Thank you for the 19°F morning, but we did not order it here in Dixie.

Seriously! It was all the way down to 57*F this morning! But it made it up to 79 this afternoon.

Tomorrow's low should be starting around 63 in the morning so I'll see about getting the car reassembled. But Monk's house sure is pretty up there in Indy.

Monk 12-16-2016 03:26 PM

Meanwhile in Indiana, we don't know what the fuck is going on.

So it's either die in 40 minutes cold or die in 10 minutes cold this week? I'm going to think about it while I cut the grass tomorrow.

Don't worry, I'll wear sunscreen, lol. You guys are nuts.

Monk 12-16-2016 05:11 PM

Pretty much, although 40° is approaching sweater weather.
If you are prepared for it, winter can actually be enjoyable.
Bourbon in front of an open fire on a cold day is bliss.

When i was on the roof today, in 6F weather, with a negative something windchill fixing the heat. I sure wished i was the old bag inside complaining about it being 65F.

Hovering around 20 right now. Perfect time to hit the hot tub.

We have a weather station doodad by my desk, displaying indoor and outdoor temps among other things.
My wife has to look at it in the morning to help her decide what to wear for the day.
So, I took the outdoor sensor inside one night and put it in the deep freezer.
Damn thing transmits from inside the freezer.. I was surprised.
Anyway, she woke me up the next morning with a deeply concerned voice.
Apparently it was -22C outside.
I laughed.
She was pissed.

So I took my wife out to brunch this morning and some dude at the table across the aisle for me in the restaurant straight up died. Just like flipped a switch. No noise, no drama, just click! There was an off-duty firefighter guy there who jumped in and started doing vitals, response, etc so I just stayed out of the way.

Pretty weird way to start ones day.

Sooo, I have some dental plaster, 2 part PU in containers, and short sections of 3" ID diameter steel pipe.

Which means I am about to start prototyping a set of engine mounts for my car.
I have been reading up and learning a ton on modulus, yield, compressive deformation, deflection and so on.

The goal is to come up with a progressive system where vibrations are damped but torque leaning is eliminated.
Kinda like best of both worlds.
I have a couple of different ideas to accomplish that.

It's pretty funny that companies building and selling motor mounts are just buying off the shelf bushings from places like Energy Suspension and just welding up brackets for them.
And then, they tell the customer to drive for 500 miles to break-in POLYURETHANE!

In other words, they make you crush a thin layer of 70A shore PU and create a slop where vibrations are no longer noticeable.
230 - 280 bucks for that?

I want a late model 6. You should do it. Get an optioned out model.

turbofan 12-17-2016 10:23 PM

The 2016 is a TON better. but other than that, the 2014 was a good car.

2016 brought a bunch more sound deadening, a much nicer interior, better options, and Mazda Connect. That old system SUCKS.

We've an opportunity to get a deal on my sister in laws. So this is a take it or leave it situation

The ct200h is simply too small for us for long trips. Need a real trunk

So, how much are they?
And, how many sisters?

18psi 12-18-2016 12:45 AM

lol 4 sisters.

..."more than you can afford pal"

But yeah: my wife's younger sister wants to get a giant 2017 nissan pathfinder. she's single and small/petite, and I can't wrap my head around why in the world she would want a giant SUV.
The mazda 6 is roomy, huge trunk, overall I like it. Just never owned a non-miata mazda before.

Many little people like larger vehicles

I've had a 2016 six for about 2 months, my brother has had a 2014 for 3 years. His has 76,xxx mikes on it and the only non-maintenance item has been a broken windshield(truck tire casing). He still loves it, gets consistent 30+ mpg. I'm getting 28+ on my highway-free commute.

I like mine a lot so far, quiet enough and comfy but handles well enough to make some startling average speeds. I replaced an 05 TSX, which was a terrific car - I think the handling is comparable, maybe better once I'm used to the greater size of the 6. The steering feel is better than any other electric-assist car I've driven, but I was spoiled by the Acura's.

Anyone one here drive the Mazda3 s with the 2.5L ~185hp engine? Is it worth it compared to the 2.0L 155hp?
