No shit Sherlock. The "normal" tablet prices are outrageous, you can get a perfectly decent laptop for the price of an iPad2.

Joe Perez 08-23-2011 12:53 PM

Guess it depends on what you mean by "perfectly decent". At $499, you're going to either get something with a netbook-class processor or something which is so large and heavy that it doesn't really count as portable.

The tablets have their place in the world. Frankly, I'd pay retail for an iPad (or any of the droids) if the applications I wanted to run on it existed, or if XP could be run natively on it. Until then, I'll keep chugging along with my 10 year old Fujitsu.

I ordered 2 32gb's around 6am on the 21st through best buy and hp small and medium biz. 2 for still less than original price of one.

This. My main squeeze is a old, old IBM thinkpad that is chassis modded and runs XP. It's a beast. I don't really see a reason to ever get rid of it.

However, TunerStudio on a tablet would be fanastic. I might actually pay money to have that option.

To everyone who picked up a Touchpad...congratulations, I hate you.

That would be the killer app for me.

A TFTP server would be nice, as would a couple of apps we use at work which are XP-specific, but I'd buy a droid tablet just to run TS if it were available.

All the inventory that got sent back to HP will be available shortly

Jeff_Ciesielski 08-24-2011 11:09 AM

Ubuntu runs on these tablets, though unfortunately it's an ARM build, therefore no java = no TS. (and it looks slow as balls)

There is an android port in the works:touchdroid which will hopefully materialize soon.

I'll definitely be getting one of these bad boys.

FRT_Fun 08-24-2011 12:37 PM

If I can score one for $99 I'll be grabbing one.

Vashthestampede 08-24-2011 12:40 PM

I'll still try and pick up 2 of these. One for me and one to resell.

Free HP touchpads are better than $99 ones.

You can thank the people that ordered two or more for that. I know I did. :vash:

Thread revival: Anybody actually get one from hp? I got an email a few days ago saying they had to make more so it would be 6-8 weeks:facepalm:

twistytime 09-11-2011 08:40 PM

yep same 6-8 window garbage for my 32gb.... i ordered from smb 8/21 @ 630am, but my 32gb that i ordered from best buy came, and for the price you cant beat the capability and form factor for the price

Vashthestampede 10-28-2011 07:21 PM

Update.

Just got this email from HP.

Dear Valued Customer,

Making sure customers have a positive experience when they purchase our products is a priority for us. In some cases, limited inventory makes it challenging to fulfill all customer orders. As you signed up for updates on the HP TouchPad, we wanted you to know that we are officially out of stock. Some retailers will have some stock available, but our online inventory is depleted.

Thank you for your interest in this product and the feedback you provided. Your input plays a critical role in defining our product roadmap and will help us continue to bring innovative products to market.

Sincerely,
HP

Don't quote me on this, but I think they were so overwhelmed with orders that they had more "bought" than they actually had in stock.

They have a special notice on their site for business account members that placed and order in the past 2 days. Probably to explain the situation. For regular customers you'll probably get a refund or the guaranteed price when they get more in stock.

If I can go back in time I would have bought 10 and kept the last one for myself. :)

Couldn't resist the quote :giggle:

My Touchpad was delivered on Oct 18th.

MiataKenji 11-03-2011 04:37 PM

Is this promotion still active? Where can I buy one now?

18psi 11-03-2011 06:04 PM

YES IT IS!!!

After 3 months its still going:facepalm:
