5 years, I'm qualified for the 9hp karts, and can do 1 second below qualifying times, in the 9hp kart.

To sum up, 1-2 seconds isn't horrible, but is a lot of time to find on a 60 second track. Be consistent, work on getting your first couple laps down as quickly as you can.

Notice on my time sheet, my fastest time was only .2 slower than him (remember he has 2.5hp less than me), but my first three laps were 1.1 and 1.2 seconds slower respectively, then we had a nice .5 gap in our lap times before I finally got within .2 seconds on lap 16.

The pictures are deceiving. #4 is a 100lb 18+ girl. Not a 10 year old boy like the pic suggests.

Pretty sure the slow karts here are 9hp and the fast ones are closer to 15. But yeah, same system - you gotta qualify for the fast karts. every lap has to be below a certain time.

Regarding the 20 vs 40 min stints... 20 should be cake... but driver changes suck :( We all went karting this sunday and did 8 sessions worth 10-11 minutes each within 4 hours. My back is bruised from sliding around in the seat but I'm not sore.

I just want to race and pass people passing is fun!

Soviet, I saw that we are only allowed a certain number of black flags before gettig DQ'd!

I suppose I will have to not use my "rubbing is racing" technique . You taught me everything I know in that regard

Speaking of which do you have a clip from our bumper cars session?

Probably one of the most important things you have to remember is, in order to win, you have to finish. Don't make dumb mistakes out there trying to win, let the front runners battle it out and take each other out.
