Also, my parents caught one of the cats drinking out of the toilet.

They would prefer for kitty to become dehydrated and suffer kidney damage?

No, they thought it was funny. We've got a few placed around the house for them to drink water, but despite that the one always likes to try to drink from the toilet (flushed) or jump on the bathroom counter and drink from the faucet. He also likes to knock things off the counter or whatever table he decides to jump on, he likes contact solution bottles.

Congrats, that stuff (paying off debt) is important. A former coworker (as of this coming Sunday) is filing bankruptcy for all the money she owes and acts like it's cool. She still spends on crap she doesn't need for herself and her gf, eating out all the time (no pun intended).

In other news on my way home from going out to get more plasti-dip and a replacement socket wrench, I was staring at the back of F-250 salt truck in the lane to the right of mine, and bam! A smaller car (driven by a chick of course) slammed into the back of it. About 30 seconds before that I had decided to take a left instead of going straight, had I went straight I would have been behind that truck and the chick would have ran into me instead.

I wonder what happened to that salt/brine dispenser thing on the back of the truck...

My boss just told me that political brass just decided that all my work is going to Baton Rouge and to box my stuff up and take everything I own to Baton Rouge or take it home. no relocation expense and I am 3 months into a 13-month lease. :noes:

FRT_Fun 02-01-2012 11:26 AM

I'd take it home.

Yep, it's not even a permanent position. I'm a little fucked right now. I have a degree in community planning that's given me a career in project management and it's no newsflash that the private sector doesn't want me. The best offer I received in my last job hunt was $14/hr working a call center. I could go back to bartending and school during the day but I don't really want to do that at 31 years of age.

How long does it take to get a solid footing in the world of database work that will get me into ~$40k per year?

FRT_Fun 02-01-2012 11:33 AM

You can come live with me in San Angelo and I can be your sugar daddy.

What do you mean database work? Getting $40k a year in IT is not to terribly hard.

You could always go live with SamNavy.

It seems that database administration is the future, I can make money in it, and it will be challenging. The problem is I know nothing and what I know is self-taught through using google for SQL and MS Visual Studio with an MS Access front-end.

On a lighter note, my GF just informed me that she scored Daniel Tosh tickets for April, like a bauce!!!

I set up a Sharepoint form through access bullshit for data entry for my DB. Maybe that's the way to go.

The biggest thing will be getting experience. I do not know how much database work you currently do at your job. Also I don't know how the market for database admins is in your area. I know where I am at, generally working with databases is something that you do on top of other system admin jobs.

Have you ever used MySQL Workbench? I would suggest downloading it and learning it. It can definitely make getting used to MySQL a bit easier.

Access generally is not used in big environments. So I would probably not focus to to much on it.

For reference I personally despise database work. It is just not my cup of tea.

EDIT: Sharepoint is definitely something worth learning. It is growing in the market place and is relatively easy to get into.

Trey's cowboy boots and guns might not go over to well in that environment.

I was actually just talking to him about SP. I bet if Trey gets a clearance neogenesis2004 could prob hook him up with a sweet gig in the middle east.
