How illegal is this v. asset transfer

My dad had a heart attack a couple months ago, here comes the bullshit:
  1. neighbor gives a woman's wedding ring to my father for some reason to get the ring serviced or something which makes no sense to me
  2. father has heart attack
  3. father recovers from heart attack
  4. ring is gone
  5. neighbor files suit, will take Camaro on consignment
  6. father asks son to accept title transfer of the Camaro to his name
  7. Hustler makes a thread about it
This story reaks of bullshit to me and it sounds like a fucking trap.

I think it ends at one. If she gave it to him, then it was his to lose, right?

Gives as in gift? Or gives as in "here hold this for me" for a while?

Does the neighbor have an appraisal stating the value of the ring?

Does the neighbor have access to your father's house? If so can the neighbor account for every minute while your father was in the hospital?

I don't see any reason to transfer the title to you at this point (provided you are the son in question). If it starts to look like your dad is going to have a judgment against him then yeah, but now seems like time and money spent (albeit probably very little) unnecessarily.

Did the ring fall down into the lava at Mordor?

Seriously though, unless there was some sort of agreement saying otherwise, did your father not own the ring the second it was given to him?

buffon01 06-20-2011 02:40 PM

Are there any specifics as to how this ring is suddenly "gone"?

None. 2-months later my father/his wife discovered the ring is gone and the neighbor is taking them to court over it.

buffon01 06-20-2011 02:48 PM

Is there any concrete proof that this ring was handed to your dad? anything written? i.e. and agreement, receipt etc. What I'm trying to get at is... if there's no concrete proof that this ring was "given" to your father nor when and/or how it was lost/destroyed/stolen etc... then is just a word vs. word case. (IMO)

I, as your dad, would claim a sudden lost of memory due to hardship from heart attack (or some bullshit like that) and since there's no CONCRETE proof that I ever had this ring in my possession nor that I lost it, destroyed it, sold it etc; I'd say fuck you neighbor I don't know where your shit is.

hustler 06-20-2011 02:51 PM

I don't necessarily belive my father is in the right here...I would not be surprised if this were a scheme or something on his end and the ring is in a lock-box somewhere.

buffon01 06-20-2011 02:54 PM

Then do NOT fuck with that. If you feel that way do not get involved AT ALL. Let your father resolve this issue.

I was going to write something along these lines until I accidentally refreshed it. Unless they have documentation, or at the very least credible witnesses, they are hosed. I hate to suggest that your parents should lie, but they are shitty for giving the ring to your dad, and holding him responsible for it. Why in the hell did they give it to him anyways? Sounds like the neighbors are retards. All your dad has to say is that there was no ring.

After this ^^^ I would walk the fuck away from it. I would not want to get dragged into a civil suit that could probably have legal/criminal repercussions.

hustler 06-20-2011 03:09 PM

I'm really stuck on the retardation here. Who gives away a ring for sizing/appraisal/whatever, then keeps it in his pocket at a pool-hall all night?

This will probably be the last time I speak to my father, but oh well.

buffon01 06-20-2011 03:11 PM

Dude not worth it, sucks really because is family. However, if it's your belief that something else is going on here do not fuck with it.

hustler 06-20-2011 03:28 PM

When my mother told me, at 27-years of age, that this man is not my father...well, I've never felt so good.

Faeflora 06-20-2011 03:29 PM

Dude just give Tial a call. It's obvious that they are the cause of and solution to all your life's problems.
