lol the other day i had this problem, turned out to be that one of the cables moved around my antenna at the back of my computer and for some reason wasnt getting steady connection even though i had max signal strength. Fucked around with the problem for 2 hours before unplugging the antenna bending the wire in the center and connecting it back again. Back to rated.

Jesse, you can kill her and find out who her executor is. That's how the Romans did it...I think...

I am not an attorney either, nor do I play one on TV or the internet. However, it is important to determine the titling of assets. If property or accounts are held jointly, the surviving owner receives the property without probate. Likewise any accounts held with a named beneficiary (like life insurance, an IRA, a 401k account, annuities, second-to-die pensions, etc).

It's also important to distinguish if the person is an exector or a trustee and to have copies of the document.

The paperwork is what matters, not what the survivors think the deceased wanted.

Yeah, but there is no thinking about it. It's all written clearly on the will. Isn't that what has to be followed?

If the assets were solely in the name of the deceased. But if they were changed to a joint possession before death then they become the possession of the other person, *I think*.

Perhaps. Either way, it's bullshit. I'm going to quit worrying about it if I can.

I finally jumped on the Steam bandwagon. They had all 3 Bioshock games on sale for $14.99, and I've been looking for something to play on my new PC.

Do you have a copy of the will in front of you? Are you sure it's the same one she is working from?

Are you sure there was not a revocable (now irrevocable on death) trust in place?

If you are not sure, I would go to the executor / trustee and try to ask for clarification. "Hey, I'm confused about Granddad's estate because I've never been through this before. Can you help me understand how the process works?"

Said another way: Maybe you are getting upset about something because you don't understand it or actually know what you are talking about. i.e. Maybe she's not doing what the will says because you saw an outdated version that was trumped by a newer trust document.

You already identified one situation where your initial aggravation was misplaced (the joint checking account).

I was there with her when we got the will from his safety deposit box at his bank. We saw the same will.

She doesn't know whats going on anyway, asking her how it works would be the blind leading the blind. I'm just going to let it play out however she sees fit. Doesn't look like there is anything that can be done about it anyway besides complain, and that never does any good.

Well, having just experienced my wife's dad passing and the assorted steps we had to take to get things cleaned up, it's nothing I would wish on anyone even when the estate is left in good order.

Good luck to you and your family.

This is one (of many) things that I was thoroughly impressed with about my Grandfather. He knew he was going to go and he got ALL his **** squared away before he passed. There was NEVER any question about what his wishes were or what needed to be done. He Lawyered Up and got a trust put together and included all his assets and specific instructions for distribution. The trust he set up was bombproof... until my aunt guilted my mother (co-executors of his trust) into taking his property out of the trust and putting it in my aunts name. She has no kids, is now on permanent disability and has massive debt and won't stop spending. I'm so glad that QVC is here to help the shut-ins. As a result of her inability to manage her own life, the family will probably loose that property. I'm not sure I can ever forgive her for breaking that trust. She has always manipulated my mother with guilt, and its always made me sick. It's a shitty situation, but I've had to grin and bear it for years. I feel for you Jesse, I really do. It will all work out in the end, give it some time to sort out.

Speaking of sick, I'm home from work today with some sort of seasonal cold/flu that I picked up over the holidays. My supervisor is all grumpy that he has to actually do work today so he went and assigned me like 40 nonsense "tickets" in our "**** to do" queue. Apparently he wants me to VPN in and update them. Somehow I don't see this happening today.

Also, weird **** goes on in my neighborhood between 8 & 5, I had no idea so many of my neighbors were stay at homes or retired. The crazy lady who lives next door has been wandering up and down the block for the last couple hours. I'm trying to figure out if she's actually crazy, or wants to go for a walk and is afraid to leave the block.

Also also, the cat seems upset that I've interrupted her 18hr per day sleeping ritual

so I was quite surprised to find out yesterday morning that someone totally drove through my door to park at the mall while brainy and I went to see the hobbit. I wish I caught it that night because I'm almost positive the white car next to me left the white paint on my door.

angrys.

Tattoo #5 I'm doing for a friend. I wish I could get a little money for my work, but I'm too nice, and don't think highly enough of my work to charge. I've never been very good with ornate scroll like this. Been doodling on it for a few hours this afternoon. More or less done. Hard to see detail through a phone picture.

Happy New Year!!

This past year I ended a 4 year relationship and had my first year into my new career and the rest of my life.

This year I hope to continue to achieve my goals and maybe find someone that promotes them, rather than demotes them.

Wishing everyone a great 2014!

That's awesome dude, on both fronts. I'm a few years older than most of you cats, and recall fondly the time in my life when things started to click. It's funny how as things start popping in one area of your life, it sort of emboldens one to expect the same in other areas as well, including the notion that being "alone" might lead to a happier life. Good on you; carry on.

Try to appreciate the gravity of this, coming from a guy who fearlessly braves forum after forum of some of the weirdest, most gender-confused, basement-dwelling, angsty bullshit you can imagine in order to bring MT the highest-quality pony memes available today as punishment for those who post without images in the random pictures thread. I wade thorough piles and piles of depictions of transsexual cartoon horses having sex with each other in a BDSM environment every day (because I'm just THAT dedicated to making this forum the most hilariously informative repository of deep technical knowledge on the web), and even I think that this is kind of odd. Like "whatever goes on between a man and a woman and their livestock is their own business" odd...
