Some people say that the suspension could be better, but really, how many of us can ride near or at the limit of the suspension? I am sure that some people can, but I am not one of them. On the 1000, the suspension is fully adjustable, on the 650 it's not (so I can understand that criticism.)
It's predecessor the TL1000S had a bad reputation for setting up tank-slappers, but I think that was more bad riding getting punished than an inherent flaw in the bike. Some riders saw it, others didn't. Sorta tells me it's the rider and not the ride. The TL did not have a dampener originally either, but neither did my VF1000F, which had some head shake when provoked.

I think alot of it is how much you raise the wheel off the ground, speed, and the condition of the roads. Suzuki always has nice dampeners. And if they wear out you can get another one cheap on ebay.
My 05 zx10r I had should not of been sold without one. I used to be extremly crazy spliting cars at 175mph on 635. Our group was always the one you would see on the news out running cops and etc etc. I went through back tires about every 3400 miles. Which was about 2 months or less. Back on subject. I was scared of that bike. Not of the power, but of head shake. Everytime you hit a gear the front wheel was in the air or skiming the ground. Sometimes when you hit 5th it would get head shake. I bought a GPR and put on it. That bike was lethal then. It would peg 189 fast. Shame I barely used the GPR before i sold the bike.
I sold it and bought a blinged out project zx9r. I was tired of new bike ins. and payments. Now that I am almost finished, I found out they don't have a GPR bracket for the Zx9r anymore. I quess I'll sell it or watch ebay.
I like the look of the SV1000's. I heard they are fast too. What like 10 sec. ish in the 1/4 mile. That is respectable in my book.

Now as far as Insurance goes? Bang, $363 a year with a $250 deductible. So, what it lacks in flat out power, it makes up with an insurance cost that can't be touched. As far as hanging with the 600's, going down 1 tooth on the front sprocket has helped acceleration significantly. It's pretty sick, even if the 600's are a little faster through the 1/4 mile.
The '06 SV is rated by Sport Rider as being an 11.20@121 and the '06 GIXXER 600 runs it in 10.60@132. 0-60, it's all about the SV though.

SVs are track dogs though!
Believe me Mark, Sprockets and 520 chain made a HUGE difference with my Ninja. Dynoed 98rwhp, went -1/+2 from 530 to 520 chain, TiPro jet kit, filter, and its side by side with a stock 2005 600RR... It won't hang with one top speed or around corners, but I got pretty good at tossing around a 420# dry weight bike.
First three months I owned it averaged about 60mpg. Now, its closer to 20 with mods and the way I ride it.
