How do you drive your turbo miata?

As you would any other car? Aggressively? Carefully?

On my way out just now EVERYONE on the highway was doing 50-55mph and clogging up the shit. My stomach hurt and I knew what was on the way, not to mention I have a busy day ahead of me. So I'm just trying to go on my way and these motherfuckers must all be out on a stroll. :vash:

I try not to be an asshole, but if someone makes me mad I give them the finger or scream fuck you. One time I showed a lady a fat stomach using my hands to make a belly and I mouthed "your fat". Her whole face fucking dropped and she slowly disappeared in the rear view.

Today a lady in a BMW wagon was doing like 50mph in the passing lane. So here I come, trying to be patient. You know its not my fault my car just screams up behind you and scares you lady. So I see her looking the mirror and mouthing something at me, I ignore it. She puts her blinker on to move over, ever so slowly and carefully not to CRASH AND DIE! So I throw it in 4th and blast the fuck by her and as I look over I see her screaming at me! She was the fucking idiot for going 50 in the passing lane!!!!

When I'm in the taurus through I just stay in the middle lane and keep my tail between my legs. That car has no balls and cant maneuver for shit, so I'm pretty much at everyone else's mercy.

So how do you guys drive your turboz?

About like that, when I'm in a hurry. Can't STAND people clogging up the fast lane with their speed limit driving. I'm not quite as mean as you with the fat comments, etc.

I thought this thread was going to be asking about around town driving. I'm sure every turbo Miata driver knows the feeling of only having to move the throttle about an eighth of its travel before being whisked forward. I used to dial back the throttle as boost came on but now I just let it happen.

I'm a total asshole. I cut people off, I race when the lane ends, etc. basically I don't give anyone the time of day to do anything on the road, I just go around them. Once they are behind me, a wreck is not my fault. Most people are totally oblivious.

I stay in boost and blow black smoke all over pedestrians.

I'm kinda the same way. I can't stand people doing the speed limit in the passing lane. If I'm riding their ass that's car-speak for GTFO of my way.

I drove my miata very calmly and only every now and then give it wot. Hate idiots that don't follow the common courtesy of the road, and I'm very vocal with the HELLA horns I installed on it.

Now with the forester I'm the same way: I drive slow and calm and stay in the middle/right lanes, and only evry now and then have the need to use the left lane.

Speaking of your Hella horns, and not to turn this into a horn thread, but I'd always had air horns and they never lasted more than a year. Tried an electric version and it sounded like a toy train horn. (toot toot! Outta my way, silly billy!) Not a good sound.

I don't even have a horn in the miata! Its actually pretty dangerous cause if someone cuts me off the only thing I can really do is swerve to avoid them. :noes:

Back in the day Savington posted a picture of a car that had this "MOVE OVER ---->" decal on the windshield. It's reversed like an ambulance so it can be read when the idiot looks in the rear view mirror and sees you coming. Well I bought one but never put it on. Maybe its about that time. lol

BTW Koto, I didnt forget you man. The thing I was working on didnt come out like I wanted to and I havent had a free minute to redo it. I will eventually though and send it to you once its up to par.

FWIW, I'm in Italy right now and people here really know how to drive - the passing lane is used only for passing, if someone is coming up behind you people get the fuck out of the way, that sort of thing. People in America are so fucking stupid when it comes to driving. Not ass in the sense of cutting people off, racing, and general hooliganism but speeding around people and getting a little closer than is their general comfort zone just to make them a little nervous.

Oh, and I drive my Miata like an ass, but mostely because it's so much easier to drive like an ass than our A6, which I drive like a grandma.

And when people like you guys are trying to get in my lane for an exit I'll be the one slowing down and speeding up making sure you DON'T make that exit. And yeah and if there's a yellow light ahead you can bet I'm going to slow down so you don't make it. Gonna honk at me to go when the light has been green for less than a second? If I look up and see you flailing your arms like a chimp I'll literally sit at a green light till your dumb ass tries to go around. Single lane? Looks like you're going to have to wait another cycle because I'm going to speed off at the last second.

This thread is a funny read. I try to drive calmly most of the time but I do some pretty stupid shit, like overtaking cars by moving into a merging lane etc. I think I drive more calmly now I have a dedicated track car. When I am towing I drive extremely conservatively.

I drive a massive diesel truck, I'm allowed to drive aggressively.

I confess, when without horn I've used an aluminum flywheel and 3" exhaust as my horn. But I'm not proud of it.

Plus it really doesn't get the same idea across as a horn, it more confuses the person than spur them to action.

I'd thought about that a bit. I'm only at my address for another 3 weeks though, so if it's not in the mail in a few days it probably won't get to me. :hs:

I have no horn and I never run red lights. I'm talking about driving on the highway and having good lane discpline. Those that don't will get shit from me. And I always win the battle.

I drive flat out. Everywhere.

I bounce off the limiter and afterfire in stop and go traffic and make sure to impress the local children with my BOV.

I drive semi aggressively, but not too fast. I like to do about 72-75 in a 65, and about 80 in a 80. I get highly pissed when someone is pacing the right lane traffic. Then when I get mad I usually start just blasting through traffic in fourth gear. I never really see how fast I get to, but here, in SA I am usually having do drive aggressively because of cell phone eared lane blockers, and the fact no one can merge. In stop and go traffic, I accelerate faster than most cars. I get mad when I have to shift at 1500 rpm to avoid rear ending someone, and when someone comes to a complete fucking stop to make a turn. try to be considerate and keep traffic flowing. The best thing, is that if some asshole tries to try some quick roadrage stuff, chances are they can't out accelerate and manuever a turbo miata anyways, so it is priceless when you dash their hopes of cutting you off, or not letting you merge onto the interstate.

Im n/a but I drive just like you guys. Mostly because the only people here that dont have SUVs have Donks that ride just as high as the SUVs. I prefer not to give people the chance to not see me, and just get the f out of their way. Still legal here to talk on your phone.

until I'm in a hurry. If I'm in a hurry I drive like a complete dick.
I usually plan my trips so that I'm not in a hurry though.

The thing that pisses me off is how some people just have to be in front of you regardless of road conditions, traffic, stop lights anything. Just today I'm at a light next to an old dude in a plain jane camry. It's just us two, two lane secondary road rarely patrolled so I wanted to test a theory. Speed limit is 40. Light goes green and I pull out maybe 3-4 cars on him and stabilize at 60. Do you know this dude does everything in his power to catch and pass me. I'm like really??!!! 25 - 30 over the limit on a back road is normal for him? That shit blew my mind.

I just drive around all the other cars. Technically "weaving in traffic" because sometimes I change lanes like every 3 seconds. But the other drivers are like static objects. I use my turn signals and all and don't cut people off.

What makes my blood boil is several cars driving at exact same speed next to each other, effectively forming a wall and denying any attempt to pass. That's when it's tailgating time. I can outbrake anything anyways...

Thats how ppl drive here too, its amazing... Some times you can tell the ppl, and its like a game to get them to do 70 in a 50 zone, dumb i know... but it pisses me off...

I recently got a ticket for 75 in a 35 in my focus because an assclown in a black tahoe was tailgating the shit out of me on my way to work (rare, I never do that kinda thing and happened to catch a cop this one time)

on the street I'm very safe, don't speed too bad, and never push it on corners.

On the track it's different. Today I was going through a 100mph+ series of corners with huge bumps, watching cars bounce of line so I could pass them and take the inside, cambered line and I thought "holy shit this looks a lot more dangerous than it is". There's a 110mph kink where the back end skates, yeah...totally horrifying.

I sit in the miata, play with the shifter and make vroom vroom noises. About the quickest movement it's made in about 6 months is when I drove the truck forward quickly to get the miata off the tow dolly.

Im actually identical to this. Having said that I dont speed a lot. probably a few clicks over everywhere. As and fast as I want past any fuckwit drivers.

I like to drive a little faster than traffic on multi-lane roads because I feel more in control when I can choose who is around me and where I can change lanes. I'm not talking like 20mph faster, but I generally do 10-15mph over. I also do not tolerate people blocking or riding side by side, and I loathe the asshole that will ride up a turn/center lane to avoid a line of traffic and then cut in at the last second...they are enemy #1. Oh and I HATE cab drivers. I always use my blinkers.

I really do hate residential zone speeders. I see very careless drivers out there, and I drive very defensively when I'm in the miata.

Sorry to hear that man. I have a bunch of young nieces and nephews myself and have always worried about them for this same reason. The neighborhood my brothers both live in just expanded and they added a huge development at the end of the old road. All the new people that moved in speed up and down what used to be a quiet and safe road (my parents live there as well, I grew up on this road) is now full of assholes and reckless kids.

When I'm trying to pull in the driveway if someone is rushing up behind me, literally trying to "push" me out of the way, I just slow down to a halt and open the door and stare at them as they drive by looking at me like I'm the dickhead. The best part is when I'm outside washing the car. If I see someone flying up the road I spray the water at them, well before they get to me I might add, so they can see that I'm doing it. Its not like I sneak a shot at the last second or anything. I actually want them to stop so I can tell them to fuck off. :vash:

I have a bad temper regardless, and when it comes to driving its just inflated x100 when it kicks in. Which it doesn't take much to get it to kick in either.

If I'm well enough off in my later years, I'd actually like to have something to do with the driving laws of this country. Not sure in what aspect yet, but I have a few ideas.

CR-V- yep, drive normal. It's a dog, and I usually have the fam with me.

MS3- well....I use the power when I want/need to. Slow vehicles in the passing lane? kick to 4th, buzz by in the right lane, cut 'em off back into the left lane. No sense in being nice about it, far too many people here from the midwest, where apparently passing lane laws aren't in effect. Just this morning on the way to work, lady doing 45mph onto the interstate in a new minivan. Buzz by her once on the interstate and stop accelerating at like 73, she looked like she was standing still. Hello fucking people, it's an INTERSTATE, the speed limit is fucking 70, not 35. Get with it or get the fuck off the road.........I have places to go!

I drive 25 in 30s in residential neighborhoods; you never know when some 3 year old kid is going to run into the street chasing his ball or whatever. People who speed in residential areas are some of the few people who really get to me. It takes a lot to piss me off, but speeding in a residential is one of those things that absolutely will.

I drive like a sally. Fuel costs too much to drive like an asshat now, and its only supposed to go up. Ride too close, and you'll see how good your brakes really are. They call it the hammer lane for a reason. Put the hammer down, or get out of the way.

I don't see the point of brake checking - if they're not paying attention or don't react quickly enough, then you're both going off the road. If you get tapped in the back at 50, you're pretty fucked. Usually turning around and waving or something is enough, and if it's not, just pull over and let them pass.

Being an asshole to someone who's being an asshole themselves is only going to exacerbate the situation. There is no point in re-inforcing the point that someone is being an asshole - if they're being an asshole, they know they're being an asshole (With the exception of very, very few cases). They're not going to stop being an asshole because you are an asshole to them.

I plan to do my first HPDE in July. Hopefully regular track driving will partially satiate my need for speed.

I drive slow until I get on some crazy back roads then its on like donkey kong. On the highway I do about 80 mph all the time and when I have a full car of people on the way to Hyperfest I like to pull smoky hole shots for no reason and do some hill jumps just for good fun.

Really if you are in the left lane not going fast enough to pass someone get out of it and stay out I hate that shit.

I drive a hillbilly jeep and a Miata that needs a new rear bumper. I don't do it to the point of no return, just a gentle warning. In 9 years of driving, I've never had an accident.

I have this tendency to stare people down hard as I pass them on the right and if they can't figure out they need to not be in the left lane I will:

get in front of them
drop it down a gear
slow till they gtfo of the left lane
then I continue onward knowing that person won't be in everybody elses way

Works better than yelling, beeping, spraying, or flipping them off. I did a 4300 mile trip a couple weeks ago and that worked every time.
