Any of you gheys get the new S8? Just got an offer for one, direct through Sprint for $200 (8.xx a month). My S4 is nearing its useful life. Battery is starting to take a **** and the OS locks or slows at times. My original plan was to get an older model at a discount but 200 aint bad. What say you lovers of the ****?

Heh, I saw S8 and thought "Audi", and had to double-check which forum I was on.

That was what I assumed would happen having never done this before (showing up with a package with postage already on it). But before I got into the Monday @ 10:30am line, a USPS employee sitting on the floor with a bunch of letters spread out everywhere in front of the PO boxes instructed me outside. Next time, I will go in line now that I know I can request a receipt. Thanks Bruce.

But horray, I got my first tracking text from USPS a few hours ago, at the delivery attempt in texas.

Weird dilemma, for the past 2-3 months now I've noticed a trend on my phone.

I've been getting phone calls from 512-825-XXXX, people trying to call me back. My phone number starts with the same set of digits, different last 4. Is someone spoofing my number to make ghost calls to others? I went through my online billing with tmobile and I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

It just hit me, really, for the first time now.

I actually do not fully understand some of the technical minutiae of what most of the people who work for me do in an average day.

Dear gods in heaven, I have become Lumbergh.

I have a question for you serious electrical folk. What in the world could cause this?
This is a 480v motor turning a gear reducer which drives a wheel for bridge movement on a crane.
When the button is pushed the motor is ramped slowly via a VFD. You can see at slower speeds the motor is actually trying to turn the wrong way, even when the button is lifted and the wheel slows the motor tries to turn the other way. This causes a cogging action. I filmed the other side, which is identical just reversed and it does the same thing. This leads me to believe that the issue is electrical and not the hardware. Is this VFD going out?
I see the strangest problems at work sometimes.

Filmed in communist mode since it's easier to work the buttons and film while 30 feet in the air.

Seems non mechanical to me. Something in the electrical system is reversing the magnetic field in the motor.

The only time I've personally experienced this is when electricians mechanically wired a motor wrong.

Found this in google searching, and it seems logical that it may be the VFD controller going bad:
A VFD creates variable frequency voltages by rectifying the incoming AC voltage to DC then switching the DC on and off, reversing polarity (+ then -) to generate the desired AC frequency and voltage output. Digital control logic determines when each solid-state electronic switch turns on/off. A very basic circuit has six switches, connecting the plus and minus DC voltages to the three phase outputs.

For forward rotation, the A phase voltage switches turn on first, then B phase, then C phase with the proper timing to generate three phase voltages at the desired frequency. (ABC rotation)

When the logic gets a reverse command, it turns on B phase first, then A, then C. (BCA=CAB=ACB rotation).

There is a lot more to VFD controls, logic and switching but the basic idea is the same.

My boss has a new Audi S7

My wife has a new Samsung S8

She likes it. It's an interesting form factor. Long and skinny. She got the keyboard cover/case for it. Now it's like a blackberry.

I can't speak to battery life but consider the + if you need it.

Also you'll need a case.

And Type C USB adapters.

And a bixby button remapper.

But otherwise, flagshippery abounds.

I just shot 10mg of narcan up a dude's nose. (The starting dose is .4)
When he finally regained consciousness, he argued with me about whether or not he took any drugs.
He said he was just really tired, and he was sleeping.

You made me double check, but yes.

Yup, that got a laugh outta me.

I assume this guy is a frequent flier?

EDIT: Also, did you assume this junkie's gender, or did they explicitly express it to you?

Actually it was my first encounter with the uh... is there a gender neutral junkie pronoun?
I'm going to consult my pronoun table and go with Spivak.*
Ey was not outwardly offended, but Spivak may have just been being brave.
Ey actually refused to go to the hospital at first, but I looked Em in the eyes and said "If you do not go to the hospital, the huge dose I just gave you will wear off, and you will die.

Most of my frequent flier junkies die before I get to know them very well.
We keep adding new ones to the roster surprisingly quickly though.
There is one who I suspect is immortal.

I first encountered him before he was addicted to heroin, when he was but a mere alcoholic.
He (confirmed he, unless he has recently become enlightened) had wrecked his moped, and I was riding backwards in the engine responding to the scene.
I couldn't see the scene as we approached, so it was quite a shock when I exited the apparatus to see him lying on the sidewalk and his leg lying in the street.
I fished a tourniquet out of my med bag as I approached.

As I made contact, he slurred "did yous thee my faaaake leg arounth here thomwhere?

Same thing has been happening to me, always from a number with a different set of last 4 digits. I've only gotten to answer one of the calls and the lady said she was calling me back because she missed my call, which I obviously never made. Very odd.

Its either the VFD or the VFD control circuitry IMO. Im assuming 3 phase? The only way to reverse is for the VFD to command it or by physically swapping 2 legs. And im sure the latter isn't the case.

This is what i'm thinking. Never seen a VFD fail in this way before.

I could have sworn there was a home improvement thread by Y8s. Oh well.

I have a commerical office. The attic is vented. You can see into the attic from the outside on ground level exposing the HVAC tubing. I want to install some flush mounted power outlets on the ceiling for ceiling mounted TVs. I'll have 3 TVs on the ceiling daisy chaining 1 outlet to the next. The attic is not really accessible bc it's filled to the brim with HVAC tubing.

1) Do I need metal junction boxes?
2) Can the romex just be slung over from jxn box to jxn box over the joists?
3) Do I need GFCI?
4) Am I going to burn down my office?

Thanks

I don't understand "exposed attic".
