3rd gear synchro is dieing. I can't complalin though...the car had 149k miles on it, and I've done 18 track days this year. That's 30+ hours of track time on a 17 year old car.

it only acts up on highspeed 4-3 downshifts. It drives fine otherwise, and I'm not pulling it until the swap.

4th to 3rd downshifts were always the worst for me, thought the synchro was shot but when i did a trans fluid change the problem went away. about 300,000 miles on my trans

You get your synchromesh from the dealer?

can that stuff take the heat? I ran Mobile1 because I thought it would help in the 100* heat. It shifted fine with M1.

my frinend got it for me, i think he got it at a crown dealership, employee discount

i have never had a problem due to heat...you would be a much better judge of the syncromesh since you track so much, give it a shot and let everyone know, im very happy with it

I'd hardly call an aging synchro a "broken part" but congratulations I guess

Synchromesh - Tranny rebuild in a bottle.

Ok not, but it sure seems like it.

Maybe you should think about an upgraded transmission, the stock one might not be strong enough for track duty. Please start a bunch of threads about a TII swap.

I'm going to swap in a powerglide.

That should hold up a while Don't forget to swap in a millitary axle or a little 9" ford behind it.

I don't get it? all the s2000 (and other honduh-kiddies) uses synchromesh FM. i just tossed in 1.5 qts 2 wks ago and my 1-2 notchiness (in the honduh) went away.

while i wouldn't bother w/ $12/qt fluid for the miata, is the S-FM a known no-no for the miata tranny? mobil1 is a lot cheaper but i never liked the feel in the miata's box.
