upside is when we are in idiocracy times, they will come to this forum and say the same about our prosaic speeches of verse.

I prefer to believe that what we have sacrificed in eloquence, we have gained in efficiency and precision.

Consider the MIPS R2000, with its RISC architecture; did its performance-per-watt not vastly exceed that of the might 360, despite the latter's rich and complex microcode-based instruction set?

until you sack up and demand both

It's like he was clapping without using hands.

Speaking of clapping without hands... and eloquence.

Can elegance not be defined as that which is streamlined in implementation and purposeful in form?

A Honda Civic which is laden with chrome and neon is not beautiful, and yet an Ariel Atom which has been stripped down to the barest mechanical essentials is. Doth not the same heart beat within both vehicles? And yet, so different be they.

Ah, it would be unfair to compare two machines that serve two different functions, even though some components may be shared. The Civic is an economic people mover while the Atom is a smile machine. I do agree that just because it is an economic people mover does not mean it needs to be ugly.

While function is indeed the most critical component, there is rarely a need to sacrifice beauty for function. I know that in some cases form is merely a product of function. These happy incidents usually get remembered.

Am I supposed to recycle old mattresses and box springs, or just toss them in a dumpster?

rleete 01-16-2014 04:24 PM

Most mattress places take them for recycling. You may have to pay a fee if you don't get a new one from them.

Guardiola 01-16-2014 04:35 PM

Salvation Army will usually come and pick them up from your house for free.
I think they clean them and give them to homeless shelters.

You live in Texas, just burn it

Joe Perez 01-16-2014 05:13 PM

Overheard in the newsroom earlier:
"I am literally going to have to pull that script out of my ass."
I am figuratively going to kill the next person I hear using "literally" to describe figurative actions.

I am literally going to type a response to your aggravation as a poke of fun, because I am literally bored at work.

Most recommend putting it in a dumpster, then burning it.

Low rent apartment complexes are usually best.

what's that rumor / urban legend about mattresses gaining like 50% of their weight in dead skin and various buggers over the life of their use?

source = no

Joe Perez 01-16-2014 09:25 PM

Reason # 432 why I sleep on a cheap inflatable air mattress from WalMart, and replace it about once a year.

I'm about to do this myself. I slept on one for probably 4 or 5 years when I was in high school, and loved it. My current mattress and box spring is old and saggy in the middle. I'm beginning to think it is to blame for me not sleeping well lately. Throw that shit out, and bring in the new air mattress!

For too much nasty info, I'm pretty sure my mattress has easily gained 50% of its original weight in the last 10 or so years. For several years thanks to my kidney issues, I had severe night sweats at least once a week. For a while I didn't have a cover over the mattress, but I finally figured I needed to get something vinyl to seal it up before I rotted the fabric out with my delicious sweat. In that time, the mattress got pretty funky and nasty. I tried to clean it up a bit with steam, and it helped a little, but it's still much heavier than it was new. I was sweating so much that it was like someone was pranking me in the night by pouring a quart of water over me from head to toe. I was damn near dripping wet when I would crawl out of bed in the night to use the bathroom.

I now understand why you are so aggravated all the time.

I would be too.
