I have aquired a "Kona Blue" 2011 Mustang GT. Its the base model GT with the option 3.73 gears (first gear is borderline retarded for this power level)

Couple of little snapshots:

Attachment 194576

Attachment 194577

The light is just starting to get good (around here the light is terrible for 80% of the year), so hopefully Ill be able to take some nicer photographs soon.
Since the car is a dark color Im going to try to find some places that have a lot of light colored concrete, which should make for nice images. Definitely time to use the polarizer too.

But anyway, the suspension and steering feel is pretty good. It corners flat and feels fairly neutral, although I havent pushed it yet.
The power is phenomenal, especially with the 3.73 gears. I fell that the gearing is going to work out well for autocrossing/track days, there is a gear for every occasion.
Besides that, its comfortable, quite while cruising around town, stereo sounds good, AC works well, etc. so all in all Im very happy.

do want

curly 09-05-2010 12:57 PM

Which is louder, the V8, or the power steering?

Does anyone else think that the new mustangs look almost... Japanese? The diffuser, the size, to me it looks pretty darn japanish. I think that's a good thing.

It's modern Fords in general (most are on Mazda/Ford/Volvo developed platforms vs pure Ford).

Nice looking car, my bro's father in law has a red '10 vert (v6:loser:), the same style.

curly 09-05-2010 02:41 PM

When looking around at Mazdas for my GF, we asked the salesman WTF is up with the Tribute, when they have the CX-7 and CX-9. He said it's based on the Escape, and Mazda is looking to get the fuck away from anything Ford. I dunno if anyone noticed, but the B2200 trucks no longer exist. That's my worthless comment of the day.

Braineack 09-05-2010 03:05 PM

I'd drive it, if it came with snow tires...

Congrats, I had to buy a 2010 after my son was born, but I wish I could have waited! I love driving mine on the highway, but pretty much hate driving it around tight corners... Unfortunately, mine's also neutered, since my wife doesn't know how to drive a manual.

Faeflora 09-05-2010 03:38 PM

How is the new engine? Is it the shiznet? I am curious how it compares to LS um LS3? Shit, whichever one the 400hp one is.

jtothawhat 09-05-2010 03:42 PM

The new GT's are bad ass, with bolt on's they can go 11's in the quarter..do want, congrats

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-05-2010 05:36 PM

Id have to say the new 5.0 is really spectacular. It has plenty of grunt down low to the point that you can easily overtake in 5th, but the thing really pulls hard through the upper RPMs, Ive gotten on the limiter several times already.
Theres something cool about hearing a crossplane V8 rev to 7, haha.

It truly is a modern engine; DOHC, VVT on both the intake and exhaust cams, 11.0:1 compression, 4v per cylinder, all aluminum. nearly square bore/stroke ratio, and a 1.62 rod ratio (better than the BP!)

I may go do a baseline dyno run sometime soon, it depends on how soon Im going to start with bolt-ons

Stealth97 09-05-2010 05:49 PM

I think the new mustang is an awesome ride. this one is very cool.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-05-2010 05:53 PM

Thanks for the kind words guys, I was expecting more jokes about mullets and cousin fucking... oh wait, thats the camaro
^_^

Stein 09-05-2010 07:10 PM

Very nice. They are running 10's with very little suspension work and spray and a tune, 12's are easy with just drag radials.

Whats crazy is that its probably a single nozzle nitrous setup.

I forgot my telephoto when I (attempted to) find places to photograph my car, but a little photoshop does the effect well enough for posting on a lowly forum.
Ill take some nice straight photos soon, I just need to find some locations. I dont usually photograph cars...

It takes a lot more than that to get a Miata into the 10s :( I will have to watch out for these. :|

I like the way the flush mounted side louvers look

No replacement for displacement........ NTM a chassis that is actually designed to go fast in a straight line.

The Coyote engine is very cool. DI is just around the corner. IIRC, it already has the casting for it, but it wasn't needed to meet emmisions/desired power levels yet.

What I'm trying to say is...... Nice car :bigtu:

Im looking forward to seeing what these things do with boost, a few people have already started working on turbo setups and there are a few supercherged setups going into production.

550hp on 6 psi, mwahahaha

chpmnsws6 09-06-2010 11:57 PM

If you drop a decent set of rods and pistons in it, I'm sure that thing would get REAL rowdy at 15-16psi.

14.7= x2 atmospheric pressure, so that 5.0 just became a 10.0 with the pumping losses of the 5.0. NTM the heads flow REALLY well out of the box, and from what I've heard locally, port work wakes them up even more.

These guys are real close to us, and if you've ever opened a hotrod mustang mag, you've seen Ricks articles plastered all over it.

Still about $3K worth of work not including the DRs/wheels/seat - From the mods list on the vid you posted. Impressive nonetheless. 100 shot is pretty small for a v8. Figure only 12.5 hp per cylinder. It helps that Mustang parts in general are dirt cheap.:

+1 on the cool coyote engine and your new mustang. I have a cylinder head sitting here at my desk, there's a flat, round boss in the combustion chamber for what I assume is future DI but it's in between the exhaust valves and I don't see how they'll fit an injector in there above the combustion chamber, the valve springs and cam shafts are in the way. :dunno:

I've designed a finger follower for this thing but no orders yet :sad2:

I feel real bad for the guys who bought this new mustang with the 4.6 (or for that matter the old V6). haha. sucks to be them.

buffon01 09-07-2010 09:28 AM

I'd hit that

rharris19 09-07-2010 09:57 AM

Fastlane is right behind my buddies shop and they have come out with some pretty cool stuff in the past. Turbo SRT8 Jeeps, Twin Turbo Ford GT, and a host of old big blocks putting down serious power.

webby459 09-07-2010 10:25 AM

ftb, nice ride. How much autocrossing are you gonna do with it, and are you going to stay stock class for now? R-comps? I think it'd be a fun autocrosser, I'm curious how it'll do. We have a few good stock class pony cars up here in NEDiv, and they look like a lot of fun.

Id like to run it in some showroom stock classes. Righjt now I cant afford to buy a set of wheels so Im probably just gonna go run it on street tires just for fun.
The Cortvette club meets just south of here and I could go run with them (less hassle than the SCCA), hopefully put the hurtin on some vettes. L:ast time I ran there with my miata (before it was turbo) I was nipping at the heels at a few of them and I was on shit tires, haha.
But yah, I think itll do well, the sways are pretty beefy (although with R comps itll probably start getting some roll) and the springs/shocks are pretty good, not squishy like stangs of the past.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-07-2010 10:51 AM

Speaking of autocrossing, this guy can really boogie in his GT:

webby459 09-07-2010 11:16 AM

Lol, Sam is one of the guys I was referring to before. He's top dog in FS, we've got a couple other guys in New York that are pretty fast but not as fast as Sam. He was in a Shelby a couple months ago when I last saw him, it looks like the 5.0 vid is very new.

I'm very agree, modern lines of the 67 Shelby fastback. I'll install the rear quarter louvers, instead the windows :) The only thing I don't like is that big chrome number in the FWD fender sides. Will be more elegant without them.
Glad to see the brake calipers in the right position.

Congrats for a really nice car.
Ben.

Sam Strano is real well known in the fbody community. He is the go to guy for suspension for the drivers who want their fbodys to handle. Hes won a bunch of SCCA championships in his Z28. Id like to see what he does with the new mustang.

Nice machine though. 5.0 badges are gay huge on them though. Wait till you join some mustang forums. You will become a total douche nozzle within a week or want to sell your 5.0 because of them... oh, and your new 5.0, its actually worth $100,000, because all 5.0's are over priced and only go up in value. :p

I havent tried flat-shifting it yet, I suspect traction will become a real issue, lol

I've actually had my 2010 Mustang GT for a year and have yet to register for a Mustang forum. I'm not fond of most Mustang owners, nor am I very fond of the car. It's much better than previous generations of Mustang, but it's just not very communicative. However, Full_Tilts car likely has much more forward thrust than mine. :) On the bright side, there are far worse cars to use as a family car to haul around a wife and 16 month old son, but I do wish the deal I was working on for a 2006 Evo hadn't fallen through. That would have made a SWEET family car!
