Is 91% isopropyl alcohol good enough to clean electronic boards or do I need the 99.9% stuff?

It's fine. The rest is just water, and we use water to wash circuit boards.

At this point I am mostly just checking this site looking for TSE kit updates or Jackson/ Rotrex updates.

Not as in axles breaking under weight, but a hard right hand corner blowing out a tie rod because of 350+ pounds of ballast in the front left.

Early NA - 2600 GVWR with a 2100-2200 curb weight? Wonder how much of the population can overload a miata by themselves.

Does this mean I can legitimately run a "no fat chicks" sticker on my car, as I am legally not allowed to carry such weight?

I am reading a book on the design of the Miata and the Project Leader openly admitted that the Miata was not for "big people" and the passenger compartment was just big enough for the average person at the time. When asked about it, he said if a "big" person wants to drive the car that bad, they'll find a way.

Anyone ever use one of these cheap Ebay ESR meters for testing caps with success? Is it worth the $15 or will I end up trashing it Techsalvager style?

hey guys, as for I am only 25 going on 26, I am still learning stuff, and I came across an old article while reading up on boosted engines and was wondering something--

Do people still use toluene as a additive in fuels?

Why, were you actually thinking of using it?

I hope not, that shit's nasty.

Enginerd 03-14-2015 05:48 PM

Strange you asked about that. I used it a few years back on a one time project, but for the life of me I cannot remember why. It was not for a fuel additive, but I vaguely remember that is was for cleaning something abnormal. I disposed of it after that project.

Too expensive, too thin, and too high of a vapor point. It also eats rubber, much like alcohol.

Other than that, I'd bet they still use a little bit in those octane booster things for sale at gas stations.

The only time I'd try is if I had a nearly full tank of knocking gas, and I didn't want to drain the tank or have room to dilute it.

Pen2_the_penguin 03-14-2015 06:12 PM

it was an old article on turbocharged BMW K bikes (i mean, ooooold) and I thought the same thing "wont that just eat shit up and ruin seals?"

deezums 03-14-2015 06:44 PM

That's mostly the only time I've ever heard it too, German cars (and bikes, well I've never heard that last one but it makes sense)

They get better fuel in Europe, right? It would make our crummy American fuel more like the good stuff.

Didn't F1 used to run straight toluene, too?

I think that was back when they were (turbo'd) 1000+ hp and big rear tires?

So today i tried the oculus rift dk2.. i felt dizzy on the roller coaster. You know that feeling you get when you're riding in a car and you're watching something on a monitor while sitting sideways on a twisty road? Yeah i felt like that however that could have been because i only got 4-5 hours of sleep.

It probably wasn't set properly for you. Interpupillary distance is pretty critical to avoid eyestrain and motion sickness. If you have too much of a mismatch between focal distance and convergence angle, it fux yo chit up.

Anyone use pomade here?

Looking to try some water-based. I've narrowed it down to the three obvious choices:

Roughly in that order. I'll probably pick up some Layrite to try first.
