You know, that's kind of tempting...

I need to find something like that in a silk (or silk-rayon blend) with a nice, muted floral print.

Joe do you want your shirts to look similar to the one in that picture? If so then you either need to move to Hawaii or join a third wave ska band. Otherwise silk floral print shirts are never in fashion.

I've got a long sleeve light denim pearl-snap carhartt that some urban folk think is hideous.

Oddly, I don't believe that a Polo and skinny jeans is the appropriate dress for many occassions either.

Mock if you will, but silk shirts are the epitome of comfort -and- style.

I will.

Silk shirts were a terrible choice when they were a dime a dozen back in 1990.

Unless you're a woman. Then, yes.

The only place silk has on your torso is around your neck or in your jacket breast pocket.

Out of curiosity, what is your source or authority on style?

On the subject of silk shirts? Italy.

On the subject of floral prints? This guy:

Might as well face it, you're addicted to spuds.

like my first cassette tape ever was Michael Jackson Bad. But to this day, I know the lyrics to Fat, and like a few lines of Bad.

You are officially not allowed to have any creative input on the startup.

On an unrelated note, I have been doing some graphing of price depreciation on vehicles relative to their MSRP when new.

A) It's horrifying.
B) It's surprisingly consistent across a wide range of vehicles.

Scrappy: can you explain MINI resale values in light of their quality ratings?

No; I was only comparing vehicles I might have an interest in. I am far too debonair to drive any Mini made by BMW.

Only an original body style would suffice, and primarily only if I was using it in a historic race, road rally, or a heist of some sort.

P.S. Can I get a little "like a sir" meme stickman smiley?

  1. because German
  2. because "cute"
  3. because BMW
  4. because women?

Seriously, I don't mean to be a dick or nothing, but I know 4 women through work and mutual friends that absolutely LOVE the damn things. They don't care what they cost to purchase or maintain, they just want to have a Mini. I've had 2 of them try to convince me to ditch the Miata because "the Mini is so much better!"

Ignoring the crap that doesn't work anymore, Meg's '03 MCS is pretty awesome to daily. I give 2 shits about what I look like driving an electric blue cooper to work. The thing is so fun to drive even on all seasons.

I'm not saying its a bad car at all, I'm just not the type that is going to pay that kind of premium for one. Check left coast prices and watch your head spin.

Year        Avg        STDEV

2012        -17.13%        9.75%
2011        -22.51%        6.76%
2010        -31.08%        8.25%
2009        -37.21%        6.99%
2008        -46.22%        3.06%
2007        -63.70%        7.71%
2006        -65.81%        2.77%
2005        -69.57%        4.16%
2004        -73.50%        5.57%
2003        -72.44%        5.85%

Disclaimer: This is a statistically non-robust data set of vehicles, certain years are missing data because a particular model was not made that year and the vehicles are all "premium" brands (Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Cadillac).

Don't try and extrapolate that to the pricing of Honda Accords or Toyota Tacomas. Also, those are based on generic KBB pricing and may or may not reflect actual market values.

Still, I plotted all of the individual values and they were pretty consistent. It looks like buying a 6-year old used car is a relative sweet spot for premium performance sedans.

One thing to keep in mind is that several of the vehicles in question underwent significant model changes in 2008 or 2009 so that might also be skewing the results a bit.

<-- Wishes he had done this data analysis before letting his wife talk him into buying the 2009 M3 over the 2006
