Thats because m.neters are tarded.

(I hope they read this.. Losers.)

All I know is if I had a 1.6 car I'd abuse it even more than I do the 1.8, cause I know of at least 10 motors around that I could pickup for next to nothing...

exactly, one of the great things about the miata is cheap parts, blow a motor, nothin major for a 1.6 $500 max and you're bouncing of the rev limit all over again.

really my ka must be old and tired then, that motor in stock form seems to die at like 5000rpm. sure has nice daily driving at cruising grunt though, almost feels like 6 cylinder till you get to 4k

Sam...I'm with ya on this.

It's not that the engine can't take the abuse, to me, it just seems un-natural in the upper rev ranges. It vibrates like a Hello Kitty ***** and the sounds isn't very comforting.

My hundah b16 engine with Jun cams made power to 9k and it was pure music when vtec kicked in at 7100rpms. With the miata motors, it the equivalent to a drunk choir trying to sing in accapella. Not very harmonious.

Sadly I have to disagree with you here.. I've yet to ever in my life hear a honda engine that wasn't in an NSX, Formula 1 car, or my lawnmower that didn't (to me) sound like complete and total ******* garbage at ANY rpm. Maybe the grunt from the intake is an okay sound, but there seems no possible way to get rid of that humming buzzing drone that comes from the exhaust that makes me want to end myself. Thats just my opinion, though.

Hey, thats your opinion indeed.

Keep in mind also that most of the B-series vtec motors were MADE to rev with almost ideal rod/stroke ratios. The miatas motors (designed for turbo applications) doesn't even have a number remotely close to ideal, and quite frankly, it screams and vibrates in pain at substained high revs.

Lack of balance shafts could have something to do with the buzziness of the miata motor no?

lol. Very true. What is their ratio, right about 1:1?

Wow. I eat my words, that actually didn't sound like a donky being assraped!! Guess thats cause you have a real exhaust??

Actually now that I think about it, a local high power turbo guys honda doesn't sound too terrible..

I've heard 1.6s buzz really badly, but I've never noticed a 1.8 buzz??

It's good to redline it every once in a while. Breaks up the carbon build up. I think I hit the rev-limiter more now that I'm turbo, it revs so fast it catches me of guard.

Don't be a wuss, rev that sh*t out.

i hit rev limiter for like 20 seconds to half a minute sometimes... in both my miata and 350z except that rev limiter on 2nd gear on 350z is pretty scary thing...

I love the way the engine sounds as it revs higher with the turbo spinning faster. I can still enjoy a drive with no music, just the engine making noise. The week I put in my turbo all i did was listen for the spool....and anything breaking.

Learn to ******* shift. Bouncing off the limiter for 20s is retarded.

I missed a shift in my Talon once. Logger showed 10,5xx RPMs. Didn't do any damage (that I ever knew about). We used to raise our rev limit to 8500 without any internal engine mods.

Anyone ever break a Miata simply from revving too high? What broke first?

EDIT: When I say "missed a shift" I mean I downshifted where I wanted to upshift.

I think that na Miatas sound scary when you rev 2 red. But turbo Miatas sound so much better. Im pretty sure I do it every day.

1-2-3-2 eh? Hate it when that happens. Crappy sloppy cable shifters :(
